Recommendation for DS games. As I mentioned in my first introductory post here, I'm getting a Nintendo DS Lite for Christmas. I'm not sure which game I'm getting with it, but I think the The Legend Of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass.
A couple of my family relatives aren't sure what to get me so I suggested a DS game, however I'm not totally sure which games are currently out and are good. I've not had too much experience with the DS, I've only played Brain Training on it. I know I'll love the console itself but in my humble opinion some games just don't work on a handheld.
So basically, I'm looking for some recommendations of which games I should ask for to make the best use of my DS. I generally like role-playing games (I always think sexually when I say that!) and platform games. But I'm pretty open to suggestion as long as it's good gameplay. Oh, also I'm interested in a Mario game, after all, Mario is awesome. Any specific suggestion for which one?
Thanks everyone,

Here are some games I have that I think most people would enjoy:
Brain Age 1/2 (even if at first you kinda cry at what your brain age is...)
Cooking Mama (use the wand to chop, slice, whisk and much more!)
Elite Beat Agents (probably one of the most challenging music games I've played but still enjoyed)
Final Fantasy IV (if you're a SquareEnix/RPG/Final Fantasy fan)
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (point-click puzzle detective adventure that utilizes all of the DS functions)
Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja (with a title like that, who can resist? Fun lil' dungeon crawler game if you're a fan of Atlus, who did Disgaea.)
Phoenix Wright series (I have yet to finish the game myself but it IS fun. Point-click puzzle lawyer game.)
Trace Memory (1st point-click puzzle adventure from Cinq, who did Hotel Dusk. Short but sweet, and utilizes all the DS functions)
Trauma Center: Under the Knife (think the old game Operation but on a time limit and you do much more than extract things)
As for games I heard are awesome and fun but don't own yet:
Harvest Moon (though I hear this bugs out on people quite a bit...)
Honeycomb Beat
Jam Sessions
Jump Super Stars (if you're an anime fan)
Meteos
Metroid Prime Hunters
Nervous Brickdown
Point Blank
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence

Harvest Moon
Be prepared though, to loose MANY hours to it.. it is increadibly addictive
Hotel Dusk
Reminicant of old school adventure games, you're a PI masquerading as a travelling salesman trying to unravel a mystery

Yay! Someone else that likes Hotel Dusk! \o/ The game really doesn't get as much love as it should. Also, the artwork always makes me think of the music video for Take On Me by A-Ha.
...yeah, I think I just showed my age there. XD

Hotel Dusk is an amazing game.
It is a mystery game that takes place in a middle-of-nowhere hotel and its occupants.
Lost In Blue 1 & 2 are awesome games.
In both, the basics are the same.
You are stranded on a deserted island, and you have to fend for yourself. Food. Shelter and Water.
You can build furniture with the things you find on the island. The main goal is to be rescued.
It sounds weird, but it is amazing.
Of course I STRONGLY recommend Harvest Moon, but that is a given ^_^

And I strongly recommend Rune Factory over Harvest Moon DS! Or wait for Harvest Moon Cute.
I second the Lost in Blue games, in fact, Lost in Blue 1 was one of the reasons why I bought DS in the first place!
Wario Ware is also a great game to get because it utilizes all the DS has to offer (except networking). Well, other than stylus functions, there's still that mic, right??
I think Rub Rabbits and Feel the Magic (its sequel) are pretty hilarious to play and one of those quirky type of games I like to own! It's mostly mini-games you play with the mic and stylus, and the story is you meet this girl and you want to date her, but you gotta stand out and do all these mini-games before she notices you. Yeah...
Big Brain Academy, another one of those brain games, but these are more fun and visually attractive than the monochromatic Brain Age.
Animal Crossing... If you've played the GameCube version, need I say more?? This one is a must have if you've got other friends to play with because each cart comes with something unique, plus the characters can travel from one person's DS to another. But even the single player game is pretty addicting, even though you're practically an indentured servant trying to pay off your house loan that a dirty raccoon made you buy
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. I thought this was pretty well done on the DS. Enemy AI was pretty good, and I found myself sunk in the overall story and gameplay easily.

Well one roleplaying game (RPG) for the DS which alot of my gay &lesbian friends and I like is Pokemon, plus nowadays you can play as a girl and both trade and battle over the net. Otherwise the Zelda DS title (The Phantom Hourglass) is great and Final Fantasy IV (Enhanced for the DS, it is that old after all) I've heard is good.

Point Blank is pretty fun, especially multiplayer... Uhm, I really enjoyed Etrian Odyssey but haven't tried the 2nd one yet, I also liked Chocobo Tales, but the card battling was boring after a while...
Advance Wars was also really good, it has a lot of the characters from the GBA version, and I also liked Age of Empires, although it sometimes glitches out randomly.
