Games JournalistHello =)
I wasn't really sure where to put this but as it includes the topic of journalistic writing I thought here would be fairly suitable. I'm basically looking for some advice. I frequent quite a few forums but I thought this would be the best place to put this topic as a lot of the members here are actually involved in the games industry so may be able to help me even further.
Okay, well, I live in England, and I've recently left college. I took A-Levels in Sociology, English and Psychology. I've always been interested in writing and I even wrote an article earlier this year and got published in DIVA (lesbian and bisexual interest magazine). I've also always been interested in games, no surprise there hence the forum I'm on! But as I've gotten older I've been very interested in the actual gaming industry. Like certain developers, E3, journalistic pieces etc. Just how it works, basically.
I don't plan to go to University and if I do it won't be until I'm older. However, I would absolutely love to be a games journalist. It involves two of my greatest passions; games and writing. I know what the job title would involve and the pressures of it but I have no idea how to even start attempting to get into the field. This is where I need some help. Where do I start? Do I contact some websites, like IGN or Gamespot? Or perhaps some little websites? Which ones?
I honestly have no idea how to go about it and really need someone to point me in the right direction.
I was reading a FAQ on the subject and it said you didn't explicitly need a degree, is this true? I will have A-Levels, is that enough? And of course I am enthuiastic, and that counts for a lot.
If you have any information I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Hi! I was reading this book Paid to Play, and it goes a little in depth with different aspects of the video game industry and what you need to know, I know that Game Journalism is one of them.
It would be a good idea to have schooling in that field (Journalism) but maybe you can take some writing courses in the meantime? I guess it's also just good to keep writing, start a blog, and go from there, if you do meet anyone in the industry you'd have something to show them
Hope that helps!

Send me a PM. I know several games journalists who may be able to give you some advice and I'd be happy to put you into contact with one of them.
