Lesbian Slutfest in Book FormI like a lot of lesbian books that are a bit of fun, glitzy (or should that be clitzy) humor and I wondered if anyone could recommend any decent lesbian authors or books they've read?
I love that whole trashy Jackie Collins feel to lesbian books, the more drama the better. I'm not big on all these lesbian cops and detectives, so if anyone has something they think I'd like, let me know!
Thanks

Ok I will look through my pile of books and we can compare lol. I am hopeless, I read one then another and another, never finishing any of them. I'm reading a few dif lesbian ones right now but can I recall what they are off the top of my head.. nope! Grrrr lol.
I think I've read a few of the ones you've mentioned, I don't like books that make me cry too much, I"m such a baby lol

i'd definitely be interested to hear what y'all have to recommend. it seems all of the lesbian books i read have tragic endings (i.e. the illusionist and bittersweet). but then again, that's nothing new...lesbian films have been doing that to us for years.
so clean out your shelves...i'm itching for something new to read!

I've only read two lesbian books. I'm kinda limited to what our library has, as our small bookstores don't carry gay and lesbian books. And I have a huge pile of books that I own that I still need to read.
Anyway, I've read Prozac Nation (didn't really like it), and A Departure from the Script (LOVED it).
I should try looking up some of the books you've all mentioned on here. Maybe our library has some of them.

Check out this book company for many choices:
http://bellabooks.com/
Make sure to check out the Bella After Dark link under book tities if you are looking for erotica. Also, there are books just of lesbian erotica out there. Try doing a search with those two words at an online book site.
I like Karin Kallmaker a lot, and J. M. Redmann. Lauren Wright Douglas wrote great stuff but it's rather hard to find, nowadays.

Hey thanks for the suggestions. I'll check Bella out.
I could never get into Karen Kallmaker for some reason...
I wonder why there are so many lesbian books about detectives and things.

Well, if you don't mind it in a comic form, there are some translated Japanese yuri/lesbian manga by both Lililicious and Otenba available for downloading, though Otenba only has one live project at the moment since the others got licensed here in the states.
Apart from that, the only lesbian themed books I've read are ones that most have read already, and that's the books from Sarah Waters: Tipping the Velvet, Fingersmith, reading through Affinity now.

There are some lesbian science fiction and fantasy and horror writers like Melissa Scott and Tanya Huff, but not all of their books have lesbians in them.
Some good books with lesbians (but not all by lesbian writers):
The Nature of Smoke by Anne L. Harris (science fiction)
the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison (has a cool lesbian vampire, but they are mysteries)
The Kindly Ones by Melissa Scott (science fiction)
There are many others, but I can't think of them right now.

Oh, speaking of comic book form, try the Strangers in Paradise graphic novels by Terry Moore. Great lesbian character, even though it was written by a guy. He's a good storyteller.
Other good lesbian characters in graphic novels (both by guys, though):
My Faith in Frankie by Mike Carey, Sonny Liew, and Marc Hempel (kind of a cute, weird book)
and
Paris by Andi Watson and Simon Gane
And for lesbian comics by women, try:

I haven't heard anything about the books that people mentioned.
One of my favourite (lesbian) books is Fingersmith by Sarah Waters.

Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown is kind of the classic lesbian novel. My mom bought it for me right after I told her that I was gay.

Your mom sounds really cool! Yeah I've read that also when I was a lot younger and I remember enjoying it to. I think you're right about it being the lesbian classic book to read.
I'm lazy, my books aren't that far away and I can't get up off my ass to look and suggest some. Forgive me all, it's a lazy Friday night for me and I've eaten too much Indian food to move hahahaha

My mother is pretty awesome, it's true. RFJ is surprisingly kinky considering that it's a bit more mainstream than most lesbian fiction.

Thanks! I wish I had a kodoma plushie! I've got a phone charm, a glow in the dark figurine and a weird little music-box thing, but no stuffed kodama. I actually also really like your avatar. I like to think that Natsuki and Shizuru ended up together, even if Natsuki claimed she was straight.

It's quite a lovely lil' plushie. :3 Originally, I bought it not only because I liked kodama but because my friend thought they were creepy...so I'd chase after her while making it rattle. XD Oh yeah, along with the jiggling, it actually has a little rattle in it as well! Totally forgot about that...shame on me.
Amusingly enough, it was a second choice (usually I'd use this one but it was over 8kb. n.n; But as for Natsuki and Shizuru, in later novels and the anime artbooks, it was heavily suggested that their relationship deepened much more after Shizuru's graduation. It also helps that she sent Takeda a rejection note, saying that there was someone else's feelings she needed to accept. Hint hint, nudge nudge. ;3 Of course, 'relationship deepened' can be taken many a ways, much like how Natsuki saying that she loves Shizuru, just not the same way Shizuru loves her can be taken many ways. It's all rather ambiguous but I don't think it's completely unreasonable to think that something more than friendship grew from what they had at the end of the series. I'd like to think that Natsuki accepted that Shizuru had such feelings, and while she could quite return the lust aspect, she couldn't really deny that Shizuru was indeed very special to her, thus could never really reject her.
...unless, of course, if you're talking about MANGA Natsuki, who is as straight as a laser line and after Tate. Ugh. n.n;
*considers just making a ShizNat speculation post somewhere to avoid further off topic-ness* n.n;
Uhh...to be somewhat on topic, here's a link to a webcomic I read, Khaos Komix, which features a lesbian coupling (though their story hasn't been finished yet) amongst other GLBT couplings.

Ooh ooh, ShizNat thread! There was this artist on Live Journal that I use to look at her fan art all the time. Jango Joe or something like that? Her art was amazing! We should have a thread we can post pics in and stuff. Yay!

Ah, Jango Joe/sights_alined/Lang? Ha ha, amusingly enough, she's dating/engaged to my ex. <_<; But yes, her art is quite awesome. I'll start up that thread then. XD

Yes! Lang! Woah, what?! Do you know her??

LOL nah, I never really got deep into the ShizNat groups really. I liked reading the occasional fanfic and looking at pretty art but I never had anything to contribute myself so I didn't get that involved. I did ask her if she would be interested in doing art for a project my friends and I are working on but she said she was pretty busy. That's about it. I'm sure she's an awesome person but I'm just a teeny bit bitter she got the girl I wanted but hey, as long as she makes her happy, I won't have to go Shizuru on her, right?

That sounds pretty rough. I could see why you'd be ticked at her.
I use to be into fan art and fan fiction to the point where I'd stay up all night reading and looking. But I got away from it when I started playing Halo. Now that takes up a lot of my free time at night, besides hanging out with friends and whatnot.
I was into Noir fan fiction too. There are some beaitulfully written stories. Same with Marimite, but I could never find very good Sachiko/Yumi fics. ;_;

LOL well, I'm not really ticked at HER necessarily, just a lil' sad over the situation, I suppose. I congratulated them on their engagement when they announced it but yeah, made me a bit emo. ;_; Dah well.
I read more fanfic during my Rurouni Kenshin years if anything but will usually read anything pointed out to me by friends. It's so hard to find good stuff when there's places like fanfiction.net that let anything and everything be posted. x_x;

lesbian booksYou might give Sarah Waters a try. She's a very good author. She has 4 books, (I think), the best being, in my opinion, Tipping the Velvet. The BBC made a mini series out of Tipping the Velvet that is pretty good. The book did make me cry but it is an excellent read. I can't seem to remember two of them but the other one is Fingersmith, also good but pretty subtle as far as the lesbian content goes. Girl Walking Backwards by Bett Williams is great. I LOVE that book. Bett has another book that's about her own life that's also very good called The Wrestling Party.
Hope this helps; happy reading

My favorite lesbian author is Fiona Zedde. She writes more for the african american audience but she is great! www.fionazedde.com That's her official site and you can check out some of her books there. I used to read so much more than I do now. While i'm home, my 360 just calls my name and I don't do much else!

I love Sarah Waters, the way she writes is brilliant. 'Affinity' is another by her, even less lesbian content than Fingersmith (also now a film) but still good. The fourth one I havent read yet 'The Night Watch'. Tipping the Velvet I have read so many times, love the film as well, but book is definatly better. If I were Nan I would have fallen head over heals for Kitty as well, aaaaaahhh *heart flutters*
