For those that are finding the wait for the next chapter of "Girl Friends" unbearable, or are simply looking for a sweet yuri manga with steamy content, I thought I´d drop in and recommend "Hanjuku Joshi". The series tell the story of Yae, a teenage girl who hates her own girlishness; her cute face, her frilly hair, her large breasts, and her girlish sewing hobby. When she enrolls in a new school she meets tomboy Chitose, who doesn´t share Yaes dislike of herself, rather she likes all those things about Yae, and also tells her that Yae reminds her of her first love from kindergarten. Chitoses candid statement of being a lesbian takes Yae back a bit, but her complimenting leaves her feeling happy, and soon she realises she´s developing feelings for Chitose. Now, this would usually be the setup for a long and angstridden story of the main character gathering the courage to come out and admit her feelings, but in this story Yae and Chitose become a couple almost from the beginning, and the manga is about them exploring their new relationship, both emotionally and sexually (hence the steamy scenes). There´s a second story to the manga too, their classmate Mari has a secret relationship with their female teacher Ran, something Mari considers "just a bit of fun", she has a boyfriend as well, so she´s got things covered there, and Ran is just using her to vent the frustration she feels from seeing her best friend, whom she´s secretly in love with, getting married to somebody else. But Mari discovers that being with Ran gives her an emotional fulfillment that she doesn´t get from being with her boyfriend, but she also knows that Ran is in love with somebody else. So there you have it, a story with love, sex and angst, all the right ingredients for a yuri series.
