underworld 3

"Most of us thought we’d seen the last of the Underworld franchise after the piss poor box office performance of Underworld 2 earlier this year. But it looks like Underworld 3 is happening anyway, probably because these movies make so little to make that it’s not very hard to turn a profit, even with lackluster audience attendance.

The third movie will again be written and directed by Len Wiseman, but even more surprising than its existence is the news from MTV that Kate Beckinsale will not be allowed to reprise her role as the vampire Selene in the film. She told them in a recent interview that she's out, even though in the opinion of most she's the best thing about both of the previous movies, and she’s also Len Wiseman’s wife, so you’d think she’d have no problem getting the gig if she wanted it. But Wiseman is taking the franchise in a different, cringe-worthy direction: He’s making a prequel.

Few things kick audiences into instant power-down mode faster than the word “prequel”, but it’s not like Underworld 3 was hotly anticipated anyway and it’s probably better for Kate Beckinsale’s career long run to stay far away from it. This is a pretty good thing for her, to be able to move on to something that people might actually want to see without having to tell her husband “no thanks”. However, it’s hard to see how this could possibly be a good thing for the Underworld series, to ditch it’s star and the only good thing about it in favor of new characters fans care even less about.

Don’t be surprised if Underworld 3 ends up straight to video."

Eww, I like Kate, she's a hottie, plus she made the first 2! The third one sounds like a third rate B movie...  Sad

i refuse to watch it if it doesn't have kate in it. if she was in it and it was still a b list movie...i'd still watch it. but what's the point if she isn't going to be in it?

I may see it if Viktor is involved.  He was awesome!  Otherwise, yeah I'm pretty uninterested without Selene.

yeah he is awesome....but i still don't think i'd see it without her. she IS the movie!

I´ve never cared for the Underworld movies, but since the third movie features one Rhona Mitra, I just might pick it up.  Wink

i liked the 1st one ok,saw the 2nd for kate,and i'll see the 3rd one for rhona.

yeah we already know the story since its told in the 1st movies but it can still be interesting to develop the universe theyve created".saying the prequel will be boring is like saying a movie about some historical character will be boring because we already know how it ended. i think its not true, it can still be interesting.

yep... I'm not going to see it. Kate annoyed the hell outta me in 'brokedown palace' but then after she kicked some ass in Underworld, she regained my respect.

I won't bother seeing the third installment even if the girl DOES kind of look like her....

i have been getting customers rent the first two underworld movies and i keep telling them not to go watch this one. but i had one couple tell me that the third one was actually better than they had expected it to be....and that kate beckinsale does show up in the movie towards the end...

now idk....now it kinda makes me want to go see it

I haven't seen either of the underworld movies in the theater and the third won't change that. I'm sure the movie will deliver what we all have come to expect of the Underworld franchise: Moody and posh vampires, slave lycans, kick ass battles, a ridicously good looking female lead and her boring love interest...

ahh wth? LOL! that's funny-- she must have known people would be 'loyal' to her and not see it if she wasn't in it.. so she pops up at the end.

I saw the first one b/c my cousin dragged me to the movies to see it.
Didn't really care for it then but it has grown on me.
Haven't seen the 2nd one but wouldn't be surprised if she tried to convince me to go see the 3rd one too.

Just watched it, not too shabby, I have to say though slightly disappointed with Rhona Mitra's performance. If you're a fan of the previous 2 then give this a try, just don't expect too much.

downloaded the screener that came out a few days ago. Not bad but far from being good. Glad I didn't see it at the theaters, but I love anything with Rhona Mitra! I've only seen about half of the first Underworld but new about the storyline and such. Loooved Bill Nighy but that's about it.
