Do we all have to love The L Word?I could never get around watching all seasons. I did my best, I swear, but it's just soooo much drama llama that I'd rather watch it on MUTE - so I get to see all the girl-on-girl action without having to put up with the drama. And whenever I say that, lesbians glare at me as if not caring for this TV Show is just as bad as popping hamsters in the microwave for fun.
Also, I've never met another lesbian who shares my thoughts on this one. All the lesbians I know are crazy about it/won't miss one episode. And I'm quite sure that my ex got our matching tattoos idea from the whole Shane/Carmen thing. Surely I recognize that The L Word is important, since it's a show that deals with lesbian relationships on the telly and all that jazz, but acknowledging it's importance is far from being the same as wetting myself just because the latest season is out.
Should I really lose my lesbian membership card? Anyone out there who doesn't care for the show too?

nah, i don't think it's a MUST. really, i watch it BECAUSE it's like a train wreck with all the Drama(tm) being flung around like it's going out of style but i felt like Ex's and Oh's was a bit more my style just because they allowed themselves to have more fun and humor rather than just dramadramadrama all the time.
actually, now that i think about it, i don't think i've watched more than the first episode of the most recent series. i just got such a bad vibe off the first episode as far as poor writing and pacing that it got put on the waaaaaaaaaaaay far back burner. i suppose i'll get to it eventually but meh, i'm in no super rush. :3

Never seen it, and can definitely live without it. I guess a lot of lesbians love it because there aren't many lesbian shows. I know I watch pretty much every lesbian movie that comes out, like, just because. And they almost always suck. Meh.

Ehehe I tried to watch it...sort of... It just never got me in it's grip that I HAD to see more. All the drama isn't really my thing lol and I was trying to watch it because of the lesbians loooool. Ah well I gave up a while ago, maybe one day I shall return...

But yeah, in terms of watching it, I've seen the first series, bits of the second (cause i was travelling) and then nothing since cause it was canned in Oz.
I'll buy it off ebay soonish, I really want to see it. But not in a mad super rush.

I never got into liking something just because every (or close to) other lesbian liked it. In fact, I tend to balk at most popular culture. I've always thought of myself as more of a geek than a lesbian, though, so my opinion probably doesn't stand for much 
I watched the first season when it was shown here, but didn't really like it. So much drama and angst! Ugh. I loathe shows like that. That they are lesbians creating the drama doesn't make it any less painful for me.
So where do I hand in my card?

Eep I was thinking about watching it a long time ago (because I just heard of it a while ago....yeah, I'm slow...) but now I hear all this negative feedback. XD I don't think I'll look into this for a while now. I mean, I don't like lesbians who are always feeling sorry for themselves, blah blah. Is that the kind of drama you're talking about?

The L Word has a lot of problematic content in it. There's a lot of biphobia and transphobia, for example. They also kill off perfectly great characters, but keep only the most annoying and irritating ones.
I still watch it and buy all the DVDs though. >_<

i actually had no idea the l word was around until halfway through season two when i was told to watch season one. i did, it was ok. i watched a few episodes of season two. and now i only watch episodes of the l word when it happens to be on when i'm at someone's house.
honestly, it didn't grip me like battlestar or weeds and i definitely am not upset at the end of the episode because i have to wait a week to watch another one.
i also haven't seen torchwood and i've only seen a couple episodes of queer as folk.

I love the L-Word because it deals with real situations that we could be faced with. There are certain characters that I wish would leave...like Jenny and characters I wish would stay like Dana..!
All in all an awesome show. I am looking forward to see what the final season brings

i agree! i thought the show was okay when it came out... i mean- who DOESN'T want to see hot lesbian action? but as the seasons go on, it's just endless lezzie drama.. one after another.
As soon as one couple figures out their problems and can get along, one of them goes and sleeps with someone else or etc BS.
I think the show really lost it after.. say season 3 or so. it's just the same BS we can experience in real life honestly... LMAO!

shows with the majority of the casts are good looking women and includes lots of nudity and simulated "lesbian" sex scenes should be more prevalent in american tv shows and commercials. it is always better to look at good looking women whether they be heteros or homos. i will sell my kidneys for cash to help such shows stay on the air or be greenlit. the plot should never be a factor in such shows. just put a lot of hot women who likes to make out with other hot women while they're naked and do it for 1hr or more. there shouldn't be anything more to it.
