Twilight

Any Twilight fans out there? Anyone waiting in anticipation for the movie like me??? Lol
cupidsslave87

i'm halfway done with the book...can't wait for the movie to come out
crazy88s

I'm on the 3rd book, its really good, always loved vampires, can't wait for the movie Razz
Zombie

I read all four books right after Breaking Dawn came out...honestly at first I was skeptical cause the vamps aren't like vampires in legends at all. But after reading the first book I couldn't stop! They are all amazing books. Very Happy

only 16 more days till the movie comes out! Yipee!
justrose21

Well I'm hyped for the movie Smile I'll try and not have big expectations on it though. A lot of the time (esp with the harry potter series) I'll focus on insignificant details and end up being disappointed really easy and I'm defiantly not going to do that with this movie.

I hope they at least make another 2. Or heck, do all four! Smile

My mind is blown!

I've read one of these and pegged it for a cleverly constructed Mary-Sue designed to make insecure teenage girls batty over the perfect specimen of vaguely effeminate but totally heterosexual, protective and sensitive 21st century manliness.

It's a book that plays to the undying girlygirl fantasy of being loved unconditionally by someone without flaw who only wants to protect you and take care of you... and while it's really compulsively readable, I think the ability to insert yourself into the story is kind of crucial for it to work at all O-o;  And there just aren't any remotely interesting or strong female characters in the book at all... there's certainly not much in the way of queer sensibility...   The author's Mormon for heck's sake! Ya know, those guys who spent so much money negating our right to marry whoever the heck we want.

Hence my bafflement: lesbians hardcore fans of Twilight?!  Wha... why?  *goggly eyes*  I'm not saying it isn't cool or anything -- just that, I'm genuinely unsure how such a thing could be!!

As for the movie -- ambivalent.  I'll rent it on DVD.

Though the hype scares me... the mere mention of Twilight these days is enough to  summon this image:

(Sorry to be a negative Nancy Razz  Hardcore Twilight fans are free to thrash me for any or all of this.)

Well the movie was amazing...I guess I'm just crazy because I'm a lesbian who enjoyed this movie and book even though its a "girlygirl fantasy of being loved unconditionally by someone without flaw who only wants to protect you and take care of you". I really didnt see it as a heterosexual book about a girl who falls madly in love with a boy...I saw it as Vampires...Vampires kick ass...wither they're gay or straight...sorry if that makes me a loser.
iFidget

Zombie wrote:

Correction. SPARKLY vampires kick ass. God thats the main reason I'm going to see the movie. sparkly vamps. And KStew.

I think I'm one of the few people with a neutral opinion on the series. Nowhere near the best books I've read, the plots are weak and some (well all) of the romantic phrasing and descriptions of Ed are somewhat sickening, but still its ok as a light read.  What it boils down to is that most of us here are too old for this book. I think people pick it up expecting the next Harry Potter only to find out that they're reading a book only ever meant for tweens.

Twilight fans don't let the haters spoil your fun, and haters don't let the twilight fans annoy you, the hype will die soon just steer clear of hot topic and you will be fine.
justrose21

We just got back from the movie.

Holy crap it was like sex for my eyes...it made me want a boyfriend with a chest to lay on...and I'm gay lol Or well, it made me want a girlfriend to lay on even so let's ignore my last statement ha

Loved the 14 year olds with "I <3 Edward" shirts and everyone running around with Twilight shirts. Not really. Girls freaking out in the bathroom over the guy who plays Jacob and his hair just made me claustrophobic and I felt compelled to slap them!

The girl to guy ratio made me laugh. The movie was damn amazing and even pretty comedic as well. Kristen Stewart is so amazing at what she does and Rob did a great job for not being trained in having an American accent! Very Happy

One disappointing factor for me was the fact that Paramore was not heard at all really. Very sad. You can hear their song I Caught Myself as backround music when the girls are shopping for dresses and they played Decode at the END of the credits apparently...very depressing!

Overall, amazing and I wanna see it again!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAH omg soooo... I'm reading book 4. Not to give away spoilers but i cant WAIT to see how they adapt some of this to film. I mean freaking wow.
tsurara_mai

So I was made to watch the film... and finished listening to most of the first book.

I think the director is being trashed unfairly.  Yes, the effects are crap and the characters are thin... but you work with the budget and material you have.  While it isn't a GOOD film, it's improved on books that are... frankly... embarassingly poorly-written >.<

Bella, who was a smug, higher-than-thou know-it-all golden child in the novels has become more normal and likeable.  Not once does she make snide comments about having read every book in the Forks library three times or having passed AP Calculus in the 4th grade.  She seems to actually LIKE her friends, rather than look down her nose at them while fancying herself the noble outcast.

An actual conflict is introduced before the 3/4 mark.  There's been a bit of an effort to play with visuals, even if they are pretty obvious.  Forks is pretty for a dismal place, Edward's owl-wings in Science class are indulgent... but it's more subtle than devoting voiceover to his angelic godliness *retch*, and really, vampires chopping garlic for a dinner guest is adorable as hell!!!!!

The film's well-cast with the exception of Pattinson, who really only has to look pretty and tortured anyway *shrug*

I expected so much worse and walked away actually pleasantly surprised.

I'm really hating the books.  I didn't hate the movie.  It played like a lengthened middle-road Buffy episode with nearly all of the comedy excised.

I would watch a sequel -- and I'd probably gouge out my eyes before reading one.
pewpew

I hope the movie is better than the books since I will probably get dragged to see it. I did love the writing style of the books, but by the 3rd book it was becoming pretty obvious that there was some kind of heavy-handed agenda underneath the whole thing that I didn't want to be part of.

I hope there isn't that horrid cloying feeling, basically, that all bella does is like... be vampire liaison and have no friends apart from her boyfriend's friends and family because LOVE IS AWESOME AND IT'S ALL YOU NEED TO BE HEALTHY AND YOU WILL BE TOGETHER FOREVER AND YOU DON'T NEED YOUR OWN LIFE. I just wanted to punch every character except maybe Bella's dad. ._.;

So the Cullens really are evil?

Hehehe....  Twisted Evil
Feylamia

That's exactly what I mean. Meyer makes it pretty clear that they are evil. They just choose not to act on it.

A bit like choosing to live the straight lifestyle doesn't make you any less gay.  Wink

That doesn't mean anything. Evil isn't a lifestyle. Do they want to kill or not? Razz Bad example.

If they're evil why do they love each other and save Bella's life all the time? That makes no sense. Being evil is doing evil things, not thinking evil thoughts. If you control your evil urges, you're not evil. Remember when Dumbledore said something like that? Harry Potter ftw!

For example, I hate this total homophobic horse-ugly biatch at my school and wanted to take my pencil and shove it into a certain orifice today, but I controlled myself. I'm not mean or evil for having that thought.
Feylamia

veggiespork wrote:

I never said it was. I said living a "good life" if you're inherently evil was. Wink

veggiespork wrote:

Being evil doesn't mean that you're unable to love. As for the saving life part - as soon as Edward makes his choice, they treat her as family. Before, she was food to them. Did you read "Midnight Sun"? It's made more explicit in that volume, even if it's already clear from reading the other four books.

veggiespork wrote:

If it was your nature to go around brutalizing people then I would very much argue that you're evil. Very Happy (Also, on a side note, calling other people "horse-ugly biatch" may not be evil but certainly falls under the heading of being mean in my book.)

The vampire breed in Meyer's novels is, per definition, evil. The Cullens and the other "ambereyed" vampires are the exception to the rule as they deliberately choose not to act on it. So by all means, saying that the vampires in the Twilight universe are "evil, and seducing, and sexy" is perfectly fine. And even if you did choose to not classify them as evil, they'd still make 2/3 points on the list.
veggiespork

Twilight, imo, was written for tweens who adore mindless stories & characters. No depth, imo.

you know I gave twilight so much crap but I actually sat down and read them all and I have to say they were okay. Kind of like eating skittles, not good for you, too sweet and sort of naughty yet still enjoyable.  Theres plenty of worse books out there, I don't really see why theres such a huge bashfest on the internet, suddenly everyones up in arms about what a real vampire is supposed to be like *lolz*   Thank god she didn't write a ninja x pirate book  Rolling Eyes
iFidget

i have to agree. the thing with twilight for me was i was bluddy determined to see the bitch get turned into a vampire! and she draggggged that out so yes i did end up reading the whole series
Babycha

I've got nothing against the books, of course I haven't read them because I don't read novels Neutral I read the wikipedia pages about the whole series though.

I have a feeling the movie is cheesy, but I'll probably rent it anyway.
URSwhizkid09

I thought the books were okay but I can't comment on the series because I haven't read the whole thing.
It just doesn't have the draw HP did for me and I know there are others who say HP is just as mindless.
Anyways my real problem lies with the movie which sucked hard.

Umm in novels the author is god and they create the universe they want therefore in a novel there would technically be no debate abt what a "real" vampire is supposed to be because the novel (or series) is it's own unique universe.

you know I gave twilight so much crap but I actually sat down and read them all and I have to say they were okay.

Ya I agree with the skittles comparison. I don't care if people read them but honestly I kept getting attacked by my friends who couldn't BELIEVE that I didn't read them and didn't consider them of merit. >.>

lol, I'd totally read the pirate-ninja book Very Happy
