Kate Perry - I Kissed A Girl

(if you live under a rock and hasn't heard this song yet, here's the video)

so i'm not sure how i feel about this song. basically she says that she doesn't usually kisses girls but that particular night she felt encouraged thanks to alcohol, so she did it just for fun and she hopes her boyfriend doesn't make a fuss out of it.

somehow i think that might encourage straight girls to toy with us just because it's hip, it's trendy, because lady in the song said so.

on the other hand it raises awareness, and by saying "it's okay to kiss girls" it can help a lot of closeted ones to finally get out of denial and be happy. so that's the positive side i reckon.

what do you guys think?

yeah, well.. that's why i said i didn't like it at first... if there's one thing we don't need is straight girls using us. never ends well.

i really hated this song actually, but then my friend brought up the whole awareness thing, and somehow i think she's got a point. she said that the first time she kissed a girl was after she saw it being done on telly - it was the first lesbian kiss ever aired on british tv, the program isn't on anymore but it was similar to east enders. anyway, she reckons that lots of girls who are lesbians will be encouraged by a song like this, it'll make it okay. so that's what got me not hating the song, but still....

I got excited when I first heard about this song, but then when I actually heard it, I felt great disappointment. Foxy Brown hit the nail on the head. I feel pathetic saying this but I felt a bit hurt by the lyrics. XP

I'll have to listen to the other "I kissed a girl" song, as it seems it might be less...annoying to listen to.

(though I must admit the beat was kind of catchy...)

Pretty typical stuff, it exploits the male fantasy of Girl on Girl kissing that still has them involved at some point.

Oh wow, hadnt heard the song till this post (i dont listen to commercial radio). What a slap in the face! I think this would promote girls to kiss other girls purely for the reason of turning on the boyfriends rather than enticing closeted girls to come out....

Lolz, yeah, Jill Sobules song was out at the time i was still figuring everything out. I'd be in the car with my mum and brother driving home from school and this song would come on n i'd get all hot n bothered heheh.

is it me or did the line up for this Warped Tour kinda suck ass this year? i think a lot of the good bands were out touring on their own this year... i find it funny she got booed tho. XD

anyways, bleh...this song. it's basically saying she did it on a lark while intoxicated and she didn't even like the girl herself. i bet the girl was probably straight as a board and just as intoxicated too. Razz personally, i can't give the song any merit at all, even for the beat. it's your typical 'i can make this on GarageBand/Logic' type of regurgitated beat you find in most pop music these days. it may send a message of 'it's okay for girls to kiss one another' but it's far to capricious in nature to be a positive message for lesbians if you ask me.

Indeed. I don't listen to a lot of english music so I wouldn't know about bands and what sounds generic and what-not. ^^;

I also agree that while it sort of says kissing is ok, it still sends that message "as long as you're straight in the end". as soon as I heard the word "boyfriend" I knew it wouldn't end well.

i was @ g-a-y bar yesterday and this song came up. i don't know if any of you've been there before, but there's lots of tvs all over the walls showing the video of the songs that are played. so i mostly did my best to block out the sound and focused on perving - let's face it, she might have been gospel, she might sing stupid annoying songs, but she's hot.

Honestly when I first heard this song I loved it...it was my ringtone, I jammed out to it in my car...and then I was at the bowling alley with my family and it came on over the radio there...these two girls started singing and dancing loudly to the song..the same two girls who literally minutes before had laughed and pointed at me and my gf as we held hands walking back from the snackbar. The song is about the trendy straight girls who think theyre gay just because when they get drunk they'll makeout with other girls. It really hurt me that it was funny to see me and my gf in love but cool to sing a song about the same damn thing.

I'm lucky in that I'm always unaware of when people are mocking me in public until it is pointed out afterwards. But yeah, the good thing is it's probably not a smart idea to laugh at people at a bowling alley where there are many large heavy objects around so at some point you gotta figure that mean girl will have her cumuppance.

Radio play ruins every catchey song there is or ever was. I'm glad I wasn't aware and listening to the radio when "Stairway to Heaven" was played 100 times a day.

Then when I was singing it in the car and I said I liked it my dad was like "I'm not even gonna ask why you like this song"
I replied that it's catchy and fun and he was just like "oh okay." Obviously he doesn't know.
