Anime Recommendations?

So I feel like I've exhausted my anime collection and feel especially frustrated how guy-centric most of it is. Can anyone give me some good titles- preferably one with cute girls!  Smile I also really like high school animes. Idk why though, considering that I hated my high school.

Here's what I have seen:

Bleach
Vampire Hunter D
Miyazaki films
Neon Genesis Evangelion- (I really liked this show even though the plot was a total mind-f)
Code Geass
Death Note
Ah! My Goddess
Akira
Tenchi Muyo!
Trigun
Fullmetal Alchemist
Hellsing
Cowboy Bebop
FLCL

...I feel like I'm forgetting some, but whatevs. Any help would be really appreciated!

I'd reccommend Azumanga Daioh - it's short episodes and random as hell but it's funny and there's a character with a lesbian crush if that'll sweeten the deal Very Happy

It's a high school one too, basically just about the events in a group of girls' lives with surrealism thrown in for good measure.

Well first of all, do you want recommendations of things that are licensed and available to purchase in a store or would would be comfortable with using either a torrent or IRC program to download things? May seem like a silly question but some people just aren't comfortable with downloading things so I want to make sure.

And is there a particular genre you gravitate towards? The majority of the ones you listed are very 'action/fighting' oriented, save for a few, so I'm not sure if 'quieter/Slice of Life' series like Azumanga Daioh would make the cut.

There are quite a few anime out there that are action/fighting/adventure oriented but feature a female lead/cast that are available in stores like the following:

Noir
Madlax
Simoun
Mai HiME / Mai Otome
Angelic Layer
Sakura Taisen/Sakura Wars
Bakuretsu Tenshi/Burst Angels
Tsukihime
fate/stay night
Saber Marionette J

I'm sure there are plenty more but those were the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Some of my personal favorites that are available in stores are:

Vision of Escaflowne
Kaleido Star
Princess Tutu
Haibane Renmei
Maria-sama ga Miteru
Fruits Basket
Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi
Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu
Millennium Actress
Paprika

As for things that aren't available in stores yet, well...I'll just wait to see if you'd be interested in downloading first. XD
raddogz

Ninja Scroll - oldie but goodie
Final Fantasy Advent Children - bad ass if you like FF 7
Naruto - kind of fun
Patlabor
Captain Harlock
Akira
Read or Die
Lupine Series
Fist of the North Star

If you don't watch Elfin Lied you'll make Lucy angry.

You won't like her when she's angry.

I've gotten quite into Deathnote, however there's still 2 more discs to be released, well here in Oz anyway.

lol well if ultra-violent stuff is in the running, then there's also Higurashi  no Naku Koro ni/When They Cry, which is definitely NOT for the lighthearted/easily queasy. There are multiple series but as far as I know, only the first one is available in stores.

You should def watch  Claymore, though it's about monsters and warriors in the middle ages-ish.

Hmm cute girls.. Penguin musume heart is a sure winner, funny and completly random.

Darker than black, good anime about humans with special abilities and those who have to catch them.

Ergo proxy- Haven't seen it all the way tru yet, but it's really good. Androids who suddenly begins to think for themselves and stops being slaves, pretty neat. Makes you think a lot of deep thoughts xD

Not an anime per se, but Invader Zim is really really funny, you should def check it out if you haven't seen it. Gir is awesome ^^

Thanks so much for the suggestions, ladies. They are super helpful and I'll let you know what I think once I check them.  Very Happy

*check them out. Geez, I should really preview my posts. Oh, and nekotine, I'm totally okay with downloading, so long as suspicious men in black suits don't knock on my door one day with a log of bittorrents from 10 years ago. Eeek.  Shocked

They will have to lock up the entire population ages 13-45  lol

I know it's somewhat different, but have you checked out the Death Note live action films.

They are Bossume!!!!!   I've just got to find an English dubbed version of L: Save the world.

I don't really follow death note or anything like it, but these movies have peaked my interest.

L: Change the world is during a limited run in theaters.   Showing in my area on April 30th.

Right on time! woohoo!

The Death Note manga is SO good! I'm sure the anime and movies are good too.

Is anyone going to be watching any of the new spring 2009 animes?  I'm probably gonna be checking out Higashi no Eden and Shangri-La.  Out of the new stuff coming out those two looked the most interesting to me anyway.
Oh and maybe the one that looked like Guitar Hero moe, lol.  Depending on the ratio of cute to annoying I might watch that one as well since I really liked Lucky Star.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrgZWj0V7gQ&hd=1  Not yuri/shoujo-ai at all, but still, the art is really pretty...
Cullen

Oh and i just noticed you said you like high school animes.  In that case you really should try out Lucky Star, it is mad funny.  The art is kindof lame in places, but I think that kindof adds to its charm.  Somewhat like South Park or something  Rolling Eyes
Serenity

I really liked the Death Note anime. Haven't read the manga or seen the live action though.

I second Mai Hime. It has school girls and lots of action.  Smile  I also like Kannazuki no Miko. It has a lot of different genres thrown together, but I enjoyed it. Its also yuri.

I also recommend Beck. Its a school anime, but not yuri. Love the anime and manga.  An average guy learns to play the guitar, joins a band, and eventually becomes a rock star.  Its about growing up, kind of a coming of age story. And I really liked the character Maho. She's awesome.  Very Happy

I've seen a few episodes of Lucky Star. Its really funny! I really need to finish watching it sometime.  Smile

Have you seen Meloncholy of Haruhi?  I thought that one was quite funny as well. Kyon's internal dialogue cracks me up.  Laughing

Meloncholy of Haruhi is the most awesome thing ever. I NEVER buy boxed sets but I did with this one.

Yeah!  I should have mentioned that Lucky Star is best if you watch Haruhi first, because there are a lot of Haruhi references since they were both made by the same studio with a lot of the same seiyu cast.
dorkalicious

I don't know much about anime but have been watching Last Exile which has been pretty good.

I've just started watching Full Metal Alchemist -- One the second episode  Embarassed

She looks way cute. I'll check it out.

Also, just finished Mai-Hime and I really really liked it. I'm half-done with Elfin Lied and I really dig that so far, too.

Has anyone ever seen a show called Maria+Holic? I found it randomly on animecrazy.net and it's really interesting. It's about a lesbian who goes to an all-girls school to find her true love or whatever and meets this super cute girl who happens to actually be a guy.  Surprised
Nimbo

i've seen maria-holic, it's awesome, random and funny.. it's not tacky at all though that was my first thought when i heard the premise.. i can def recommend it.
