Oysters o.O... Is there like some secret about oysters I should know that my mother''s not telling me? o.O She was on the phone earlier to her boyfriend or whoever he was and she mentioned telling her work colleagues to refrain from telling me information about oysters. I know if you eat like a zillion oysters that you'll get aphrodisiac effects but other than that, I know nothing. I'm a seafood kind of girl, but I don't like oysters that much unless they're with Worcestershire sauce and bacon xD
I'm just trying to figure what she's holding back which is pretty much everything because she doesn't even seem to be comfortable bringing up the subject of sex. Being an honest to goddess Pansexual Wiccan, I'm the most open minded person because you could talk to me about almost anything and I won't insult your integrity. But she's driving me insane because she's holding something back about Oysters and I'm now obsessing over it xD I've spent the last ten minutes looking up Oysters so if any of you lovely ladies know anything, spill the beans xD

Yeah, it's a myth that oysters are aphrodisiacs but for the most part it only serves as a placebo of sorts since no scientist has been able to find anything. It's all due to the folklore of Aphrodite being born and emerging from an oyster shell, and since she's the goddess of love, it's gotta be an aphrodisiac, right? ;3 Personally, I don't think so. I love my kaki fry oysters but I've never felt randy after having them, LOL.

| Quote: | Casanova, the 18th-century lover who would breakfast on 50 oysters, has been vindicated by a study that proves they really are aphrodisiacs.
And spring, scientists say, is the time of year the shellfish have their greatest aphrodisiac quality.
The team of American and Italian researchers analysed bivalve molluscs - a group of shellfish that includes oysters - and found they were rich in rare amino acids that trigger increased levels of sex hormones.
The link was announced to 15,000 scientists in San Diego, California, at a meeting of the American Chemical Society last week. "I am amazed," said George Fisher, a professor of chemistry at Barry University in Miami, who led the research team with his graduate student Raul Mirza and Antimo D'Aniello, of the Laboratory of Neurobiology in Naples. |
Got that off the SMH {Sunday Morning Herald} site xD Well now I've found my answer, ooh, Kaki Fry, I've not tried it yet, I want to though. I can't stomach raw oysters >< only grilled ones xD

LOL Since it's the "love season" I was in Barnes and Noble and found an Aphrodisiac Cooking book that mentioned the thing about Cassanova. While I'm sure you have to consume insane amounts of oysters to have any of the effects actually reach your brain, I have a feeling that it's mostly psychological. Oysters have the history of looking pretty similar to the vagina. Kind of like cucumbers, bananas and asparagus. (Yeah, Asparagus was listed as an aphrodisiac. Smells lovely, ya think?)
Other than that, I know that they're quite delicious raw with lemon and hot sauce or just some vinegar.

I have eaten them a few times but only rarely and I certainly wouldn't consider them an aphrodisiac but I guess mainly b/c I think that their only okay not an excellent food.
So with that said I'm gonna have 2 agree with Kaleido and say that it's mostly psychological.

The secret of Oysters is that they're pretty good bbq'd with salt. Same with Opihis, which I doubt anyone outside of Hawaii eats (or can buy).

BBQ Oysters have to be the big ones though. Little ones aren't as good on the bbq. LOL

You prolly can't see it but i'm cringing at the mere thought of eating oysters, they don't look like they should be eaten and i'm not tossing down something that looks like an alien brain..

I don't think I like them but also have not had them in a long time! I am an adventurous eater! I love sushi, thai food, indian, seafood, all kinds of stuff! Oysters are totally on my diet too, so I can eat some soon and see if my tastes have changed!!

I learned how to open an oyster today. Fortunately, I didn't have to try it. No offense to you oyster lovers, but a raw oyster just looks messed up.
