Gaming in '09I recently read an article on C|Net.com, C|NET about 2009 being a dry year for gaming so I wanted to bring it to the forums and see what you guys thought.
Me, personally, I believe its too early to make that call and I believe its a bit subjective.
I understand that because '08 was such a huge year for gaming it would be hard to duplicate but that doesn't mean it'll be dry... that's too extreme. I believe it'll be good year. [/url]

Nope I don't think this year will be really any different than any other year.
It takes time & money to start, continue, and finish out a project in this case a new game title.
It can easily take over a year or more to create, program, beta-test, and then market. Even before the economic down turn there has been plenty of games that have already been in the works.
As for me I looking forwards to .....
FFXIII will be coming out this year, and I am definitely looking forwards to that.

Hmm... well now that I think about it, there aren't too many games I'm anticipating (that I can think of). I have my fingers crossed for Heavy Rain this year, and definitely BioShock 2.
I'm still not counting 09 out. I think it's kind of early, like whizkid said,

I completely disagree with thinking that 09 will be a dry year. In fact, I think it may be just as big, if not bigger, than 07 and 08. There's plenty of the "killer ap" titles that are definitely day one purchases for me. I'm pretty much covered for every genre this year:
Street Fighter IV
Heavy Rain
Resident Evil 5
Killzone 2 (I don't care what people say, I loved the first one)
Fear 2: Project Origin
Madworld
The Godfather II
White Knight Chronicles
Yakuza 3
Infamous
Prototype
Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena
Fat Princess
King of Fighters XII
Mini Ninjas (it's a cute game and it's definitely on my radar, but nothing I'd hype)
And assuming that the following are releasing this year, or at least aiming for it:
Uncharted 2
God of War III
Bioshock 2
Alan Wake
FFXIII (at least in Japan)
And then in the handhelds department, we're looking at
LocoRoco 2
Resistance Retribution
Persona
Scribblenauts
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
Kingdom Hearts 368/2 Days
3rd Birthday (Parasite Eve)
Final Fantasy Dissidia
Now, of course I have no idea how many of these games will end up in quality, but I still have confidence that the share of sequels and original titles will bring another great year in gaming (three great years in a row ). But personally, I think the really earth shattering title to look forward to in all is by far Heavy Rain. Indigo Prophecy was great and Heavy Rain should be even greater.

I'd blindly buy any level 5 game any day . Layton, Jeanne D'arc, Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud are excellent games that are on par with/better than Square Enix's games, imo.

I've still got so many games I haven't played yet from last year, I think I'm set either way

Seriously, me too... I have so many games I haven't even played yet. A good new release every now and then will do just fine.

The Godfather II, Afro Samurai and GTA:IV The Lost and Damned are top on the list.

Ahhh. I thought I was the only one geared for Afro! I loved the series and now a game. Plus a movie on 1/25 I think. So great!
