I would just be able to afford the phone, but the contracts that come with it are way to expensive for me! Its something like 38€ (about 58$) a month! 
But a friend of mine works with a telephonecompany and he'll get one to test it at home. So I'll get my chance to play around with it

As for the monthly plans, I haven't checked them out, but I currently pay about $45/mo so I'd be fine with ~$58/mo if that meant the internet in the palm of my hand.  I wouldn't be surprised if it was more though, I hear Canada has some of the highest cell phone rates.

while the GPS and the 3G technology is pretty awesome, i think one of the REALLY big ups about the new iPhone will be .mac changing to MobileMe. having the ability to change contacts and calendar dates on your phone and having it push that info to the 'cloud' so that it changes the info on your other machines (PC or Mac) is pretty awesome stuff. having the web apps and more space added to the original 10gbs is a pretty big plus too. i probably won't be able to get it the first week but maybe a few weeks after the launch. :3 | ||||||||

I know what you mean, AT&T just released the rate and pricing for the service plans. Sadly, people are not very happy about it. But the since the iPhone has been out, people have been giving Apple and AT&T a hard time with it. - to expensive - not the best service - not enough features BUT I look past all that!..hehe. I am a "tech savy"..and look forward to the "new" iPhone. -- nekonite, I am sure once you get your iPhone you will be happy with it! I agree mobile me looks amazing! Third party applications also look awesome. can't wait! |

I have had my Iphone 3G since launch day and I love it. I will not go back to my Crackberry Curve..LOL.
GPS- The GPS on this device is awesome, and Apple has announced that they are working on Turn by Turn navigation with its next firmware update! Very exciting! 3G Speed- Is awesome and holds up to what Steve Jobs said as "Approaching WiFi Speeds". Average page loads within 15-20 seconds, unlike the SLOW Edge network where I would wait up to minute for my page to load. Its awesome! Applications- Great start for the launch. The Applications is what will really make this phone shine. With the addition of games and the technology of the phone, very exciting to see what comes out next! so i decided to go for broke and got the black 16gb iPhone 4 days after the launch. whoo hoo! i wanted to wait until the crazy died down a bit but since it seemed like it was going to stick around for a bit (and i knew this because i WORK at the Apple Store), i decided 'what the heck, let's just get it now.' it's amazing, people are STILL lining up for them at ALL the Apple Stores in my area, some of the lines 100 strong!
yeah, the plans are pretty expensive, seeing as i'm paying $84.99 for mine. $39.99 for 450 minutes, $30 for the unlimited data and $15 for 1500 sms text messages. was debating going to $20 for unlimited but decided to wait to see how many msgs i actually send/receive in a month's time first. but hey, at least i got the $299 incentive pricing, right? n.n; so yeah, i'll back up everything that | Vitality | has said so far. i actually just came back from a trip to Reno, where i know NOTHING about where everything is, and every time my friend and i needed to get somewhere, we just googled the place on Safari, got the address or clicked on the Google map already provided on their website and BAM! instant directions to where we needed to go from the spot the car was currently at. too too cool i tell ya. and since the hotel didn't have wifi built into the rooms (wtf?! i saw a Motel 8 that said it had wifi but the supposedly fance Grand Sierra Resort didn't?! BS!) ), i ended up using the 3G network quite a bit and it works pretty awesome, even when you're still driving in the middle of the Sierra Mountains! the only thing is that using the 3G network will drain your battery a lot faster so i did end up getting an FM transmitter/charger for it when i was in my car and road tripping to/from Reno (which was at least a 5.5 hour trip).
speaking of car use, i REALLY wish there was a dock type fm transmitter/charger available but alas, there isn't yet. would've made it a lot easier to look at directions while driving (as i had no navigator other than myself) BUT the cool thing was i wasn't absolutely forced to switch my phone to airplane mode in order to use it, which meant i could still receive calls/messages while listening, and it does this cool thing of fading the music out if you receive something then once you've finished, it fades the music back in. it might seem silly but i found it to be cool and amusing. and i have been having fun with a lot of the free apps and eventually need to pick up SuperMonkeyBall and the rest. i did pick up BeatMaker but i have yet to really have a chance to play with it but i know one of the Creative gals at work is absolutely loving it and the fact that it works with loops she made in Logic. and since i work for Apple, i got a free MobileMe account and the Push is SO COOL! i probably don't utilize it as much as a business person would but it is totally spiffy. i love updating stuff in my phone, then checking my me.com contact book to see the changes on there, then getting home to check my contact book on my MBP. it's TOO COOL, i tell ya! i think they still have the deal where if you buy a phone, you get $30 off the $99 you'd normally pay for MobileMe, so you only pay $69 for the first year, or if you already HAVE a .mac/MobileMe account, then you only pay $69 to renew it for the upcoming year. definately look into it if you're constantly updating contacts or calendar events on your phone.
so yeah...lots of good stuff, tho it is on the pricey side, i will admit but with all the use i've gotten out of it, i really can't complain! |

Ohh I didn't know you worked for an Apple Store! That's awesome! I have always wanted to get a part time job at the Apple Store. The more I do research on Apple products and software, the more I want to buy a Mac computer.
I went to my local Apple Store to look at cases and a charging dock and I was surprised that they had some iPhone 3G's in stock. Very exciting things coming out in the near future for the iphone. I will have to agree with Nekonite, the iPhone has everything I need to keep me connected to the world around me. P.S Nekonite can you get me a discount on a Black Mac Book to match my 8Gig Black Iphone. hehehe...j/k... |

One analyst believes that Apple has hit the 3 million mark in iPhones sold in the first month since its debut.
"They are seeing unprecedented demand," says Cote, adding that there appears to be no signs of a let up yet. Cote, a former T-Mobile executive, has been extremely accurate with wireless predictions in the past. Apple had previously announced they had sold 1 million iPhone 3Gs in the first weekend of the launch but have provided no additional sales figures since that time. The analyst predicts that the demand may be so strong that it could affect Apple's expansion into other countries later this month. just amazing...can I say CHA-CHING! I should have bought stock...

as someone who's been selling them day after day after day, i wouldn't be surprised if that figure was accurate. it's been a month and we STILL get lines throughout the day for the phones in addition to all the college kids & business people getting their lap/desktops. i've heard that there are still lines at the other stores within a 50 mile radius of mine (which is the Palo Alto store that Steve likes to visit now and then XD) as well so yeah... i think it'll probably be at least another 2-3 weeks before things really slow down. i think it helped that we started giving out tickets that reserve a phone for a customer until 6pm that day so they don't have to wait in line the whole day.
depending on whether or not you're an AT&T/whatever the local provider is for the iPhone customer, i would say that your chances of getting the incentive/subsidized/advertised pricing of $199/$299 is actually BETTER if you're NOT already with AT&T/what have you. as far as buying the phone from an Apple Store, there are quite a few restrictions as to what we're allowed to do in regards to already established AT&T customers, and while there are a few ways to get around it, it can still be a bit of a frustrating experience for some. but yeah, apart from qualifying for the incentive pricing, there's also the possibility that AT&T will require you to pay a deposit fee. i actually got my first deposit transaction this past week and AT&T wanted the guy to pay $800, and i've heard that there have been even larger amounts before! so yeah, be wary of that... anyhow, the phone itself isn't too expensive if you do get the incentive pricing and you're not required to pay a deposit but the AT&T bill can be quite a shiner. i just paid my first bill actually, having picked the basic any time minute plan (450mins per month) for $69.99, which includes the unlimited data, then the $15 1500 SMS text messages per month plan, bring it to a total of $84.99, right? well yeah, that plus taxes and a few other fees they don't really tell ya about when you're signing up for the phone, actually making my first phone bill $180 instead... so yeah, it's not so much the phone but the phone BILL that kills most people if you ask me. if anything, just ask yourself whether you can keep up an $100+ phone bill per month.  i think after the initial payment, it does go down but it'll still be $100 something...
don't want to scare ya away or anything. it's a GREAT phone and i'm enjoying it immensely but it does take quite a bite out of my wallet. especially with me needing to buy a new car really soon... :/ |

I haven't any problems with my iphone, but I have been reading articles and posts that people are having "terrible" 3G reception and getting dropped calls like crazy!!.. I have complete faith in Apple and or AT&T to resolve the issue. Granted it is only the first month the phone has been out and there will be "bug and glitches" and what not to be fixed.
Despite all the bad news the iphone is getting, it is still selling like wildfires. I have never seen a mobile phone get this much spotlight and front page news. People want perfection from this awesome device and it is almost there! I think that's why its getting so much static from people who have 3G phones. I am hoping the next firmware update will fix the issue. |

as much as i love apple things, getting iphone 3g seems like a bad call and i've seen more than enough reasons out there not to... i find not being able to do a simple thing like copy and paste a major bug. and what's the fuss about having so many great apps if you can only run them one at a time? not to mention that iphone 3g nano should be out before xmas... hopefully with all those issues fixed.
