Stand and be counted!Okay, everybody list all their Mac stuff:
I have a (dead, unfortunately) Powerbook 100 laptop -- the first Mac I actually owned, although I had used Apple IIs in the past.
Also:
Power Mac 6100/60 running OS 8, which I still love after over 13 years. I use it play play old games.
Power Mac G4 500 MHz running OS X 10.3.9 and can also boot into OS 9 (upgraded the graphics card and added another hard drive)-- I gave this one to my partner, so technically, it isn't mine, anymore, but I use it a lot when she wants to use my faster Mac to play games. I still have Diablo II LOD and Warcraft III, plus various pinball and breakout games installed it. She has the Sims (with all the expansions) and Zoo Tycoon on it.
Power Mac G4 1.25 GHz dual processor running OS X 10.3.9 and can also boot into OS 9 -- this is my main machine and I decked it out with 3 hard drives, the best graphics card at the time, and a 22" monitor. I haven't upgraded the OS because I still think 10.3.9 is the most stable of OS X, and I didn't like some of the new invasive "features" of 10.4.x. This means it can't run some of the newer software, but I guess I will eventually get a new Mac with a new OS. This one stays the way it is!
Since the 2 newer Macs can dual boot, I like keeping OS 9 on a separate hard drive from OS X. It's cleaner that way.
I don't own an iPod, because I don't like the fact you can't switch out the battery if it goes dead. I do have a different MP3 player.
I got my Mom an iPod Shuffle because she wanted one. She has an eMac in addition to an old Blueberry iMac.
The iPhones looks way cool (except for the can't switch out the battery, and that it costs a fortune!) but it won't work with the OS I have. Perhaps by the time I get a new Mac, the iPhone will be more to my liking, too.

Well, the best thing to do is go to an Apple Store near you and play with the the different Macs there a bit, ask questions there, and just see if you like it. Because it is a different OS, it may take a little getting used to. But some of my friends and switched and they love it.
The OS is user-friendly, it pretty much does what you tell it. Gestapo-Gates isn't making you do registration online checks just to use your own computer, and if you buy at Apple.com you can even customize what you get. Also, students, faculty, and parents of kids in school get a discount which usually covers any tax, anyway. And you can install the new version of Windows on it, in addition to Mac OS X, if you really need to (if you do that, I would suggest doing it before you start installing apps and stuff, because you may need to partition your hard drive, or have 2 of them).
The main thing against Macs is that a lot of PC games do not come out for the Mac, or they do, but the expansions don't. But Blizzard supports Mac (knock on wood), and many other games are ported over. There are even some games that come to Mac first (Spiderweb Software) or are Mac-only! You may also find that some apps you want aren't Mac compatible. Another very important thing to consider is that, unless you install Windows, the software you have already bought for your PC won't work on a Mac--you'll need Mac versions. (There are some things that come on Mac/Windows hybrid disks, like Blizzard games, for example). For that reason, you many want to hold on to your old Windows machine, too, if you get a Mac.

I only got a mac recently when my lovely gf upgraded to that new flashy silver huge one. I got the old cute white one.
Here it is:
And yes, I only ever use it with Windows as I'm a PC girl at heart hahaha

Ok so here's my list!
iPod Nano Red Edition 8GB - beautiful and cute and because it was a special edition I had to have it.
iTouch - Just got this when it came out recently and I ADORE it. It's beautiful!
iPod - First Generation 10GB white brick one lol. Just kept it because I like using it as a hard drive now and again.
Macbook Pro 15" 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM - I love it and it's the machine I use everyday at work and for writing in personal time.
iMac 24" 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme, 2 GB RAM 500GB HD - This is my latest purchase and it is just beautiful. I'm still getting used to all the new iLife stuff on it and leopard but I love it.
iMac 20" - although now technically my girls as she uses it all the time.
Previous Apple items I no longer have
iPod Shuffle - Sold it because it just wasn't getting used.
iBook - Awww my first Apple purchase and I loved it sooooo much!
PowerBook - 12" which I loved loved loved as it was far more stable than the iBook.
Anyway, I will add a photo later if you like of my mac setup. Also I'm proud to say I got my mum into macs (she knows nothing about computers and knows how to use hers). Also I converted two workmates to mac from pc. Lovely.

Windows on an iMac!
Oh, the horror! I can't look!
@Gadget Girl: Yeah that's why, when my (retired) mother was talking about learning how to use a computer and getting on the internet, I suggested the iMac (she picked the Blueberry color). She loved it right away, except that the little round mouse was a pain to keep oriented, so I got her a different mouse, and all was well. Later she wanted a G4 eMac with a bigger hard drive and better graphics card, so she could render her artwork faster. Now she has a whole website full of her art:
http://www.icubed.com/~ctk
I prefer desktop towers because I really like to be able to add cards, hard drives, upgrade graphics cards, etc. But iMacs are easy and fun, and a really nice computer for the money (even comes with the built in monitor).

Hey ya know.. as a Mac fan you should be happy to see that because let me tell you this... I have had LESS crashing and other annoyances running Windows on the Mac than I ever had on PC. ALL the programs I have put on it so far work like a charm.. there's really little difference other than it works better
The Mac OS is amazing though dorky.. and that's from someone who is totally used to using Windows... I'll admit it, I'm not ashamed. It's only because all my expensive software programs were for windows that I'm still on windows really.

Hmm, that is strange. I would have assumed that it was Windows causing all the problems, so the machine shouldn't matter as much.

my one and only Mac anything is my Macbook Pro and as i mentioned before, it's pretty much my 'work' machine. i like it enough but there are some things that irk me. first, being the most recent, was the whole "battery swelling" thing. sure, it took a little over a year for it to happen but man, did it ever pop. <_< when i took it to the Apple Store, even the guys behind the counter were like O_O; when i showed it to them.
which brings me to the second irksome thing, which is even though i paid for the Applecare Protection, the batteries aren't covered in it. thankfully, the guy who was helping was kind enough to say that he'd write it up as a defect so i wouldn't have to pay for it but ugh... i pretty much just run it off of the power supply now with the battery not hooked up unless i have to transport it somewhere. i notice my hands don't suffer as much as a result of it because there's no battery to overheat (even though i have it elevated to give airflow) so i guess that's kinda a plus? unless i put in a cd/dvd, then that drive warms up. x_x;
and i'm sorry, my Mac, or programs running on it, crash just as often as my PC does. that's just the way life is. ;3
and yes, not having as many games for the Mac makes me sad.
but yeah, i definately love that i got a really good student discount on it, and as far as programs i like using that are Mac only, it's all Final Cut Pro for me. ProTools and Ableton Live have PC versions as well but for the sake of seperating work frrom play, i'll likely want a Mac to put those on.
oh, i have an AirPort too, but does that really count?
other than that, i have yet to really drool over anything else that Apple has released. iPod, meh. iPhone, meh. Apple TV, meh. i may get dirty looks for this but i just have to post this and this. XD

I have an iPod shuffle I won at a raffle last year, which I don't use because I refuse to have iTunes on my PC.
For all the Mac gamers: played any recent games on your Macs lately? A PC is essential for gaming, unless you're dual-booting your Mac, and even then most Macs don't have enough graphical power to run new games on the highest settings.
I think Macs are overpriced for what you get, and the fact that they aren't as widely used as PCs really limit them in terms of what software and other stuff you can do with them. Having said that, they are easy to use for novices and certain professions, and if you don't want to play any games except really old games or WOW, they're good machines.
I'm not a diehard PC fan. The only reason I have a PC running Windows is because I play games on the PC. If there was more Linux support for gaming (by game developers/publishers), and if i was better-versed in operating systems, I would probably be running Ubuntu or some other Linux distribution.

Actually, if you compare what you get with a Mac to a PC with the same stuff, the price is pretty close and sometimes the same. They are easier to use, for the most part, but thats good, because it lets me concentrate on what I'm doing rather than on trying to make the computer work.
You are absolutely right about games, though, for the most part. If you are a hardcore gamer that wants access to all the games, you need a high-end, souped-up Windows machine, plus a console or two.
But, I have only Macs, and I own so many good games for them, that I am running out of room to store them, both physically and on my hard drives. There are many good games for the Mac, and some excellent games that are/were only for the Mac (Marathon and Escape Velocity Override, for example).
Why won't you put iTunes on you machine? It's free and you don't have to use the iTunes store part at all (not even to register) if you don't want to. It's based on the old Soundjam software, which was excellent for its time, but not free.
Do you have Quicktime on your machine?
BTW, PLEASE NOTE: The URL for my Mom's artwork site that I listed in a post in this thread was missing a tilda, so please try again (I fixed the link there), and look at her stuff:
http://www.icubed.com/~ctk
Thanks.

lol good point, so what it actually is then is that Windows Vista running on a top of the range PC Laptop, doesn't work as well as Windows XP SE running on an older iMac.
Which is kind of worse because it shows Windows Software is gonig backwards.

Vista... *shudder* I'm not upgrading to that until they absolutely force me to, which might happen somewhat soonish as most games are going DX10. *sigh* Then again, I'm still happy with HGL so I'll probably put off buying any new games for a while. XD

It really depends on where you look as far as price to feature ratio. I still contend that I could get a similarly specced PC laptop for less than the cost of a Macbook. If you're going with the Dells of the world and you don't know where to shop, yeah, you'll pay about the same as you would for a Mac.
I don't use iTunes to use my iPod Shuffle because it's an iPod Shuffle. You should just be able to drag and drop your music and be done with it. The fact that iTunes is fee is beside the point. I do have Quicktime on my machine, but I was able to get it without iTunes.

I have a G4 iMac (the half bowling ball style). It's a 1Ghz processor and has 1.25 gigs of RAM.
That's it. I wish I had more Macs, but I gave the G3 Mac I had before it to my parents. (They desperately needed a new comp.)
And no iPod either. They're expensive. My MP3/OGG player was given to me by my ex-girlfriend when she got her iPod.
I have a Palm Tungsten E2 that was given to me as a present from a good friend of mine that I was dating. I have a 1 Gig card in it, so I use it as a secondary MP3/OGG player. I do game on it as well. (PocketCity and even Freeciv!) I sync it on my Mac, so I've got the whole Mac/Palm thing going on. (I want to KILL AvantGo for their casual arrogance about being anti-Mac. [it's basically.. "We don't support macs, tough... we hear these people might be able to help you". It's so Macphobic])

Actually, titles like Quake 4 are out for Mac.
And, really, Windows Vista is probably one of the worst operating systems on the planet (DOS 6.1 was better). Macs are reliable and secure, and if game developing firms wrote more games for OS X, there would be no such issue with a lack of software.
