Come play with us.This forum's description says it covers tabletop games, so this seems like as good a place as any to post this.
A couple of us are trying to start up an online "tabletop" game. We haven't decided on a system yet. Dungeons & Dragons (3rd or 3.5 Edition) or D20 Modern would be easiest, but we could probably figure out a way to make other systems work if that's what the group wants.
If you're interested, sign up here and also let us know if you have Dungeon Mastering skills.

I don't master D&D... I just wanted to know more about the universe. Fantasy?
|
Foxy Brown

Yes, Dungeons & Dragons is fantasy.
D20 Modern has optional fantasy elements.

Thank you but I used to be a D&D player. Actually, by "system" I understood rules, not rules and universe. I may be wrong (I don't care, really) but that's why I asked what would be your RPG's universe.

We haven't decided yet.
Personally, I'm open to any system and setting the group wants.

I've never played D&D before but am quite interested, so if you have any space to squeeze in a noob. Except... maybe not right now since the semester is getting busier again. Oh well. :S

Same, I've always wanted to see what all the hub bub was about I'm up for it, or maybe is there an option to observe and see what it's all about?

If we play Dungeons & Dragons or D20 Modern, we'll most likely use Fantasy Grounds.

you still haven't told us how you plan on making it online... it seems like quite the undertaking but I could be down

Fantasy Grounds is a program that would let it be played online.

I'm rather fond of tabletop RPGs myself, but D&D3.x and D20 Modern sour my stomach, to put it gently (I'm a ze4lot).
D&D4E (still waiting for my FRPG and Adventurer's Vault to get here) and Mutants and Masterminds 2E are both systems I know and favour. GURPS isn't my favourite system, but I'll play it. I'm intrigued by what I've heard about 7th Sea, but that refers to the old-fashioned roll-and-keep system instead of the newer d20-compatible version. I'd probably be open to other systems (nWoD, Scion, Grimm, PDQ, BESM, whatever), too.
I don't have any meaningful GMing experience. I've been considering trying one of these days if I could find a crowd gentle enough (I ordinarily hang out on Something Awful, which is a rougher crowd and not a place I'm certain I want to take my baby steps GMing-wise), but I'd probably swing towards D&D4E for its GM-friendly design in that case. I could share some rough ideas for campaigns I've had in my head, but I'm not sure how many I'd actually be able to follow through on.
Time-wise, I'm GMT -6, but I'm available pretty much whenever.

In the interests of maybe applying some No-Doz to this thread, I'll dump out a couple of ideas I've had in my head.
One, a fairly straightforward D&D (4E) game. I can't really be counted upon for an epic story or anything, but you'll get to slay the dragon, rescue the princess, and leave with gold and true love! Or something like that. My approach to this might be "OK let's just go for some standard princess-rescuing or summat," or "Let's rip off Diablo and set the game in one town's corrupted church basement while you slaughter hordes of devils and demons and undead (and probably angels too) and stuff," or "Everyone playing tells me something about where their character is from and where they're going and I cobble together a story from their hopes and dreams." Point buy would be between 22 and 28--22 is usually good if you do what the game expects you to do and minmax decently, but I might crank it up a little with the expectation that the extra points I give are going to be put into less "optimal" places or used to soothe some classes' relative MAD.
Two, a vigilante game. Probably Mutants and Masterminds 2E, because I'm familiar with it and it can accomodate badass action-hero vigilante stuff all right (it's a superhero system, and that genre has a fair amount of overlap with, well, vigilantes given the presence of characters like Batman and The Punisher). I'm thinking this one would be more player-driven, given that as vigilantes, you decide who you're targeting and what you're doing to them--in this way, it could be either a relatively tame game where you target robbers and leave them tied up for the cops to find, or it could be a darker one where you target violent offenders, sexual predators, bloodthirsty gangs, and corrupt cops and kill them. Power level could range from PL5 (you're decidedly above-average, but you're not superheroes, and ordinary bad guys with guns, while something you're qualified to handle, are a real threat and not something to be taken lightly) to PL10 (you're Batman and could be taking on honest-to-goodness supervillains).
I'll admit I tend to have a preference for at least somewhat serious games, though that should not be taken to mean doom-and-gloom emo stuff (dark is one thing, but I prefer the "light at the end of the tunnel" variety--your struggle is not hopeless, even if it may seem that way at times; that's why you're heroes in a game).

I'd be up for some rpg fun.
Thing is, I moved away from D&D while it was still 2nd ed to go over to some WhiteWolf and then to the Unisystem games, so I would need a refresher.
I'm not sure about the two programs mentioned, but if you would need a voice chat program, I have a vent server that could be used that is Mac compatible.
My best times would probably be on Sundays, as I have work/wow/other during the week and evenings.

We should probably get everyone who's interested to gather together in some sort of chat situation to discuss the matter.

A wonderful idea. Now that we have enough people, perhaps we could get together.
I am available pretty much every day, from 7pm-6am GMT(I know people are here from all over, so I figure I should put time in a standard format)
What is everyone elses availabilities? &preference for chat program?

I vote ventrillo, b/c I want to get more use out of my server It has a normal chat function as well as voice if you have a mic
Also, I don't use yahoo, aim, msn or icq

I vote AIM or IRC.

The medium should probably depend upon the campaign. To use the two systems I've suggested as examples, Dungeons and Dragons is fairly map-intensive and so should really be run in a medium that supports a map (like OpenRPG, Maptools, or play-by-post), whereas Mutants and Masterminds is slightly more forgiving but a map is still helpful (especially for things like adjudicating Takedown Attacks, AoEs, or cover).
That said, I'll throw my hat into the ring for play-by-post, because it works with anything and doesn't require a singular time to meet.
|

Truth be told, I could get behind play by post, but it makes me afraid of an unstable campiagn. When there is not a structure like every thursday @7pm GMT, people might only show when its convenient, and pretty soon it dwindles into nothingness.
so, play by post is good if there is some structure.

Whoops.
Sure, I've got AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and Ventrilo (if you don't mind me having a fugly voice). I don't have Skype but could probably download it.
EDIT: AIM does, in fact, have a chat room function. Also the "posts start dwindling until the game dies" danger with play-by-post is too true; it's happened to some games I was really digging.

I have no microphone, so voice chat involving me isn't going to happen.
