gamer vrs...not?so i was thinking mostly in my eternal rantyness. that me personally didnt think that someone who just plays sports games, or just plays shotters as really a "gamer"
mostly it just makes me angry when they call anyone who plays more a nerd...gr
but does that apply when we're say talking people who just play rpgs and nothing else? or MMO's or whatever?

IDK it's like, is someone who ONLY watches Basketball a "sports fan"? Is someone who ONLY watches lakers during the playoffs a Lakers fan? If you only care about Jeeps and 4x4 from 41-79 are you a car person?
Personally I think a gamer is someone who plays a variety of games, whereas people who stick to subgenres specifically would be a "fps gamer' or "mmo gamer" etc.

Tough call... I mean, if someone only plays fps, but they're totally into to fps, then like Thefremen says, I'd consider them a "fps gamer" or whatever.
This is kind of like the casual vs. hardcore gamer argument. This is kind of where labels get tedious... But I will say, if they're really into a genre, they deserve to be called a "gamer"

I dont believe it matters. whatever category of game you play its just a gamer. You can just play 1 game over an over and say im a gamer. Its just what you think you are and what others think.
Basically anyone who games is just a gamer.
Its like those who get payed to game are like master gamers is what most call it. But, in reality gamers are people who just game anything in general.

I think it's simply a fact 'I play games, therefore I consider myself a gamer'. I don't think it matters that they are mostly RPGs and they take up all of my waking hours But that's just P.C games, including Dreamfall, Dungeon siege, Spellforce and others. I do have some FPS too, like L4D, but mostly I consider myself a gamer who mainly enjoys RPG's on P.C
On console it looks a bit more action adventure, with games like Hello Kitty: Roller rescue, Endless ocean, Resident evil (different ones), My Sims kingdom, and then a bunch of other RPGs/action adventures. I'm a gamer, that's why I come here. It's one of my main interests in life, gaming.

woot! i go back and forth mostly because i disagree with both extremes that i've encountered. people who think that if video games dont take over you rlife your not a gamer, but i also hate the assholes who call someone a nerd ( not in a nice way)if they play more than FPS, racing or sports games. i guess i'm just too angry bout it ha ha, but i think that to a certain extent if you like any kind of video games you get to be a "gamer" even if it more main stream than when most of us probably got into it at first.

I would totally ignore people who say that. They're just ignorant. But the people who say "if video games don't take over your life you're not a gamer" are just getting into hardcore vs casual gamers.
again, this is why labels are annoying.

but labels making everything easier! how else could i catagorize and sterotype people w/o labels?

i win. but on the other side labels sometimes help people feel like they belong. honestly there not alwasy bad but people do have a nasty tendancy to make it all the see about a person.

Well I'm sorry but the pornographic image of someone with a name punch with lots of labels that she's reeled off, and what she's doing with them.. it's shorted my brain out. oh my gosh. See what you did?
And btw.. that's just wroooong... doing that... with those. I mean, look in my ear and you'll see it in there, projected on the inside my skull by a little, perverted gnome with a projector. I think she needs professional help.

hmmm well i would say if you're hardcore into playing video games of any genre then you are a 'gamer'
but that said I've had girls call me a gamer just because I own a video game system... but well I don't consider myself hardcore, I play when I have free time and enjoy it when I'm playing - like any hobby
so I think it's all pretty subjective when it comes from people who don't play, but probably means more coming from a gamer themselves because they can actually gauge your obsession lol
