Apple ProductsA year and six months ago in the tech world there were two companies I absolutely despised and that was Apple and Sony.
Mostly because of their complete disregard to customer satisfaction and the fact that they were out of the price range of the average customer.
That all changed when my uncle got me a Macbook and an iPod for my birthday.
My whole perspective changed.
Now I want a Macbook Pro for graduation and an iPod Touch 16gb.
And even with my oversized fingers I'd take an iPhone 3G if someone'd buy it for me.
I realized that both companies were targeting a niche market who had the resources to buy their products and that's all that mattered.
I came full circle on the day that I realized I wanted to work for Apple in about 6 years after I get my masters. Its amazing how quickly things change.
Apple here I come.
P.S. Someone buy me an iPod Touch for Christmas 'cause I can't afford one. Please.

Once I found out the true power of Apple products and their potential, I started to read blogs, and then I got an iphone 3G and it took off from there. Apple Software and Apple Hardware is just engineered differently, and that is what makes Apple ahead of the game.
I love my MacBook Pro
My iphone 3G

Well there was a lot packed into that 4 minutes.
Umm for $400 that projector should have a larger range but its pretty darn neat.
I agree with Brian on that AT&T sorry service.
Also I want one of those Mitsubishi tele's even if they are $7000 (Use our impending stimulus)
Leopard in 3D honestly isn't that fascinating to me, don't know why but it isn't.
I upgraded to an 80gig iPod now, it was a trade for my Nano with my uncle.
And hey do you know how to burn DVDs onto your computer or into iTunes? Does that capability even exist?
LOL @ iPhone Nano... if they did I think it'd be iPhone Mini.
Umm I can be sold on the idea of an update to Leopard and more Mac Mini's but I don't know abt a 32gb iPhone 'cause it just doesn't seem time for that yet, iPhone's have been updated in the June/Julyish area so I think that's where it'll stay.
Who know's with Apple though, they may unveil an entirely new product for us to get excited about.

At a Job-less MacWorld Vice President of Apple Phil Schiller delivered today's Apple Keynote! As predicted it was a pretty tame event, but Apple has some updates to software and..
ohh yeah "one more thing"
Apples iLife(Apples Basic multimedia software)
iWork(Apple's version of Microsoft Office) were updated..
I am still learning how to use it, but I am very excited to see the new features!
The thing that caught my eye is that all itunes music is going DRM free..
and
MUSIC can now can be downloaded on a wi-fi network AND 3G cellular network straight to my iphone!
ANYWHERE I am..I was sooo waiting for that!
and my Mac now has a sister..
the 17" inch MacBook Pro!
with a battery that can last up 8 hours on a single charge
AMAZING for the computer industry!

I bought my G4, iBook, and very first iPod (when they first came out) in 2001.
I still have the desktop and iBook and they are both still working very well. Last year I bought a MacBook for my aging desktop and laptop and still think it's the hottest thing since sliced bread.
I used to believe that computers and software should be cheap and inexpensive and ALL Apple products were for the geeky, and goody two shoes with too much money on their hands. Since 2001 there is no going back ever to a pc (I grudgingly have to use one at work though -sigh)
The new Macbooks are still nicely priced and is perfect for most people. Even if I had the money I still would get a Macbook vs a Macbook Pro as I really have no need for the fancy doodads the Pro offers.
My Macbook is still my main computer as I use it everyday for email, internet, photo editing, music source, and office applications.

I think Macs are nice because of their intuity, I liked how I could pick one up (after 16 years of PC) and know what to do right away.

*sits in the corner and draws circles on the floor with her finger* ;_;
LOL as someone that IS one of the people in an Apple Store that's there to talk to customers if they want assistance, I feel a bit offended by that comment! Having worked at Fry's prior to switching to the Apple Store, I think that Apple definitely has it right when it comes to customer service since we are more than willing to take an hour or more to educate customers on the products, regardless of whether they're going to walk out with a product that day or ever. If it makes you feel better, we get absolutely no commission on our sales, so as sales people on the floor, we don't get anything out of making a sale other than knowing that we did our best to get what suits the customer's needs. I can't say that about any other retail place I've ever worked at before.
Aaaaanyways, I'm sure Vitality will beat me up for this but...I could've totally gone to MacWorld for free...but I didn't have my Apple corporate badge yet soooo...I couldn't get in without it. Not sure if I'll still be with Apple this time next year but even if I am, I wonder if I'd be able to get in as an Apple employee since Apple's not gonna be there anymore. Time will tell~.
And yes, I'm totally drooling along with everyone else over the new 17" MacBook Pro, especially since I'm still using my 1st gen 17" MBP that only has an Intel Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo. ;_; Of course, I'm wondering if I should just save up for an actual MacPro instead since I do want to start taking my video and music editing to the next level. Mrrr...hate being so broke... DX
As for Flash on the iPhone, unfortunately, it just isn't powerful enough to support Flash at this point. I mean, with as much (improved) battery power the phone uses right now just for regular web browsing, can you imagine how fast the battery would go if it had to load up Flash as well? Then have to resize it to a user's preference? Then last long enough to stream a video using it? If it does happen, Adobe will likely have to create a third person app of some sort to do Flash. Believe me, I wish it could happen too but at this point, I don't think the technology is there quite yet but I'm sure they (Adobe and/or Apple) are working on it.

@Vitality :: Yeah, I'm waiting on the Apple employee copies to come into our store so I can finally upgrade my iLife and get iWork on it. Oh happy day it will be~
@URSwhizkid :: LOL well, if anything it's been kinda hectic since there are less sales people on the floor than there used to be, thus less people to help every customer in the store at the same time. I think I've just been in retail so long that I'm able to handle it better, which I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing that I've been desensitized so much... <_<;
*scratches head* Jailbreaking an iPhone I can understand but I can't really think of a reason to hack an iPod Touch... In any case, have fun doing so? ^^; For most people, restoring an i-Anything is usually a chore because they didn't regularly make back ups of their device prior to the breaking so they have to start from zero but it sounds like y'all got it under control.

Ah, but we're not necessarily on an Apple forum. We're on a gaming forum which happens to have a general Apple thread but I get your point, and I agree that there are going to be varying levels of expertise amongst posters, just as there are varying levels of expertise at the Apple Store I work at. And let me tell you, it varies from 'I have an iPod _____ and use iTunes' to 'I could disassemble and reassemble anything Mac in record time if Apple was like the military.' Lord knows I'm no super Apple expert and I will never claim to be even though I am an Apple employee.
| Deja wrote: | | and basically the innital post came across that like no matter what rose did she was going to epic-ly fail at it. She would never have done it if she wasn't completely confident. |
And in many cases, one's interpretation to what is said to text comes with a giant Costco sized bag of salt because let's face it, while it's easy to read, it's also very hard to read. Me, I felt like the response to URSwhiz was a bit on the harsh side, knee jerk reaction or not, but that's me. I feel it would've been just as easy to take a moment, let the initial anger die down, then reply with something like 'I appreciate the warning but I've been working with Apple products for a long while, and am confident that I can accomplish what I want to do with my iPod Touch, but should some difficulty come along, I'm prepared to deal with it.' Gets the point across just fine without having any sort of whiplash.
| Deja wrote: | | with my post i was just being a smart ass if i was "starting drama" you'd know it I'm not "notwhite" |
And believe me, I'm so ever glad you're not notwhite, and it was not my intention to imply that you're on the same level as him. :3 I just feel like URSwhiz had already admitted that her comment was out of place so why take a pot shot at someone that already admitted to their fault? It might get a chuckle out of you and others that felt it was justified but I'd rather not see this place slowly turn into a every other forum out there that allows and/or encourages such clique-like behavior. Not saying we all have to get along and sing Kumbaya but at least respect and be civil with each other. I'm not an admin so I can't enforce anything but I can simply request it as a fellow poster. Anyways, that's the last I'll say on it in the thread.

lmfao at the prices theyre going at now itd cost a foortunue. i mean the 8gb costs $329AUD here. unless they changed up the pricing structure with a quickness (and that would assume theyd be able to harness some massive efficiencies in peoduction hitherto unkown) it could cost around the 1k mark!

Haha, nothing in general except for the mass glitch failure of the 30GB models over the new year due to the internal clock not compensating for the leap year. You'd think after the panic of the Y2K bug when 1999 clocked over to 2000, they would've foreseen other new year related issues with internal clocks.
Though I'm not completely bashing the big M, i wasn't too impressed by the lack of basic features in the iphone. Def very pretty and cool, but would find it frustrating to not have MMS or video capture abilities.

I finally caved the other day and put an Apple sticker on my car. I am almost never seen without my iPhone (people say it's permanently attached to me). I love love love love it. I'm so glad I was able to grab a refurbished one on apple.com before the 3G ones came out. I like the older model better (plus I live where there isn't any 3G...so...yeah).

Don't forget, there's also the new iPod Shuffle!
Mmmm...I'm not sure if going smaller was the way to go, really. I get a lot of customers that decide to get the Nano over the Shuffle because they don't like the lack of a screen, and to take away even the controls from the face of the player might be an even bigger turn off. And with the rate of headphone returns we get for the iPhone and iPods, putting the controls on there might be an even bigger disadvantage when they happen to go out while someone is in the middle of their jog or workout. Not to mention it's only coming out with 2 colors. I'm sure they'll come out with the other colors later but meh...
I did want to grab one for when I start going back to the gym but if we don't have any of the current generation in the store at this time, I'll likely grab a refurbished one.
Just my $0.02. :3

im a non apple person. working in IT + a heavy portable music listener.
Had and stuck with creative until 4 later I had to cave in and get an ipod due to storage issues (creative couldnt compete so had nothing over 60gb)
Had the ipod now for about 7 months. Its ok but Horrible when it comes to transfering music. Itunes is disgusting. Duplicating music when i format the music list (imagine going through 90gb of fun) Taking 6 hours to get the music into my itunes library, taking anotehr 6 hours to transfer to the music onto my ipod.
My ipod is already randomly pausing and its getting worse and worse. It just randomly pauses, especially when i click next song thats when it loves to pause so i can be forced to pres play 6 times in 20 seconds sometimes. Not fun.
With a healthy 90gb of music itunes can run so slow too trying to gather and save the library.
I really miss my drag and drop on the creative baby. godamn i miss it.
working in IT, its also horrible to support mac users. I'd only consider getting a mac should i get into the realm of graphic editing.
I'm for the argument that apple just know how to market their product well. People seem to think they are 'indiviuals' for using apple pc's now. (ill happily not put graphic designers in that category though)
im really liking vista for home purposes more and more everyday. Lying in bed with a remote control for my laptop and not having to move to play videos. AWESOME.
XP is damn easy to support for users at work too.

^^
i love the arguments over xp and vista. i love all my platforms but don't have a problem with vista. I think the only people who have problems with it are the people doing multimedia things that vista just doesn't support. If really all you're doing is web browsing or downloading or whatever then I'd get Vista just cause it's all shiny and better to look at then XP lol Macs are fun but expensive (if you're wanting a good one anywaaay) and what's the point in buying something expensive just to browse the web? lol We get it, Windows suckzors (agaaain, depending on what you're using it for).
Apple has some great products whereas Microsoft doesn't (Zune anyone?) and I for one loooooove my ipod and wouldn't trade it in or re-sale it for anything right now. I've made it do things it's not supposed to do and for a while it was more then a multimedia device, it was a gaming device too.
Although I've been having some issues lately with it as for some reason when I plug it into my computer it's telling me I have 7 gigs out of 16 to use which doesn't make any sense as I probably only have 2 gigs of music on there (yes, lame) and maybe about a whole handful of applications I use. So apparently my ipod is filling up space randomly and going through the Finder application hasn't helped me one bit. I find that since getting my laptop I just use my Ipod for AIM, checking mail, and music, but i still wouldn't give up my Ipod
so there's my pointless opinion lol

Okay now I'm curious...
If the device is running slow and buggy you should return it if it's under warranty.
Granted I am running on a Macbook with a third generation 40G iPod, it never takes more than twenty minutes max to completely load my music on to it. I'm using USB 2.0.
On my older Apple desktop (G4 867Mhz) running on USB 1.0 it takes a little over half an hour running the same function.
I sync my ipod to update my music according to my music library in iTunes.
Can you explain what you mean by this: "Duplicating music when i format the music library?"

how much music do you have? try transferring 90gb. its 2.0. secondly, when i delete my whole library and add it again which i do maybe 2wice a year give or take it multiplies the wav tracks since itunes doesnt support wav. Im not going to go though my large library and change the random wav tracks that would take a huge amount of time :\
i did it recently + disk checked + defraged to try cann the bugs but they still persist blah. ive got a 3 year warranty on the bitch b/c i knew it would crap itself and it hasnt even been a year :\ just have to get off bum and whinge about it to jb hi fi yawn.

not only does this thing take minimalism to new and ridiculous levels, I have two major beefs with it, both regarding the new control setup.
1) My earphones get pounded, they end up getting flicked into drinks, crushed by chairs etc, and i hate the idea that I wouldn't be able to control my iPod if I broke them until i went to the store to replace the damn things.
2) Inside the new shuffle is a DRM chip which prevents you using third party headphones not authorized by apple. Apple is such a control freak over its hardware and software and frankly this is toeing the line with anti competitive practice which I hate.
IMO this anal suppository of a device is a smear on a nice line of products. If your dividing by gb's to get equivalent prices its probably better value to buy a nano anyway. And its prettier.
PS i ditto on hating that the company fluctuates between offering multiple colors then two! like wtf i get it has to do with manufacturing costs and the reduction thereof until economies of scale are achieved but ugh!

37gb on a 3g 40gb ipod.
What I do is I do is within iTunes - File/Library/Export Library so it creates an XML file. This way I'm not having to redo album information and the like. Fwiw, you could just all the files to the AAC audio format, and whatever cannot be converted i.e. WAV files just keep them in a separate folder and just have iTunes know where the location is but not add it to the library itself.
If you have a warranty on it, best time to turn it in now. Assuming it's not operator error you should be able to bring it in and get a replacement on the spot.

1) Yeah, that's definitely a big worry in my opinion but hey, people have been coming in by the droves, buying them up so as long as they feel confident with it, more power to them.
2) This I can kinda understand due to the controls being on the headphones now, and I figure it's going to be quite a while until other 3rd party companies come out with headphones that also have the controls on them, so yeah...it's quite the disadvantage to those that prefer the fit of other headphones to the Apple ones. Either way, not the most brilliant move...
I guess this is why they've decided to at least keep the 1gb Shuffle around, in addition to just wanting a small sized one for the people that just don't need that much music when they're working out and such.
I will say this...readjusting the display area for the new Shuffles was a pain in the ass and kept me in the store until 2am... x_x;

Happier news!...
Apple will be "demoing" the iphone 3.0 software update on March 17th 2009!
I am thinking it wont be ready by next week, but it will give us an idea on what to expect!
1. MMS to the iphone
2. Tethering
3. Copy and paste
I can't wait to see...
|

So far it looks like they announced Peer to Peer connectivity via bluetooth, Google maps turn by turn, push notifications, some other random stuff, copy and paste and more...

Whoo, I'm pretty excited about the new update. Shame only developers get the beta but meh, what can you do?
The landscape texting will be helpful but I was pretty comfortable with texting in portrait. Guess it pays to have small hands/fingers? Or maybe it's my gaming thumb dexterity that helped me? lol
Being able to send pic messages will be a big YAY...but I'm curious as to whether we'll be able to receive as well. I mean, usually they'd say 'send and receive' soooo...hmm... We could assume that THEY assumed that if you can send you can also receive but we'll see. I have friends that try to send me pic messages from other services like Verizon and what-not now but I have to access a webpage to see them, and within a limited amount of time. ~_~; I would love to be able to skip that...
Turn by turn navigation will be awesome. I guess I'll finally have to put that iPhone holder on the dash of my car in the summer!
Kinda a bummer that iPod Touch users will have to pay for it though.

Today's Apple Event was bigger than expected!

Watch out Palm Pre!!

I don't think so!..
The worlds most advanced mobile OS.
Now even more advanced.
Get an advance preview of what we’re building next.
On March 17, Apple presented the blueprint for iPhone OS 3.0, the next version of the world’s most advanced mobile platform. In addition to previewing its innovative features, Apple gave members of the iPhone Developer Program immediate access to the iPhone OS 3.0 software beta and an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) with over 1,000 completely new APIs.
- In-App Purchasing: Allows developers to sell additional content from within applications. Highlighted uses include magazine subscriptions, eBooks, additional levels and items for games.
- Peer-to-Peer Connectivity: Find other devices running the app via Bonjour over Wi-Fi of Bluetooth. Good for gaming, but also other applications for sharing data.
- Third-Party Accessory Apps: Allowing accessory manufacturers to create applications to interface with their hardware accessories.
- Push Notification: Rather than using background processes that hamper battery life, utilize third-party server to push badge, text, and audio alerts from applications.
- Turn by Turn: Apple will allow developers to use CoreLocation for turn-by-turn GPS directions.
- Cut, Copy and Paste: Available across all apps. Shake to undo or redo.
- Landscape keyboard: Available in all key applications, including Mail.
- MMS: Picture messaging now available.
- Voice Memos: Record notes, lectures, interviews, etc.
- Spotlight Search: Available across all applications. Systemwide search available from main home screen by flicking to the left.
- A2DP Bluetooth: Support for stereo bluetooth headsets.
Tethering, another much-requested feature, was addressed in the Q&A section of the event. Apple is building the client side of tethering into OS 3.0, but cooperation from carriers is also required in order for it to be offered.
The new iPhone OS 3.0 is available to all registered iPhone developers today as a free beta. Full release to customers will be this summer. OS 3.0 will be free for all iPhone users and a $9.95 upgrade for all iPod touch users. Most features will be available for the first-generation iPhone, although hardware limitations will prevent some features, such as MMS and stereo Bluetooth, from being added to those devices. Meanwhile, Apple also revealed that Bluetooth support can be activated in the 2nd generation iPod Touches.
Apple has posted an iPhone OS 3.0 Preview page listing a few of the highlights. A video of today's media event will also be posted to the page later today.

The only downside I can think of is that it is slow to update/sync. It updates via the 3.5mm headphone jack/port

It'd be pretty hypocritical of me to flame you for having a Mac seeing as I work in an Apple Store. XD But welcome!
I have yet to attempt putting any Windows OS on my Mac to try gaming on it but I don't really need to at this point since I still have a PC for all my gaming purposes. Besides, my Mac is one of the first gen Intel MacBook Pros so 1) there are many games I'd want to tote around with me to play and 2) I'd rather wait to get one of the new unibodies to put Windows on it.
Ugh...I need a second job so I can afford a new shiny Mac already... T~T

As of today all music on iTunes is high quality DRM free music!
iTunes music. Now 100% iTunes Plus.
Now, every song available on the iTunes Store is an iTunes Plus song. That means you get high-quality music with 256-Kbps AAC encoding, making every song you download virtually indistinguishable from the original recording. iTunes Plus songs are all free of burn limits and digital rights management (DRM). So the music you buy will play on iPod, Apple TV, all Mac and Windows computers, and many other digital music players. It’s also easy to upgrade songs you previously purchased from iTunes to iTunes Plus. You don’t have to buy the song or album again. Just pay the 30¢ per song upgrade price. (Music video upgrades are 60¢ and entire albums can be upgraded for 30 percent of the album price.)
Millions of songs for just 69¢, 99¢, or $1.29
Browse over 10 million songs on the iTunes Store and discover new favorites to add to your collection. Purchase songs for just 69¢, 99¢, or $1.29. And, as always, most albums are $9.99.
