Ragnarok Online / AnthemRO a.k.a. AnimaROsoooo....every once in a while, i get the urge to get back to my MMO roots and play the incredibly silly, cute and mind numbing game, Ragnarok Online. i played this game while it was still in beta (ZOMG! Pre-Izlude! !) and while it'snot the prettiest or most story driven game out there, i have to admit that it's fun and i made quite a few friends because of it. it'll always have a place in my gaming heart even with all the things that went wrong with it.
but i haven't played on the official servers in quite a long time and part of the reason is because i moved onto other games but the other part was the fact that there were and continue to be A LOT of free private RO servers. some are exactly the same as the official servers, a lot have increased exp/drop rates and some will let you 'donate' to the server so you can receive the uber|337 shiny items you'd never EVER be able to have on the official servers. AnthemRO, formally known as AnimaRO before some drama and life stuff went down, is one of those servers and i play on it. it was advertised on ShoujoAi, an lesbian anime/manga fansite, since it was a GLBT friendly server that even allowed same sex ingame character marriages. i don't expect people to come flocking to it but as i said, it's a fun inbetween game and heck, it's free so i figured i'd link it! you are allowed to make multiple accounts if you want more than three characters. i'm just happy i finally get to try out the gunslinger class! so fun! XD |

I don't *think* I've ever played it before. It's hard to recall all the free mmos I've played. After my exams are over I'd give it a try though so thanks for the heads up

But oh gods, you were Pre-Izlude beta too? I thought I was the only one who remembered those times, long, long ago. Ahaha, do you remember the 'loading' bug where the game would freeze whenever you tried to enter a new map? Or when you'd end up in black space? XD Those were fun times. To be honest though, RO lost its charm for me the more advanced it got. The cute sprites were nice but I just got sick of grinding and grinding monsters for hours for like 5% to level. That and the fact that you needed UBER l337 .001% drops to make your equipment any decent. AnimaRO was alright. Though I stil say the whole gay marriage thing was false, and a little bit irritating advertising. I mean basically they had to have a GM go in and manually edit the database. It's not like you actually got to do an in game wedding. <_< |

I played RO alpha and beta I loved that mmo! Still once and awhile try out free servers. I'll have to try out AnthemRO! XD Thanks for the link!

I just LOVE RO. While not the best MMO out there, it has a really nice feel to it. It's chaotic and, sometimes, nonsense mythology is great for fanart and fanfiction. Soundtrack it's great, character design is really cool, the HUD and chat systems are among the best I've seen on MMOs and, most important, I met my girlfriend while playing it.
Never got that emotionally attached to a game before. |
