Hi! AoC is looking good. I'd love to see more on War but right now I'm leaning towards AoC. Here's some recent footage from GDC:

There are more recent movies at the bottom right at the site.
I'd love to see a lesbian or GLBT guild in AoC.

Yeah, even though I love PvP I'm still kinda cautious. I really dislike the attitude PvP can attract.
Funcom is going to have PvE servers so I'll probably play there. I was going to play on the RP-PvP server, but after hanging around the AoC community for a while I've started to think the RP-PvP server might turn out as bad as (I think) the FFA-PvP servers will be.
On a side note: I'm a disabled vet also! I was stationed at Peterson in Col Springs for about 11 years and retired there then moved back home. I wish I'd stayed in Colorado though. I really miss the beauty out there.
Love the spaceship in your basement!

PVE servers?
Is that for sure or just a rumor?
I'd seriously take another look at the game if it's true. Reminds me of Linage II, I got into the beta there, and enjoyed the amazing graphics (At that time) I would have liked to play that game except the attitude of the players was just aweful. Everyone was so hostile, chat was non stop taunts, threats and insults. I don't begrudge PVPers there fun, but it's just not my style.
/salute
Always nice to meet another Vet
I did most of my time at Ft Hood, Texas. and moved to CO after being discharged. I love it here. I always used to think I'd end up moving back to Pennsylvania where I grew up, but after living in Denver for 17 years, I'd never live anywhere else. It always seems to me that the sky here is a prettier blue then anywhere else I've been.

Yeah, there was an announcement a little while ago where they said what servers they're planning on and PvE was listed. I'll try to find the link and post it.
In the meantime, they're having an open beta of sorts here shortly
http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=69318
Kinda strange that they only allow you to level to 13 during it though. I've never seen that before...
/salute back
I spent about 11 years at Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs. I definitely agree with you about CO. It's absolutely beautiful there and the sky seems to just pull you in sometimes
Haha! I used to say I'd never move back to Ohio (where I'm from) but here I am!

Found the server type info:
| Quote: | Server Types
Posted: - 21.02.2008
At launch, we are currently planning to have three kinds of servers.
PvE
PvE (or player-versus-environment) servers focus largely on players fighting against computer-controlled monsters and characters, with PvP limited to areas set aside expressly for that purpose.
PvP
PvP (or player-versus-player) servers have more widespread PvP rulesets, encouraging players to fight against each other.
PvP-RP
These are PvP servers with extra rules of conduct to encourage roleplaying and a more in-character feel in-game.
This may change as we continue the Beta process and receive feedback from our testers and fans

I'm really looking forward to playing Age of Conan, even though I've been working more lately.
Ideally I would like to play on a PVE-RP server, but if they aren't going to make one I'll either try and be brave and play on the PVP-RP or I will hope that the regular PVE isn't full of lame kids with names like BUFFDUDE45.
heh.
Just a few more days!

I'm looking forward to AoC as well-- but I refuse to play on a PvP server. I'd rather put up with lame idiots than get ganked when I'm just minding my own business trying to make progress in the game. I guess that's just my play style-- I'm an achiever and anything that "gets in the way" of me gaining levels/equipment/gold and completing quests feels like an aberration rather than part of the game.
It would be awesome if we could pick a server (or two-- to appease both PvE and PvP crowds) and get some groups (or even a guild-- they have those right?) going.

I kind of agree with my coworkers and think that this game will fall under its own system requirements. One of my coworkers has one of those gaming laptops, and she was unable to run the beta smoothly except on lowest settings. I believe Funcom have improved their client, so it might be a lot better now, however.
One of the things that irritates me about this game is that they equate mature content with boobs and violence. I have nothing against nudity or violence, but what about mature, three-dimensional characters and stories with consequences? I have the feeling that AoC won't have much of the latter.
|
Thal
|
By the end of beta they made a lot of improvements to performance. Not sure how much that'll help some folks though. Some people with mid to high end system were having problems, but others were just fine. My system handled the game well, but I definitely saw some frustrated players.
I completely agree with you about the mature content.
On a side note I found this movie I thought was kinda hot:

Yeah, I'm a weird spot. My home PC, which as far as I can tell meets the min requirements, can't run AoC, but my work computer should be able to, except that I can't get the patcher to work right on my work computer. And my experience thus far with Funcom's idea of tech support has been abysmal-- mainly, there seems to be no way to get the attention of an actual human being except by throwing complaints out into the either of the forums. And the site's been so flooded today I haven't even been able to get to the forums. This was a problem I had in beta as well (not the forum bit, but the unresponsiveness of Funcom) and I'm getting more than a little harried. On the other hand, I hear from my friends who can play it that it's a lot of fun.

I ordered the early release a week ago, and am awaiting resolution to a problem I'm having with the key play.com sent me. I'm looking forward to AoC, especially with my increasing dissatisfaction with GW. My biggest concern with AoC isn't the PvE/PvP servers, but with the Euro/NA account restrictions they have in place. I belong to an alliance in GW that has a large Euro-based community, and many of my friends will be heading to AoC. All my European friends have purchased the game through European distributers, and in order for me to join them in AoC, I had to purchase from a European distributer as well. Either the friends I have in the US/Canada follow suit, or I will be leaving half my fl behind. This seems a rather arbritary decision by play.com, and I hope they change this policy down the road.

Good news on my end: got the game running (and patching efficiently) on my work box.
I'm on Thog and my char is Anjelika.
Playing an assassin right now-- which seems to be pretty hit or miss no pun intended. Basically with enemies my level it seems like I can take one on no problem, and if I sneak attack one in a group of two, I can handle two, but three is pretty much right out (again, for stuff my lvl.) And in the daytime I'm pretty much screwed, because sneak attacking is nigh impossible (even with the hide skill maxed.)
At least the death penalty's not bad-- though I might try one of the more tanky classes just to see what it's like to wear serious armor and not be made of glass. On the whole though it's pretty fun. It doesn't seem to be as tactically deep as WoW in terms of group roles and having different powers for different purposes-- crowd control, escape, mana regen etc.-- but the individual fights are much more entertaining than WoW because there's a good deal of reacting to what's playing out in front of you rather than simply going in with a preset strategy and executing.
Also, I really don't see what looks so good about it to make the sys reqs so high. But these are just first impressions. I'm only level 13 or so.

Mind you, I'm not playing AoC, but I do agree with you. Some of the folks at work have had problems with the system requirements, and most of them have pretty beefy gaming computers. If you want loads of people to buy and subscribe to your game, why make it hard for them?

Just for info, there is one female guild that I've found
http://www.guildcafe.com/GuildHome.php?guildid=17411
It's called Amazon Tribe and is playing on the Wiccana server. The leader isn't requiring members to be female in real life unless you're going to be an officer or something, and it's not lesbian which makes me cry.
Rogue I hear Cimmeria's a gank fest which is a shame.

After playing this game a few days now, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I've created 3 chars, but have decided Priest of Mitra will be my main - they are a hoot to play. How are others finding the game? btw, I'm on the Bora server (PvE), and have hooked up with a few friends who came over from GW. It really makes questing more enjoyable.

Haha, my female barbarian just hit on the barmaid in the tavern on tortage (i forgot the name). She was flattered by my compliments and even considered getting to know each other more intimately. The dialogues are funny and obviuosly written specifically for female characters. It's nice to see that Funcom made an effort with this
I play on the european server "crom" and my char is called "Torah" btw

I'm 38 now and i didn't grind for a second ! Remember to do all the quests in all the 3 Regions (Aqulonia, Cimeria and Stygia) and do all the grey quests as well. They still give plenty of XP when you finish them. If you do that you wont need to grind

I don't mean grinding for levels, but all the running back and forth many of the quests require. Would be nice if they introduced a faster way to travel to between the zones - I spend more time getting to Point Z from Point A than I do fighting mobs. My feet are sore :p

Have you done all the quests in the Noble district yet? Those were quite fun. I haven't even been to Mount E. yet, so looking forward to new geographics. I rolled a PoM and ToS on an RP-PvP server (Aquilonia I think it is), and play with 2 friends from GW. Should be interesting trying to level up in the FFA environment the RP server turned out to be but so far having a good time.
btw - since we're both on Euro server, you might consider joining my friends and I on Aquilonia RP-PvP server. We haven't advanced very far (level 15 from doing the destiny quests) because my friends are on vacation atm. Let me know if this interests you ^^

hehe, thats where i am right now at lvl 51 I can't decide if i should buy a bigger bag for 2g or save it for the horse. Somehow i'm not that keen on getting a horse in this game. I don't know why.
Also to answer the question about starting again on your server... Well, i like to play on a pve server and i don't think i would have the the time and patience to level another char. I hate doing stuff twice or even more often in games I usually get bored quickly and hop to anther game. I played Tabula Rasa before AoC and it was great. Rushed through it to level cap and had a lot of fun. Will go back to it if they add content. Before that it was Lotro, which was ok for while, but got boring halfway to cap. It's a very solid and good lookign game though. We'll see what comes next

I just won an auction for the collector's edition AoC. I'm really looking forward to this game. It looks like it's more "adult" oriented, and hope their policies toward LGBT people are better than some OTHER big mmo's. *cough mumble*
Frankly I liked WoW, but I'm about fed up with their lack of action when lesbian/gay bashing occurs. Will not hesitate to dump all my WoW characters, if this MMO proves to be more entertaining, as well as mature and responsible.
It's a good sign when NPC interaction by default has accommodated lesbian content. (mentioned in an earlier post)
Which is good for me since most women on MMO's are men, or unlikely to flirt back (straight) lol (my damn luck)
So excited I can't stand it! The building cities aspect has me VERY excited! I think that is so cool. Hopefully I will convince my WoW guildies to come play with me, and one day build our own little city.

Gratz on winning the contest, Luna. I hope you enjoy AoC; it has it's good points. You might consider joining one of the RP servers (either PvP or PvE), where people seem a bit more mature than the pure PvE or PvP ones. Just my take. Idiots abound regardless of the venue, so be prepared for the worst and enjoy the best. I actually cancelled my Euro account today, but am considering restarting on a US one. The timezone thing just got to be too much of a hassle. I joined a PvP server with friends from GW, and our intention was to play together to discourage random ganking. This worked quite well but I found myself playing alone much of the time (when they left for the evening), and because I was guildless I was the object of much griefing attempts. While I enjoyed the added excitement of having to be wary of my surroundings at all times, it really made char advancement a slow process.
Anyway, will think about whether getting AoC-US is worth the investment, and will post which server I join when I do.

Take your time. I'm lvl 56 now and i've finally run out of content. They promise to bring in more but not when. Then again you might be the grinding type (like so many) and don't care about anything else, but i hate grinding so i have canceled my account and will wait until they bring in new content (and hopefully fix a couple hundred bugs)

I found the levels between 50 and 60 to be a bit of a pain as well - and no, I hate grinding. I ended up spending a lot of time in E. Mountains killing mobs to get to level 60, then headed to Thunder River and Aztel's Fortress for more quests. The thought of having to go through all that again is a bit daunting, tbh, but the price you pay for switching servers I guess.
Hopefully they'll iron out those bugs and add new content in the near future. I'm looking at a couple of guilds to join to add to the gameplay experience. If I have to grind, I want to be with someone who can share in the misery with me. Take care and see you soon!

I also have a high end computer, and the lag does get to be a bit much, especially in group quests. I've tried various settings to improve it, but not having much luck. Maybe once they get the DirectX10 update done, things will getter better (*doesn't hold breath*)
