This is a problem, obviously.

Other than the fact that it just sucks, the Mac will never be able to take over the market until gaming companies start making their games for both platforms. Business apps and gaming are the main reasons people are still buying PCs.

Hell, even *I* have a gaming PC and I find myself using it all the time just because it's THERE (and it's a better/newer computer than my Mac).

What games would you like to see ported to the Mac? What's your take on the Mac gaming scene?

Let's get some dialog going!

I'll state straight away that I'm not a Mac lover. I think it's because I've always used PCs/laptops and it's just easier for me to work my way around. Also I don't completly trust Macs. However, I was under the impression that Mac computers bragged about their 'gaming' on them. Which is just odd because as you've stated there isn't a great deal of choice. I think you're right it's basically down to the companies, but perhaps they feel gaming lovers would get a PC instead of Mac. I think that they may just be worried about losing money and are therefore not experimenting with putting their games onto the Mac.

Macs have never bragged about their gaming... they brag about their GRAPHICS. Which is related, but not the same.

Well, as a Mac user who does not use Windows or consoles, I do miss some of the games that come out that I know I'll probably never get to play, like Mass Effect. But, although I am an avid gamer, and certainly wouldn't mind more choice of games, I already own so many games for the Mac that I will probably never find time to play them all to completion. I am a Diablo II LOD addict and have been playing it since it came out in 2000, so it uses a lot of my time, too. Also, some games have user-made mades (like Dungeon Siege, Escape Velocity, Heroes of Might and Magic, etc) that let you keep playing the game for a long time, even if it isn't infinitely replayable, like Diablo II.

As I said in the other thread, there are many Mac games available as shareware. Check out:
Spiderwebsoftware
Macjoy
pangeasoft.net
among others;

Just a note about a megabundle sale for Mac OS X games at
http://www.pangeasoft.net/xpack/index.html

Keep in mind that the $79.95 price is only good through December, and that these are downloadable games, so a broadband connection is probably necessary to get them. Try the demo versions first to make sure they work on your Mac.

It seems that only the biggest titles are out for Mac and PC. I'd like to see more support for Mac and Linux, actually. (If you think Macs get no love, wait 'till you check what's out for Linux.) And if I ever land my dream job as a programmer at a game developer, I'll be sure to push for it.

Have you tried it?  I like space adventure games a lot, but I am wary about online games because I really can't stand all the jerks and the abusiveness of some of the players.  So I am torn about trying it, afraid I will get hooked by the game but driven off by nasty players.

i played EVE for a while, and i have to say, most of the folks i came across were super nice. just make sure to get into a nice corporation as soon as possible! Very Happy the only downside i can think of is having to make 12 jumps to get a great deal on something...it's a lot of sitting around doing nothing time. LOL.
