So, after watching The Office premiere, Parks & Rec premiere, new episodes of Glee, new episodes of Heroes, and Modern Family I'm noticing that there are significantly more gay themes and characters in TV shows this season compared to previous seasons. Granted, none of the shows focused specifically on those issues, they were more or less just written in as one portion of the story.

These things make me happy. I felt like these shows all dealt with these issues in a much different way then we have in previous years. Before, if an episode of a TV show was going to focus on gay issues, the ENTIRE episode would focus on them. It feels like they are just weaving these things in as normal occurrences in every day life...they shouldn't be treated as anything special or different, they just are.

I'm honestly quite proud at the TV shows taking this route towards addressing these things. I feel that it's most definitely needed especially with LGBT rights becoming a much bigger issue in these current times. It makes me so happy to see that representation in so many different shows and especially to see that representation in premiere episodes.

Has anyone else noticed this?  It seems like it's just about everywhere.  Even last night I caught the very tail end of Trauma and noticed even that show had a gay character in it.  It's nice to finally see a good number of basic cable TV shows have gay characters and story lines that aren't the stereotypical ones we've seen in the past (what up Will & Grace?).  It's definitely refreshing and nice to feel like a large part of who I am is now part of mainstream TV.

I have been noticing more and more gay characters and themes on tv lately. I think it's awesome.

and kudos to Glee, my favorite new show this season.

I haven't watched the last episode yet, haha, but it seems like almost every new show this series as an LGBT character in it.

Even Trauma has a gay character.  It just makes me happy to see it being so widespread and not the stereotypical or cliche characters we used to see (which more often then not were the typical funny and sassy gay man).

The baby was back in the newest episode of Modern Family. That show is just completely awesome.

At any rate, I've noticed the new season being more inclusive too, the hard part is keeping it that way. After they do to Modern Family what they did to Arrested Development I suspect the networks will take it as a sign that 'Mericans aren't interested those diverse characters and never will be ever again.

SGU has been epic fail so far though.

And yeah, hopefully that chick isn't REALLY dead, just Comic book villain dead.
