Right, where is the RPG forum? So, I'm new here and I notice that many of you ladies play RPG games, but I don't see a forum for these.
I play the occasional shooter and it's mostly about playing really good games, no matter what they are. I think we're past the whole idea of a chick gamer being cool only if she's a good FPS player. Can RPG gamers come out from behind the trees now?
Right now I'm playing The Last Remnant and working on guild quests that so far have proved nearly impossible, and I guess all my gamer buddies working on all this together are boys, but I can be a boy too, so whatever.
I also play Japanese RPG games, recently finished FF12: International Zodiac Job System where a bunch of us learned to mess with the Random Number Generator to acquire the Seitengrate more easily, an invisible ultimate weapon.
Just got Final Fantasy: Dissidia in Japanese and will be starting that soon. I guess my buddies on this game are all guys too.
Noticed another chick around here has Crisis Core, I have that too and did have a Crisis Core PSP but sold it for a couple hundred over what I paid.
Another recent purchase of mine is Little Red Riding Hood Zombie Barbeque for the DS. Haven't started that yet either. I need to get my game addicted brain off The Last Remnant, which is a masterpiece.
And no, I don't wear Goth clothes nor Renaissance clothes but I do wear boxers.

3 little words....Secret of Mana
The best ever RPG to come out of SquareSoft.
The rpg's today just ain't a patch on it. FF12 was a load of suck the gambit system was like playing the game on auto in fact i did that set them up as killers and healers went out for the day and they were still going...
The last true FF was X (and X-2-same game just you had to pay for part 2) it had the turn based combat and required player input.
Am looking forward to FF13 after seeing the newest video it looks turn based and graphics look awsome
At the moment though WoW is taking up my time (GF getting laptop soon we will be a guild of two <giggle>) till something good comes along.
Last remnant PS3 I cant wait for it looks brilliant wish a firm release date would be forthcoming,

Turn based rpgs i.e. like FF12 are still my favorite by far.
Action based rpg's i.e. like Fable take some getting used to.
Rpg's games in general I did not like was Dawn of Mana

Ah, thanks to all those who've replied.
I know folks who play FF12 by changing the Config to Active which means you can't pause the action by pressing X, and then these players just set up Attack gambits and do everything else manually in active time. More of a challenge, I guess. There are some really amazing players of that game, I'm not a great player myself. One of my favorite videos was one somebody did of spawning the Level 99 Red Chocobo while the Garif hunter was present in the zone, and then engaging the Garif in the battle with the Chocobo. It was so great to watch that AI Garif get bubbled and healed up, and the player set up the Garif so he'd deliver the final blow to the Chocobo. So cute, but I don't think that video is up anymore.
I prefer the IZJS version of FF12, even though it is in Japanese the job system really limits the characters to a small part of the license board which makes it more challenging. Also that game has an extra game in it, the Trial Modes, an arena battle game where you fight 100 battles of increasing difficulty with your current party. You get to fight Yiazmat again...the last battle has all 5 Judges and is very challenging because they heal each other.
Anyway, best game for the 360, hard to say, I've heard Tales of Vesperia but it kind of looks a little more on the cute side which can be okay if the gameplay is good. That's the game I hear about more often than others as being a clear winner. I downloaded Fable and started it, but my main drawback so far is that I get motion sick from the camera, and that's never happened to me before with a game. Ever.
My first video game console was Pong which gives you an idea of how old I am.
Have not played Infinite Undiscovery which actually was not created by Square Enix and this fact gave me pause. The company bought the game from another developer and Square only published it.
I think The Last Remnant is genius. But it is not for folks new to RPGs, the difficulty is much greater and the game is less forgiving for mistakes in strategy.
Personally I think the best RPG so far for the 360 is Mass Effect. I get all squishy still when I think of the alien shopkeeper who says "would you like to see some of It's items today?" Loved the strip club, well it wasn't quite a strip club but I liked it.
Doesn't really bother me that there aren't many "lesbian" character games. Sure many games are geared to guys but most of the male protagonists aren't really anything guys think is so great themselves. They are just game characters and most of the time nobody finds the protagonist too appealing. GTAIV really has a dog of a main character doesn't it?

I'm not that far behind you age wise.
I have yet to play Mass Effect if only to start another game, which I'm trying to finish before I start something new.
Tales of Vesperia is similar to the other Tales series i.e Tales of Eternity comes to mine.

Thank you so much for saying so I cannot tell you what a relief it is to find this site.

To think I read the topic and then thought this thread would be about old-fashioned pencil and paper RPGs, only to find it's about the genre of video game people just call "RPGs" (some, like Mass Effect, might actually count, but I find that JRPGs in particular have a relationship with RPGs somewhat like dwarf planets have with planets).
Hell, where's the traditional RPG forum?

Damn I remember those too! Only played on a few occasions.
I guess I;m showing my age a bit.

They aren't dead yet, though they're a bit of a cottage industry. Dungeons and Dragons just went into its fourth edition last year, for instance.

I played some kind of card table game with friends not too long ago that was an RPG of sorts. You had to build roads and acquire property and build your castle. Can't remember the name of it. Maybe it was just the wine wearing off, but I was bored silly. Video games have spoiled me for fast paced play. I don't think I can go back to paper games.
