[MMO] Perfect World

so i'm sure some people might've heard of Perfect World either via word of mouth or the review of it on Kotaku but i thought i'd give it a bit of love on here as well.

so PW is a free to play MMO that came from China and has an international version for English speakers. unlike most other F2P MMOs out there, you don't feel jipped if you don't buy equipment from the game's store, making your character forever weak to those that do have the indispensable money to buy the equipment, because stuff sold in the store is generally cosmetic. sure, there are scroll that increase the amount of XP you'll receive for a set amount of time or faster mounts to get you from point A to B but nothing like Olympus Thunder Pants of Zeus +99999999 for 40 gold or whatever ingame money is used. so far, the only thing i've really purchased from the store are stones that allowed me to increase the amount of items i can carry and store in my safe, which are about $2-3 each. sure, i could farm the items to get them but meh...i'm a lazy bastard that way sometimes. :3

the game's setting for the most part is very Asian though human/wing elf characters can tweaked to look like any sort of ethnicity. along with the humans and elves, there are the Untamed, which will appeal to the furry crowd. n.n; male Untamed can be either barbarian (tanks) lions, tigers, panda bears or wolves, while the female Untamed can be either foxes, rabbits, kitties, succubi or...fawns? something with antlers...which are venomancers (kind of a cross between a WoW warlock and druid). humans can be either blademasters or wizards and elves can be archers or clerics.

for a F2P game, i'm enjoying it quite a bit. sure, it's not as refined as other MMOs out there and has room for improvement but i'm enjoying running around as a big burly barbarian wolfman that looks like a linebacker with a big axe. XD i need to take a more current screencap of him sometime soon...

Ohhh Aion! I have been following this game since 2 years ago. Sadly, unlike P.W., it's P2P. BUT! I'm still waiting patiently for it to be released. Smile

I really don't mind paying to play if the game is solid.  I've played far more p2p than f2p mmos.  

I'm trying to be a good lil girl and wait patiently on SE, for their new MMO they are supposedly working on.

A few of my guildies from Last Chaos have been playing Perfect World recently and raving about it. I've been thinking bout checking it out although i have so many commitments in LC that i'm not sure i'd end up with much time to play PW (same reason my GW days have fallen away).

BUT, im willing to give it ago! Whats ur username nekotine, I'll hit ya up if i make it in-game  Razz

another PlayNC/NCSoft MMO, eh? well, i did/do like City of Heroes/Villains but Tabula Rasa left quite a sour taste in my mouth... i know they have that F2P MMO Dungeon Runners but i never really got into it. Aion does look pretty, especially for those that REALLY like elves. lol i'll keep an eye on it but for now, PW will do me good.

NCSoft didn't develop CoH or CoVs...it was cryptic i believe, and they sold out to NCSoft.  Just saying so you don't base the game play and features of CoHs on NCSofts development skills lol.

doesn't that kind of accentuate my point tho? i liked what Cryptic did, which NCSoft published, but i don't care for games that NCSoft themselves developed? Very Happy? lol ah well. at this point, i'm just hoping my computer will be able to handle Aion with it having the CryEngine and all...

I've played a number of MMORPGs over the years, and if R.O.S.E was still free then that might have been the one I was still playing. That held some interest for me, for quite some time.  It had a large user base, the graphics were nice and cute.  It had a large land, quests, and crafting, as you'd expect to find in any MMORPG these days.  The only things which made it different really were fun, and gameplay aspects,a long with the whole social-fun thing.

These days DoMo fills the gap rather nicely.  It has cute graphics, events almost every day of the week, including user created events, a very large user base, numerous quests, a variety of locations. Fun, a lot of social, and good humoured play.  No gold spamming for more than a minute, (they're kicked and banned as the G.Ms are actually present and able.)  I could go on making a list, but all I can really say is, out of all the ones I've played so far, including the realistic looking ones, and right down to the MUDs, DoMo has all the things I really would look for in an MMORPG.  It is free, and you can get a lot of fun, and played hours from it, and probably meet a lot of friendly people along the way.  

It does have certain negative bits and bobs, as do all MMORPGs, but I think they are quite minor things that only people who compare it to games like Warcraft expect.  And of course you get all the chauvinists, and 11 year olds that you would with any other game, but thankfully, the G.Ms are present a lot of the time, and there is a G.M channel,a nd you can blacklist people.  But DoMo isn't rife with such problems I've found. Indeed it's quite quiet compared to my own expectation, and many others.

I've been there since closed Beta, and while improvement is slow, it does come in time.  And while there is a cash shop, the items are often sold in game by players for game gold, including pets, costumes and many other objects, all obtainable by most peeps.

I like it enough not to have left for any length of time beyond recovery, and have made friends with a lot of people over the past 18 months or so, and have had fun., which is what it's about for me, fun with company, and exploring, etc. It's all there,

When I played Last Chaos, I found that I had such major attacks from the lagasaurus,  especially in the town square, it froze for extended periods of time when I ended up there, and certain aspects got very old and boring quite quickly (and as for that dungeon in town, ugh, how is anyone supposed to really do that, gosh?)

Domo has it's lag too, but it really is very minor compared, or I find it so with my connection, and I'm linked to the servers, wherever they are in America from my little computer.

It's open in a window while I type this, and it's fine back there. hang on, I think a hulu bamboo just taunted me, have to go teach it a lesson.  Sorry. I have to go, you understand...

Wow, you sure you're not a sales rep for this game?  You just about have me sold and that is incredibly hard to do with me and a f2p MMO.   If I have time in the next few weeks, which I don't think I do, I might play. (Though, Fable 2 is gonna get most of my free time)

i work during the week but i'd definitely be willing to help out anyway i can if you decide to hop onto the Heavens Tear server. i haven't started characters on the others unfortunately so we'd both be starting at zero if we go onto those. just lemme know here or via a PM.

I have a low level character on the "lost city" server if anyone is there. Think I am lvl 11 or 12. I just play occassionally if I get bored, my main mmo is ofc EVE Online! ^^

Is PvP in this game as brutal with the consequences as it can be on EVE?  And at first glance this game appears to have a decent crafting system?

Not sure about the PvP. I'm a big Care Bear weenie when it comes to PvP for the most part. I've never built a single MMO character for PvP and if I ever did PvP, it was just with friends for a laugh.

The crafting itself is pretty decent but on the skill I chose (Apocathery), it kind of irked me that even though I had leveled up my skill to make Tier 2 things, I couldn't actually use any of the pots/pills/what have you until I was level 30. Granted, the Tier 1 stuff you make can last you until you hit 30 but still...

You only need one tool to do all of your gathering (Pick Axe) which is pretty nice but at the same time it means that pretty much anyone and everyone can be 'gatherers.' I'm pretty guilty of just gathering everything I come across but I do belong to a guild so I figure it'll be of use at some point. There are limitations to gathering though as you do have to be a certain level to gather things so you won't get people like in WoW, who just strip down to your skivvies, run around whatever level 50-70 area and hopefully not die while trying to farm stuff.

So I decided to give this beastie a go, since it's free.  I rolled up a Venomancer named Revanpaw for my first char, but since I usually get major altitus I'll end up trying everything before I settle on something.  
It's pretty decent for being a free game I'd say.  Still haven't decided though if the hit to "polish" is worth $15/month in savings to me or not.  Will have to see how the community is, etc.

Anyone else having issues with the updates? I've downloaded the game but so far havent been able to get in cause the updates keep failing on me =/

Truth be told, I haven't logged into PW in a long while due to first giving DoMO a try, then getting Fallout 3 in the mail. But let me go ahead and try to start up the game now...

...hmm, nope, no problems here but then again, it seems like I was already updated to the newest patch/version, which is 24. Maybe a firewall setting or something? Not sure. :/

I'm back on it. GAAAAH! XD LOL! Doesn't seem like all that much has changed, just that they've added new things into the shop. Or at least, if they have added anything, it's for the UBERlevels, not the chumps like me that are level 41. Mad But hey, at least my tiger can now ride on a giant SWAN rather than a giant manta ray. Very Happy
