Mercy Medical

Borderlands

So who got it?  I picked it up on release day and I'm loving it.  Haven't had a ton of time to sit down an invest in it yet and I'm still figuring a few things out, but I think that once I get the hang of it, I'll love it even more.  Played mostly SP so far, but got some co-op in last night.

Anyone else playing?  It'd be pretty sweet to get some all girl co-op going.

EDIT:  Whoops!  Forgot to say I'm playing on 360.

I couldn't decide if I wanted to rent this or not yesterday, it looks cool, but I hadn't heard anything about it. Guess I'll check it out Cool

There hasn't been a whole lot out there about this game, but I assure you, it is awesome.

If you haven't heard much about it, it's basically an FPS/RPG hybrid.  The game play is not linear at all as you can pick up quests here and there and do them as you please (sort of in the same way as WoW).  There is crazy tons of lot drops from most mobs as well as loot hidden throughout the game (sort of in the realm of Diablo).  The world is completely open so you can go anywhere you please and there are sort of "portals" from one location to another.  The gameplay itself is more along the lines of a standard FPS.  There are tons of guns you can get from drops (really eliminating any need to ever buy them from a vendor) and there are tons of bad guys to kill.  You level up in the game in the say way you would with say WoW, by receiving XP from the mobs you kill and the quests you turn in.  As you level up, you're given stat points to use in a stat tree (also very similar to WoW).  There are four different classes you can play and for each class there's three different stat tree routes you can take (my toon right now is a hunter class, with a sniper skill tree).  You can either play SP or co-op, but both essentially apply to the same game, they aren't separate.  Say you start out playing SP and work your way up to level 5 and then the next day find some friends to play with.  Any quests/loot/money/XP you receive while playing co-op with friends applies to the exact same game as SP.  They're one in the same, you just have the option of playing alone or playing with others.

The co-op play doesn't care what level you are either.  You could be a level 5 playing with level 15 friends.  The advantage of this is that it's very easy to power level because your higher level friends are capable of beating higher level enemies and you get more XP for killing mobs who are higher levels then you.

I hope that gives a better understanding of the game for those that don't know very much about it.  Basically it's an FPS that plays like an RPG.  There are quests, tons of loot, tons of guns and tons of mobs whose heads are just waiting to be blown off by your sniper rifle. Smile

Ill be getting it tomorrow. Thanks for the little mini explanation there haha ive ben kinda puzzled what its all about and if it looks any good.
Meagan

I went to pick it up yesterday but of course it was sold out. -_- Looks awesome though.

If anyone gets it and wants to co-op, add me.  Most of my gaming friends are dudes, so it would nice to get a little all female co-op going on.
Kat_Edw

Ill add you in advance i guess. If you dont mind.

Go for it! Smile

I got this for the PC... Do you know if you can do any cross over between Xbox and PC players? Or are they separate?

It's separate.  I think there's only one game out there right now that does cross platform play, otherwise there's nothing...which is really unfortunate.

Cross platform play is the one thing I really, really, really want from the gaming industry right now, but it's so difficult to pull off because the PC gamers have such an advantage over console gamers.
Kat_Edw

I agree. Wouldnt it be cool? I have so many friends who refuse to buy a console haha. Theres just no comparison between the accuracy of a mouse to a controller though. Especially on games like COD  Sad

I feel the same way.  If there was cross platform action, I'd definitely play more PC games.  The main reason I bought a 360 was to play with friends (although now that I have it I love it for so many more reasons then just gaming).  I've gotten used to the gamepad, but I still miss my mouse and keyboard.

The reason that PC players have an advantage is the main reason I PLAY it on the PC. I feel I have so much more control, that I just can't play it on the XBox. (Though the fact that my Xbox is currently RROD doesn't really help either.)

Oh yea, definitely agreed.  The keyboard and mouse trumps the gamepad any day.  I've gotten used to the gamepad, but I'm most definitely no pro at it.

I gotta say i was originally a console girl until sof2 really got me into pc gaming so it took me a while to like the mouse and keyboard. Now, though, i find it harder to play with a controller haha. Especially when people are behind me in an fps.
Caelrin

Yeah turning around in an FPS on a controller is really hard, especially when you need to do it fast and accurately. It just doesnt happen (At least for me anyways)

I do have to admit, there are some games that are just more fun on console, but FPS's just can't fit under it. Really, I think most things were you have to navigate in a 3D space are just difficult for console to do well.
Kat_Edw

I agree. Halo pulls it off well but my feelings about halo recently arent all that positive. I loved COD4 PC but god i was bad at it on xbox. Really makes a difference.

Ok but i just got back off my xbox after a few hrs of playing borderlands. Taking a break haha its a really nice game. A lot better than i thought it would be. Its lack of coverage made me afraid it would be kinda empty but its seeming pretty together.
Mercy Medical

I'm really not sure why the game didn't get much coverage to begin with.  I assume it's because it's a brand new title getting released with a lot of other sequels to well established titles (ie, COD4 & L4D2).  I first got turned onto it via PC Gamer Magazine as it was their feature article one month back in late spring/early summer.

I feel like it's going to become a sleeper hit, possibly sort of in the same realm as Bioshock.  I don't remember hearing a lot about that game, then it came out and everyone was raving about it.
Kat_Edw

Yea i spose youre right. Didnt really seem to have much chance with all the hype being tossed around. What surprises me though is how it didnt get lost in all of it. A lot of people were really eager to play it. There seems to be a lot of upcoming games people mention recently and im like huh? what game is that? I cant put the name to the game no matter how many times ive seen trailers and reviews. This was one of those to me for a while. Sorta got lost in the sea of crappy poo games because of its lack of enthusiastic coverage.

Either way. Its good  Very Happy  AH yea.
