Critique please.I'm just curious as to what your opinions would be on this piece.
It's just a scrap painting I did in about 15-20 min. And the pic is sideways. The those three prong looking things are the top of the painting. Done in oil on canvas pad sheet. Tacked to a wall. |

I keep looking at it, and I don't really understand why you need the "prong" part to be the top. The background: Light/dark balanced, and it it looks good. The colours work well together and it is easy on the eyes. The front: Um... Personally, I don't like it. I don't know if he photo distorts it and makes it look less then it is, but, it looks more detrimental to the whole image then complimentary. It also looks like it was done in a hurry... I wish it would have been done in a more classy fashion. It could really have stood out as a element on it's own. Total look: My eyes wants to look beyond the doodle... Like there is an unwanted branch in the way of a beautiful sunset. It looks like you wanted it to be see-through to make it more "connected" to the background. I could have accepted that if you had something else, making all three layers (background, middle ground and fore ground). As it is now, it looks incomplete. That is my personal opinion anyways. I am quite aware that I couldn't have done it any better myself, so I'm not saying you didn't do a good job, I just think it's lacking. Good luck with your future projects. |

Most of the "doodle" flows from left to right (as seen, top to bottom) but there's that one curl that goes against the flow. Makes it feel weird, un-natural.
But personally I like motion, so idk. At any rate: here's Georgia O'Keeffe:

Almost every Georgia O'Keeffe painting is some variation on the theme of flowers that look like vaginas. |

Ah, yes... Then it was the painters intent and not just my insane mind that created that. *smirks* Oh well, I guess that is her little thing... But I must say, it doesn't really look good in my opinion. It would have been fun to give to the in-laws, or someone who doesn't really get it, as a present and be all eager about them hanging it up on their wall. That would have been great.

My mum got us a Georgia O'Keeffe calendar once. Dunno why - she knew exactly what it was. It was actually up on the wall in the hall for a whole year. My dad took a while to work out why we kept sniggering about it.
But this is really Bidden-Oblivion's thread. I don't know how to analyse art, but I think your picture's nice to look at. Pretty colours, like sunbeams. Looks a bit like a person running. I realise this is probably unhelpful and might sound patronising, but it really isn't meant to. Like I said, I'm very much not an expert. |

Thanks for all the feedback folks, I appreciate it. It really is just a scrap painting that I feel kinda blah about and it was done pretty quick. Just had the urge to paint something, ick or not  . I may soon put up images that I've put more effort into. There's a a couple of things or so on my DA accounts if you want to check those out.
