Black Friday

For those who don't have Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, which is always on a Thursday. Black Friday is a day where ABSOLUTELY CRAZY PEOPLE get up at ridiculous hours of the morning to go SHOPPING because a lot of retail places will have some sort of massive sale going on.

Me, being the retail monkey peon that I am, I have to work from 4:30 to 11:30. That's not too bad, right? Well, let me clarify that a bit more. I'll be working from 4:30AM to 11:30PM. Yes, 14 hours. Sure, I get two 30 minute breaks and a 3 hour lunch but c'mon...4:30am to 11:30pm? That's just RIDICULOUS.

And the scary thing is, by the time I get to the place I work (an electronics store), the line of customers that want to get into the store is already AROUND THE BUILDING. That's like 3-4 city blocks. It's just INSANE. I like to save money as much as the next person but you couldn't pay me enough to get up at 3am or earlier, just to go friggin' SHOPPING. Just. NO.

...so anyone else working Black Friday in the States? Razz

Black Friday.

Matierialism gone mad in a society corrupted by run away capitalism...

Millions of people buying cheap crap they don't need with credit cards they can't afford to pay off.... Oh geeezzzz don't get me started Mad

I'm not even going to leave my house today.

I made it...somehow...

I'm kinda stuck inbetween this phase of 'I can't feel my legs' and 'If I couldn't see my feet, I would think they'd been worn down to stumps. Painful stumps.'

...now to cry myself to sleep in anticipation of the 12:30pm to 12am shift tomorrow... Crying or Very sad

What store do you work at?

I was outside at Staples at 2am. Very long...very cold night.

Fry's Electronics, if you happen to have one in your area. There are a few spread across the US but mostly along the west coast/side (CA, OR, WA, NV, AZ), save for some locations in TX, IL, IN and GA.

Huh, Staples has a Black Friday sale? I never worked there but I worked at Office Max and I don't recall us having a Black Friday sale... Of course, it's possible I've stricken it from my memories. n.n;

Anyhow, survived day two, although it was extremely uncomfortable on the feet, even with Crocs on. I <3 my Crocs but even they couldn't save my feet from a 14 hour shift, followed by a 12 hour one. x_x

I went quite later in the day after it had calmed down...around 3pm and bought myself a tablet for my computer. Sadly, I ran into a poor friend of mine at Circuit City who had been working for over 14 hours and was scheduled to work until 11pm that night. A friend of mine was outside at midnight with a line 2 buildings long from the place where she was trying to go...all for a 100$ 30gb Zune that sold out by the time she got there. Ridiculous. >.>

I was blessed I got to miss working on Black Friday. I have a job interview at gamestop today. heh.
I got laid off on my other computer job.
I did go out at 8am to find my friend a birthday present.

right after college i worked at gardenridge, a place known for it's multi-day "shop a thons" right around the holidays. yeah...my first day was thanksgiving day, on register numero uno. talk about misery.

i feel for you. i really do. i hope you managed to survive the weekend! it'll get better, i promise!

but you've just made me immeasurably more thankful for my crummy desk job, that's for sure.

Yeah, I somehow managed to make it through both days, relatively unscathed. Thank goodness I got sunday off, I know a few people needed to work the whole weekend. Poor souls. Sad We switched to 'holiday hours' now as well, so now we're open an extra hour long every day. Ugh... =_=;

My sunday was spent at home, sleeping in, napping lots and having a nice epsom salt soak in the tub. Very nice but man, do I wish I had a bigger/deeper tub so I could really stretch out and really submerge myself. Note to self, save up for a nice Japanese style tub as they're all designed for soaking rather than bathing (they do that prior to getting into the bath).

@dorkybutcute:
LOL I'm glad I can make you appreciate your desk job more than before. That's what I'm here for. ;3
