Finished Mass Effect - Spoiler Free

I just wanted to share my joy at finishing Mass Effect last night. Ya know I posted about this at my main forum and the response was dire. There is nothing worse than being totally excited and happy about something only to have other people show no love for that fact lol ...So pathetically I've limped over here to say 'I finished Mass Effect' and it was an awesome gaming experience.

I hope that if a few of you get it we can actually chat about it in here... or even if you don't have it but want to chat about it. I don't mind.

Ooooooooo looks like this might be a slow burner as people pick up their copies this week. Looking forward to hearing what people have to say about this one.
vou

Nice one, I'm always over the moon whenever I clock a game!! But it usually means i hardly play them anymore unless they're like gta, mario, sonic or something lol nice though Cool

mass effect

so i rented a copy of mass effect last night.....spent most of my time customizing my character and talking to people on the ship....though i want to redo my character and start over.....i feel like i am not getting something....i died pretty quickly....and was huffy b/c i was expecting it to be a little bt more like halo....i was having trouble shooting whatever was shooting at me.....so that rocks you beat it! how long did it take you???? i def want to give it another shot! i am thinking perhaps when i stroll in from work at midnight tonight.....or friday i may give it another whirl! any suggestions....like picking your characters personality and weapon stuff? and can you name some other games the controls are similar too? i dunno why i am caught up in the controls of games...it will make it or break it for me! but the game looks neat from what i saw
GirlyG

It takes a while to get into it because there's no tutorial really, but stick with it and when it all falls into place you will begin to see what makes this game so cool. It took me a few hours to 'get it', probably around 5?. To finish it without doing EVERYTHING, but also without rushing through took about 20 hours.

I just thought the controls were similar to most third person titles, like GRAW and those. For levelling up, don't worry about it too much at first, then spend your experience on things you think you'll use the most, I was a soldier so for me it was all the weapons skills. Also don't forget to level up your team when you get them and check you all have the best possible armor and weapon. I didn't realise how to do that until I was like 10 hours in!!! lol.
kerrigan

I love this game so much! I've played for like 26 hours but am only like halfway done. I'm one of those people who has to do everything. On top of that, I just always play games very slowly and cautiously--I really hate dying.

Mass Effect isn't really like Halo at all; it's very much an rpg. I use the in combat pause all the time to micro-manage my party's abilities and whatnot. Also, I'm playing as a biotics speceialist, so I don't do much running and gunning anyway. And yeah, since it's an rpg, you have to manage your inventory and make sure you have all the proper stuff equipped (armor-piercing ammunition for mechanical enemies instead of anti-personal ammo).
GirlyG

Yay!!!
Glad you're feeling the Mass Effect love Kerrigan. I'm totally stunned more grrls aren't playing this game to death given the cool dykey commander.

I'm going to play it through again I think and be a total bitch to see how it differs (I was really nice the first time through).

How are the biotics? I never used them, I think I might do that as well next time I play through.
kerrigan

The biotic powers are so much fun to use! It's just so satisfying to set enemies off flying all over the battlefield. Once you get powered up and get your prestige class, you're pretty much unstoppable. The only real weakness biotics have is against enemies that are in fixed positions like turrets or enemies that float of their own power like drones; you can't use 3 of your main powers (lift, throw or singularity) to their full effects against those enemies. Fortunately, I haven't found myself in that situation too often.

You have to use the quick-pause feature a lot more if you specialize in tech or biotics to select what powers you're going to use, but since I'm more of an rpg than fps gamer, that doesn't bother me at all. I've actually started using a party with two biotics and one techy and haven't had any problems.

I always play through nice the first time; I have such a hard time be evil in video games. I don't know why; I have no problem being evil in real life.

I was planning on playing some sort of tech class next, but how was playing playing a combat class? The only weapon I've even had a chance to use is the pistol; do the others handle very differently?

i totally pre-ordered the game and picked it up the day it came out...and was immediately sidetracked by rockband. i popped in the game yesterday and i have to say it ate up my entire sunday afternoon/evening/early monday morning. i finally got off the citadel, but i finished up all the sidequests within. i can't just leave stuff like that hanging. plus i put a ton of points into intimidation and have been bullying people around.

i already LOVE this game. LOOOOVE. it's definitely one i will be playing through multiple times. characters, storyline, dialogue...all great so far. it took me a while to figure out where all the inventory was which was a bit frustrating...and driving the vehicle once you touched down on a planet. like whoa.

unfortunately i have two weeks of school left (complete with tests and papers) and then finals...so this might sit around for a while...

I'm in the same situation. Fortunately, I can't afford Rock Band, so there will be no other games distracting me from Mass Effect once my schedule opens up a bit (at least I'm able to put a positive spin on lack of money).[/i]
Katin

LOL. good call. i am kind of impulsive when it comes to buying games so i have a bunch sitting around collecting dust. a few of them have never made it inside my xbox... Sad

it just makes me think i need to play more, when in reality... Wink

actually, the strum bar on my rock band guitar is going out...and i messed up the green drum pad so i have to ship them in for a replacement. at which point i will play some other games to occupy time and space.
GirlyG

Hey guys,
really great to have people to bounce things off re Mass Effect!! I definitely need to play it through again and go the biotics route... also the nasty route since I was nice to everyone the first time. I'd like to see if being mean makes a huge difference or not.

Who are your favorite team members? (if you've gotten that far). Also a slight hint, don't mess up the Paramour Acheivement like I did!! Make sure you talk to a certain someone on the ship whenever she's not feeling well lol DAMN I can't believe I messed that up!

Agree about the vehicle control, it was the one thing in the game that just felt a little too clunky. Re Weapons, I don't think they felt overly different to be honest, other than recoil perhaps, obviously the damage differed a fair bit and the sniper rifle was insane!!!

As games go though the female characters in Mass Effect kicked ass. I haven't felt that loved up by a lead character since Heavenly Sword on the PS3 lol
Katin

i really want to get a lot further into the game but i also need to finish school at some point in my life. LOL.

the biotics are pretty neat. i was told by a friend the 'singularity' is pretty neat and i want to try it out. Smile

so far my favorite team members to run around with are tali and kaiden. i will probably play through again using different folks as the staple of my team.

i always play through the first time around as the wreckless badass. maybe because in most games you're forced to play the good one and it's just fun to ignore most rules and end up shooting people just because you feel like it. haha.

i will def make sure to work on that paramour achievement. so much buzz about it!
kerrigan

So the sniper rifle is really cool...I think I'll play through as an Infiltrator next time then.

The best team I've found to run around with is Liara and Tali, so I don't ever take a combat specialist with me. It's an extremely biotics heavy team (singularity really does kick ass), but it suits the way I play. I'll probably go for more balance when I play an Infiltrator so I can send the rest of my group forward as meat shields Twisted Evil .

Of course Liara is my favorite character to talk to, but I'm a little biased there. I really like Tali's character; she's probably my favorite and has lots of funny things to add to conversations. I like Kaiden a lot too, maybe I'll play through as straight some day...

I was just confronted by Kaiden and Liara and forced to choose between them (easy choice), so I guess I'm on the right track with the romance. I didn't mean to lead Kaiden on, but all the other options just sounded too mean. Oh well.

Hi there,

i can totally relate to the desire of sharing the enthusiasm for a good game ! I finished Mass Effect last night and it was great ! Especially the Ending ! A very nice conclusion, some interesting choices to make and ofcourse the romance plot reaching its peak right before the final mission. The "sex-scene" is short, but i liked it ! I didn't watch it when it was posted here and on other sites. Didn't want to spoil it for me Smile

As for my choices, from about 1/3 of thed game onwards i was always with Liara and Tali. I liked those two characters a lot. I didn't like Ashley, Kaidan was nice but a bit boring, Wrex was fun and Garrus was ok.

I would have liked to have a bit more fleshed out relationship with Liara. And i would have liked to see Tali's Flotilla Homeworld and maybe get a glimpse of what she looks like under that Helmet Wink Well, since it's supposed to be a trilogy, we'll see what the next intallments will look like. Maybe there even will be an expansion.

All in all a very good Game with some room for improvement, but still one of the best there is out there right now. And again, since some people seem a bit confused about it: This is NOT a shooter ! Bioware is making Role Playing Games like KOTOR, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights, etc. and nothing else ! You need time and patience and a love for good storytelling and interesting characters. If you are looking for a fast paced action game then this is not the right thing for you.

Would like to know how some people decided during the game (You can't save 'em all), but then it wouldn't be spoiler free anymore ...

And lust but not least a snapshot of my Avatar from the game:)

I agree that Bioware makes very good role-playing games.  I have several for the Mac.

Mass Effect is a great RPG for female gamers, especially lesbian gamers! BioWare knows how to create strong, intelligent female characters... whether PC or NPC.

I've played through 5 times, on my 6th now to earn more achievements. I hope to get good enough to playthrough on Insanity. LOL

My forum AV is an in-game screenshot of my Commander Shepard PC. Best face I've ever created.

Send an invite if you want to hook up on XLive. I'm on most nights (pacific time). GTag: FyreHawk711

I haven't yet played Halo 3... should I?

I'm gonna go curl up with my Elite now... cheers!

Biotics are cool! Especially Lift, Singularity and Neural Shock.

I've played both Paragon and Renegade, and mixes of both. I enjoy Renegading the males, and Paragoning the females. Choice!
