I´m always looking for good yuri manga and anime, and thought we could use a thread to list the titles we come across, so that I and you can get our fix of girl-girl love in 2D form. I´ll start with two series I´m currently following:
Saki is a currently ongoing anime series that follows the manga it`s adapted from closely, but with the added bonus of a yuri subplot. The title character is a teenage girl who´s just started attending high school, one day she´s struck with awe (and perhaps desire) as she sees a beautiful girl walk past her, and quickly blushes and hides when the girl returns her gaze. Shortly after this, one of her new classmates comes along and drags her into a mahjong game that his club is having, Saki harbors a deep dislike of mahjong, but agrees to play with them, and to her surprise discovers the girl from earlier is a member of the club. The girls name turns out to be Nodoka, and she´s the best player in the schools small mahjong club, and mahjong means everything to her, so she´s quite upset when Saki turns out to be better than her, even more so as Saki doesn´t even like mahjong. The reason for Sakis dislike of the game, and her talent for it, is soon revealed: she comes from a family that put mahjong above all else, when Saki´d win her family would get mad about losing, and when she´d lose they´d get angry at her for losing, so playing mahjong became a chore for her rather than a joy. It also lead her to developing her playing style of always finishing the game with a neutral score, so as to avoid upsetting her family. But once the club manages to open her eyes to the joy of playing mahjong, and gets her to play to win, they see their chance for reaching the ultimate goal; participating in the national mahjong tournament, and winning! And so the series goes, with Saki and the quirky clubmembers training for the tournament, and Saki and Nodoka slowly building a friendship, while also dealing with their attraction towards each other, this isn´t handled as openly as, say, the Girl Friends manga or Strawberry Panic, but it´s not exactly subtext either. The anime series can be downloaded as fansubs (from episode 5 and up, the episodes can be found at the makimaki scanlation groups website), while the manga can be read at mangafox.com
Transistor Venus is an espionage series that plays like spyshows of the sixties, but perhaps "lespionage" is a better term to describe it, as the main character is a female spy who seduces every woman she comes across, going so far that she at one point has to sleep on the floor as her bed is full of women sleeping, and even then a girl comes knocking and wants to spend the night with her. Her charms don´t work on everyone though, occasionally she meets a woman who resists her, leading to much frustration and begging from her side. The series take place in the 23rd century, with the action taking place on various planets instead of countries, and a race of lizardmen filling in for the KGB. Enus, the main character, has been nicknamed Venus because of her special gift; nobody in her vicinity get killed no matter what happens, they might get hurt, yes, but never killed, Enus is like a goddess watching over them simply by being there, and while that´s convenient for them, it only complicates things for her, as her reputation leads her opponents to take risks they wouldn´t otherwise take, knowing they´ll survive no matter what. As a manga I don´t think it´s particular entertaining, but there´s a certain appeal in a series that has the female character bed every woman she meets (or at least almost every woman she meets). Transistor Venus can be downloaded at lililicious.net

Try www.lililicious.com - they have absolutely /tons/ of scanlated yuri manga - ongoing projects as well as finished ones, ranging from innocent school-girl crushes to, well, porn ^_^
Anime-wise, Brother, Dear Brother (Oniisama E...) is divine - depressing, but so very good. You'll have to download the fansub, though, as it was never officially licensed in the USA/UK. This unfortunately means that the first 20 or so episodes are of terrible VHS quality. But don't be put off! It's one of the best series I've seen, let alone the best yuri series (well, it's more shoujo-ai, but whatever)! The manga is on Lililicious, if you want to get the idea of the story, but the anime is much better. It spreads out the drama, adds in some back story, and generally enhances the original. I'm currently making an AMV of it, but it's going to be spoilerific, I'm afraid :S
By the same creator, Riyoko Ikeda, is the Rose of Versailles, about a woman called Oscar, who's been brought up as a man and serves in the French Royal Guard, as bodyguard to Marie Antoinette. There's not a lot of yuri-content in the anime, not sure about the manga as I haven't read it all, and Oscar is straight, but it's a cracking good series, and very pretty.
I think with anime, there are plenty with implied girl-love, but fewer with explicit girl-girl relationships, especially outside of the school-girl environment, where in Japan it's seen as a natural part of adolescence for girls to have pseudo-romantic relationships with each other, before moving on to men.
Hope that helps _________________ ><(((*> |

Strawberry Shake and Sasameki Koto = love. Plica totally reminds me of my friend, and Ive read most of these recommendations, and they're all pretty good. I'd recommend going to Dynasty Scans in addition to Lililicious, since they sometimes share the same projects, and Dynasty carries a fair chunk of yuri exclusive to them as well. The Sasameki Koto anime is out (!!!!) and is QUITE faithful to the manga, and on Aoihana (on crunchyroll, the manga, called Sweet Blue Flowers on Lililicious) is out in both anime and manga form (respectively), and both are really quite blue. Both were mentioned on AfterEllen as a matter of fact, and I'm quite excited for both, since they're being received by very many positive reviews (the Aoihana first season JUST ended, and Sasameki Koto just began). As a hopeful artist myself to make yuri manga (and perhaps just gay graphic novels to begin with), it's wonderful to see the landscape changing in this direction. |

Personally, I love Aoi Hana.
It's a very cute love story and the manga is nicely done as well.
Shoujo Sect, Strawberry Panic, Maria-sama ga Miteru, Candy*Boy and Kannazuki no Miko are my favorites in both anime and manga.
Shoujo Sect is a yuri hentai with lots of sex (Shinobu-sama is AWESOME!!!) and Candy*Boy is twincest BUT its done so tastefully and it isn't hentai in the least. _________________

I literally watched aoi hana for the first time a few days ago. Its great and probably my favourite yuri anime so far. I love how its more a story of an ACTUAL lesbian. She knows shes gay and shes cool with it. Shes not confused or experimenting its just who she is. Also its not just about her infatuations and relationships, its kinda a beautiful story about her life and friendship and how things dont always go your way but in the end people move on. Its not perfect, its just life. I know the manga is a little different but the anime puts across a nice point. _________________

Yea, the Aoi Hana manga touches on a few stories that aren't developed in the anime. Which I liked a bit. Almost like how I liked the manga of Shoujo-Sect because it told more story behind some of the other minor characters. :] _________________
