Game Developers Conference, LGBT Panel

Not sure if this goes here...
---
Game Developers Conference, GDC for short, is exactly what the title says.
A chance to meet game developers, talk tech, shoot the moon and network your butt off.

This year they have a 2 day long panel for all LBGT developers, students and such to chat.
here is the description.

Quote:

Speaking out: Expanding the LGBT Development Community
Speaker: Jeb Havens (Designer, EA / Maxis)
Date/Time: TBD
Track: Business and Management
Secondary Track: Production
Experience Level: All

Session Description

Developers, HR professionals, students, managers, press, academics, and even straight people are welcome to attend this year's IGDA roundtable addressing the LGBT game development community. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals work in every aspect of the video game community. Game publishers are increasingly exploring ways to integrate gender and sexual identity into games. Online communities of "Gay Gamers" are expanding, connecting, and starting to form a growing voice in the video game market. A clearer LGBT development community presence is needed to responsibly address the issues of gender identity and sexual orientation as they relate to the games we make and the people who make them. This is a safe space to share your experiences and ideas, as well as make some new friends, as we discuss topics important to the LGBT development community. What are the benefits and responsibilities of being out at work? How can companies best handle their LGBT employees? How can we best respond to relevant issues as they arise, such as LGBT guilds and gay marriage in MMOs, explicit and "hidden" gay content, and homophobia in online communities?

Idea Takeaway
Participants will leave with a clear idea of the major issues important to the LGBT developer community, and with recommended ways to begin addressing these issues.

Intended Audience
Developers, human resource professionals, students, managers, academics, and anyone interested in the issues of gender identity and sexual orientation as they relate to the present and future of the video game industry. Also, anyone wanting to hear where and when the party is going to be.

This is ideal for any one LGBT or otherwise, to chat with the LGBT gaming community.

I would KILL, sell my soul, anything to go to this. But sadly the tickets for all GDC, is around 1K-2K.
It is being held in San Fran this year.

Here are the other panels/lectures/events.

I am so glad they are finally addressing the LGBT community in this conference. They have covered sex in video games, which is hosted by one of my professors,.  This is exactly what I want to strive for when I get into the industry. To break the homophobia and help the gaming world be a bit more accepting.

I'm probably going to attend if my schedule isn't too busy.

I've been wanting to go there (mainly to listen to Earnest Adams), and seeing this makes me want it even more, but since I live in Finland, there's no way it's not gonna work out.

Anyway, if someone goes there, please tell as all about it.

I'd be interested in what the gaming companies have to say about LGBT folk as well.  I know I'd have an earful of questions for them.   Laughing

that is so f-ing awesome!!!!! it's about time. and, you can see the driving force for any attention that is paid: growing market share.

LG helps tremendously because we have a place to network, and grow our market share. game developers are finally taking notice. yay!
