L Word Season 5I was looking at YouTube videos of the L Word and I saw one about Turkish Oil Wrestling and it really really annoyed me. It seems like the people making the L Word are slipping more and more into the role of 20 year old male, or at least assuming that's what the main audience is.
It was good in the first season because, yes, it had a lot of sex in it, but it wasn't obviously for guys, like this seems to be. I think season five is going to continue the downward spiral of previous seasons.
Just when you think the show can't get any worse, it just becomes more lame.
Here's the trailer.

Yeah, the first season dealt with just as much emotional issues as anything else, and I suppose so did the second. Especially with the whole Alice and Dana thing, which I think was season 2. I hope that it doesn't go into this whole area of wanting to attract the males, especially by things like that. Yes, it's fairly hot, but it's just typically what a guy would find attractive. I like the sensual moments in The L Word, the more 'real' ones.
Let's just hope it doesn't get worse!

I hope it doesn't go in that direction!
Actually, we finally watched the first season of the L Word on dvd. We do not get that channel and I just never got around to it. I really enjoyed the first season! Now, we are in the middle of the second season which is also pretty good. I did hear that the subsequent seasons are not quite as good from the queer point of view. I can say the cast could be more reflective of the lesbian communities we know. The characters do appear to be tipped toward the "fem" side a bit is what I am saying.
I am also watching Queer as Folk. I am at the part when Brian goes to Justin's prom. That scene where they dance together was truly beautiful! ...and some peeps think guys aren't hot together. Phhtt Wrong!!!

My partner rented the first 2 episodes of the L Word, and it was surprising good, so we bought the DVD for the first season. What a mistake! It just got progressively worse throughout the season, and although I really like Jennifer Beals and Pam Grier, I didn't want to watch any more. From what people have been writing here and elsewhere, t looks like we made the right choice in not buying the following seasons.

and to think i was the only one that stopped watching the l word!
all of my friends are still pretty obsessed with it, but i tuned out around the third season. dana was my favorite...but...that wasn't the only reason for not watching. i just couldn't get into it. totally agree with the show going downhill.

Well, money talks, and more men are into lesbians than there are actually gay and bi women. Sad lame-ass fact of capitalism.

Firstly.. Katin.. THANK YOU for choosing that avatar / icon.. I love drooling whenever you are in thread LOL
L Word season 5 is looking laughable.. and that's me being kind. I hate how some of the stories have gone.. I hate Jenny, actually I hate most of the characters now, they all totally suck.. other than Helena and Alice and their storylines are so lame right now anyway. (when I say 'hate' I mean an utter dislike, since I don't really think I 'hate' much lol).
Lara Perkins aka the Soup Chef was my favorite.. and Dana was so funny.. and Alice used to be hilarious, til she got all uber serious.

Um...well, I'm still looking forward to it. I watched the preview for the 5th season (that was on After Ellen...after the wrestling promo), and it got me all excited to watch the new episodes. I love the L word.

i was never that enthusiastic about L Word really. i mean, i watch it but only in that 'this is such a trainwreck, i can't help but see how bad it all turns out,' especially with the way it's written. i'll probably keep watching for the heck of it but yeah, definately not for quality. same goes for South of Nowhere, really. n.n;

Glad to hear I'm not alone.
I agree with what Lucy said about the lack of emotional issues as the series has worn on. The first season did seem to have mroe of these than the 'sex' issues of later seasons and this made for great drama.
I've only seen a couple of episodes of Queer as Folk, the UK version which someone sent me. Are they worth purchasing?

I can't wait until the 5th season. I know it's all trashy and really doesn't have much depth to it, but I love watching The L Word, even if just to see what happens.
It's nice having lesbians on screen every week and it's good that it's like the Jackie Collins version of lesbianism. LOL. I love that stuff.
Anyway, the trailer is cool. Gotta love Helena in prison.. hot hot hot!

Colvin, I guess I would rent a couple more episodes and see if you like it enough.
GG Having "having lesbians on screen" will probably motivate to watch through all the seasons regardless of differing reviews.

Yeah I saw the trailer a while back and I liked it. Like minit said | minit wrote: | | "having lesbians on screen" will probably motivate to watch through all the seasons regardless of differing reviews. | That goes for me as well! as for the oil wrestling, that happens quite a bit over at the clubs i go to and seeing it on there doesnt make me think its catering mostly for men. But apart from the l word what else really is there? I've seen a couple of exes and ohs but whats there?

That's exactly what I was thinking. If there were lots of other lesbian shows out there, then I'd watch what was the best. But besides what's on Logo and SoN, there aren't really many 'lesbian shows'. (I don't count shows that have lesbian characters in them...) I'm just glad I have The L Word. SoN is too...PG-13. It's okay, but I like more...um...R rated stuff. haha

Man Birmingham must have upped its stakes since I was there vou LOL There are seriously Lesbian Turkish Oil Wrestling clubs in Birmingham? Makes me all sad to have left the UK hahaha
I agree with what most people are suggesting.. the L Word isn't about quality anymore, it's more about no other choice, though I did think the oil wrestling trailer was purely to get the male audience interested (that aren't already).

It's been good so far (seasons 1-4 I mean). As long as it doesn't slide too much, I'll keep watching it.

One of my friends finally convinced me to give season 4 a try, and I was pleasantly surprised. I had sworn I was never going to watch the show again after the third season, but I though the fourth season did a good job of bringing humor back into the show. I still don't identify with any of the characters really, but at least it got kind of funny again.
