Sweeney Todd - Tim Burton's Latestwow! this movie is a horror musical. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are brilliant.
the visuals are starkly gothic, and London has never looked spookier. black gray skies, and dark stone. woohoo!
not to mention smartly crafted songs of murder and cannibalism. after all, demon barbers need a good meat pie maven to dispose of the bodies.
the prevailing theme is obsession in all it's delightful and devious forms. mostly devious... derived from that male desire to subdue, consume and control the feminine.
excellent!

I absolutely loved the songs about making a priest meat pie and the one where Mrs. Lovett sings about visiting the coast. This was one of my favorite movies this holiday (tied with Juno).

oh man, deliciously dark. i love tim burton, and i love johnny depp...so i was definitely biased when going to see the movie. that being said, it didn't disappoint! so. much. throat slashing. i couldn't stop laughing...especially when the first body went down the chute. i got some nasty looks from the neighboring folk in the theater...

yeah, those bodies tumbling down the shoot made your head and neck hurt! lol
it looked so 'real'.
the spurting bloody necks caused several giggle moments. fortunately, no one was sitting next to me.
guess i need to find out why horror moments make me laugh. is it OK if it's a nervous laugh?

i laugh a lot through horror movies...if i'm not screaming. for some reason, ridiculous amounts of violence or blood make me laugh. i remember when i went to go see kill bill, i couldn't stop and this old couple sitting in front of me kept looking back and glaring. i kind of felt bad. i should just not go see movies in the theater and wait for a dvd release...

Couldn't have expected less from Tim Burton. And Depp played the part like no other. Bravo from me!

LOL
Wow, you know, that also happens in Oblivion... but in the opposite. Your female PCs scream and grunt like guys during battles. Too weird!

I think I'm in the minority, didn't really enjoy it. With me it's really hard to find musicals that i like but I would give the play a try though.

i really love most anything Tim Burton directs, and when you combine him with Depp and Bonham-Carter - wow!

Perhaps we should conduct a poll....
Are we in agreement that even though most of us prefer women here we probably all like (dare I say) - even have a little crush on Johnny Depp?
I prefered him in other movies but Helena was looking particularly squeezable in this movie.

I've only just seen this movie..it was good, not Tim Burtons best.
I enjoyed Johnny Depp in it, but I thunk he is an amazing actor!!
Did anyone find the songs a bit laughable..they seemed to have quite random sentences just so they rhymed etc??
Overall (including music, acting, ambience etc) I did think it was good, and I did enjoy it, but I also think it had a lot more potential.

although i really like Johnny's acting... i can't quite say i have a crush on him. while many guys have good looks... it's not an attraction for me. i'm too much of a Kinsey 6.

Best movie of all time based on the best play of all time.
Also, if you didn't like the movie you will HATE the play.

I haven't seen the play, but I've seen other Sondheim productions. I really enjoyed the movie, though. Agree on Bonham-Carter as squeezable. You girls really need to check out the film version of Twelfth Night with her and Imogen Stubbs. If you can stand Shakespeare, that's a great one. With Stubbs playing Viola dressed up as Cesario, and Bonham-Carter as Olivia falling for Viola/Cesario, not realizing he's a she. Yeah, it has a hetero-normative ending, but there's some great fluid gender-play along the way. And the look on Bonham-Carter's face when her character realizes she's been chasing a girl this whole time is priceless.
