On the offchance these two ladies are not that well known outside of their native Australia and UK I'd like to highlight Missy Higgins and Alex Parks to the US folk.
Missy Higgins
...is an Australian singer songwriter and she recently came out in Australia's largest gay magazine. She's awesome live and if you want to check out her stuff here's a couple of personal favorites thanks to YouTube.
Missy Higgins - Scar
Missy Higgins - Steer
Missy Higgins - Where I Stood
Alex Parks
... was a clown, before she won UK talent series Fame Academy. She's an out lesbian and a really cool singer. Not sure what she's up to now but had a few really good songs.
Alex Parks - Looking For Water
Alex Parks - Honesty
Shaggy haired Shane Fans be sure and check out Alex lol |

hee~ i'm not sure who i was talking to on the site's chat but they were pretty surprised when i knew who Missy Higgins was even though i'm in the States. yay for having an aussie ex? n.n; nah, but she has air time here on a couple radio stations and came by SF at least once (waah, i was working that day though so i couldn't go T~T). i just got On A Clear Night and so far, i still like Sound of White better but i've only gone through Clear Night a couple of times. maybe grown on me a bit more as i listen to it more. definately second on people checking out her stuff.
@Jude:
there's always itunes! both of Missy's albums are available on there so unless you're determined to own a hard copy of her CD, you're pretty set. :3
i hadn't heard of Alex Parks before but wow, thank you for bringing her up! definately a beautiful and strong voice. will have to pick up her stuff. _________________ Currently stuck on:

lol Spikey.. yeah pretty much, although after the interview where she actually alluded to it rather than stating it as fact, the press went a little nuts with it saying she didn't mean it that way (God forbid!).
At her concert here last week though a lesbian screamed out to her "Thanks for coming out Missy!!" and she replied to the full arena "Thank you.. it was about time".. so I guess she did mean it that way. |

I really like Alex Parks. I have known about her since Fame Academy. It's a little difficult to compare her first and second albums because her first one was filled with so many covers (many of the songs that she sang on Fame Academy), whereas her second is full of all original material. She's a strong songwriter and a talented vocalist. _________________

I purchased Alex's CD - Introduction, as I found the songs there very beautiful and touching.
But the music of her other albums doesn't touch me so much as from the first. |
