Cool. Thanks for the info. It'll be nice to have an action game on the DS.
In Castlevania III on NES, you can play as Sypha Belnades, a companion character to Trevor Belmont but
I don't recall any female being the main protagonist in the series either. |

Sonia Belmont (whom I posted pics of in the hot game girls thread, by the way) was the protagonist of Castlevania Legends for the old Game Boy. Which is to say the OG Game Boy, before we had the DS, the Game Boy Advance, the Game Boy Colour, or the Game Boy Pocket. Igarashi (the current director of the Castlevania series) wrote her out of the Castlevania canon in a fit of douchebaggery, inspired both by the fact that he decided he wanted Leon Belmont to be the progenitor Belmont instead of Sonia Belmont (up until then, Sonia was believed to be the first of the line) and that he didn't think it was appropriate for the game to have a female protagonist (which was influenced by the fact that the game was set in the 1400s, but still).
Sonia Belmont was also going to make a second appearance in Castlevania Resurrection for the Dreamcast, but that turned into Canceledvania and then, well, Igarashi got his douchebaggery on.
Even after Igarashi's hatchet job on the Castlevania canon, Sonia was going to be the lead of the Castlevania movie. Hell, she had an actress listed on IMDB and everything, though that may have been speculation instead of something confirmed. But then someone got ahold of that and wrote her out and put Simon in. Oi.
So yeah, I'll be glad to see another female protagonist, but this is Igarashi we're talking about. Sure, he stumbled upon a winning gameplay formula (seriously, the Castleroid/Metroidvania games could just get a new rehash every 6-12 months and I would keep buying them), but I get a creeping suspicion he is going to take this and screw it up royally. |
