just a tip, it might not be too bad an idea to put the title of anime in the topic, especially if it's only one feature you're posting about. makes it a bit less ambiguous.

but anyhoo, this is the sequel to the first Appleseed movie which was based off the manga of the same name, which also has an earlier animated OAV (original animated video, a term used for stuff that is somewhat movie length/quality but goes straight to video/dvd release rather than theatres). apparently, there was supposed to be a tv series as well but so far, there's been no other word on it. if you've watched Ghost in the Shell then know that Appleseed comes from the same creator, Masamune Shirou. both movies are done in the 3DCG style. i dunno if i'd call it 'next gen' since it kinda reminds me of the cel shading style that Jet Set Radio uses but more CG but it is extremely awesome to watch.

basic storyline for Appleseed is that Deunan (the girl) and Briareos (the cyborg) are part of an elite special force SWAT team for the city of Olympus, a utopia that was established with humans and bioroids after a 3rd World War occured. the first movie deals with a certain cell of humans having issues with the Bioroids, while the sequel Ex Machina i think gets a bit more personal since Deunan and Briareos, who had a relationship beyond the battlefield dating before Briareos' transformation, start having troubles when a new bioroid soldier enters their team.

a lot less headbreaking of a story than GitS but still just as entertaining. and c'mon, John Woo helped out on the second movie. that's gotta count for something, right? XD

lol sadly, i've had to sell my dvds on a couple of occasions to scrap money together so my collection isn't as big as it could be but i'd say anime makes up about 40-50% of my dvd collection. this is not including the CDs/DVDs of fansubbed anime that i have, and i still have a few VHS fansub tapes as well! just goes to show how 'old school' my fandom dates back, i guess? i pretty much started collecting fansubs a little bit before Evangelion and Escaflowne were being shown in Japan so yeah...96-97. what can i say? i'm an anime g33k. :3
