Video Game Addiction

I don't know about you, but I think there's a serious problem when you'd rather play video games than to get to know girls who are possible prospects. I've gotten to that sad point in my celibate life. On top of that, I haven't seen my roommate in over 2 weeks since I got my Xbox back from repair!

Anyone else constantly think about gaming when away from your console or PC?
Allison W

Starting the betting pool for how long this takes to turn into a meeting of Video Game Addicts Anonymous at one page and one internets.

For the record, me too.
iLove2run4fun

Dude I totally have that problem.

I'll sit at my lab bench at work and think about how the heck I can present the right piece of evidence in Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney (cause I'm a dork like that), all while I'm forgetting to monitor the rising heat on the beakers of dangerous chemicals that are surrounding me.   Laughing
tenshots26

Ha, Once I get into the zone in a game. I totally forget whats around. My gf always has to tell me, to just talk to her later if im playing a game. Since she knows How I get. I tend to block everything around. DAMN these games.
vou

The worst is new games I've been waiting for. I do not do anything else until I clock it, play until satisfied or some tragic shit happens.

A couple of years ago there was some news about Rehab for gaming addiction in Amsterdam using the 12 step program but I don't know. Can you imagine? Hi, I'm Vou and I'm an addict [insert story of some game that ruined your life]...

I used to find the whole thing funny (cause I could just imagine someone saying Mario ruined them). That all changed when I came across OLGANON (On-line Gamers Anonymous) and read some of the posts. It's quite serious for some peeps. So I'm glad I do have my non stop playing moments and my regular gaming moments.
Earrame

I don't see it as an addiction. I see it as... an anti-depressant. Self medicating with my 360.  Cool
Babycha

It only feels like i'm addicted when I'm playing a realllllllllly good game that I can't get enough of and want to marry and stuff  Confused
URSwhizkid09

Well they say denial is the first step and THEN admittance is next.
Sooo guess what?
I'm gonna skip denial and go straight to admittance.
I am addicted to gaming.... as well as television, movies, writing, procrastination, and sleeping.
But you know what?
I don't care 'cause I'm fine wit all that 'cause it helps me cope and deal with life's little (and major) disappointments.  Smile
justrose21

every so often i'll be out and about wondering who is online and find myself wanting to halo it up...maybe tea bag some people lol Other then that I can definatly stay away from it. Doesn't mean that I do of course! I basically have my xbox and the tv I play it on under my own control and no one really bothers me. And I figure I definatly can't be interested in anyone as potential girlfriends if they aren't into gaming in the slightest, it's a big hobby of mine and although I believe you don't need to have every single thing in common for me, you should have an appreciation for my video game geekness.

And you should let me teabag you once in a while on Halo. Maybe throw a sticky in your face...out of love. For sure lol

This is something I strongly believe in.
URSwhizkid09

Well, well sounds as though you're one of the few who has it under control.
And I agree you gotta be able to appreciate the gaming in order to be a potential gf,
DeviAchariya

Oh hay - completely forgot I started this thread.

Definitely agree with the other person having at least an appreciation for gaming. If you can't pick up a controller and join in, then we're going to have some serious problem here In my opinion, playing Halo (example) with another girl is my perfect idea of a foreplay ;P And teabagging? It will always amuse me to no end.

So yes! 4 days of no work = plenty of times to catch up on my games with no interruptions such as sleep.

Quoted for truth Cool

sooooo much truth!

I can't stop playing Brain Age! Like, for serious!
akiahara

i mostly get this way with new games that i've been anticipating.  i was absorbed in oblivion and fell head first into fable II.

my soon to be ex husband actually has a game addiction thing... that... for the most part, doesn't bother me, until it started invading his personal life.   Evil or Very Mad

but i tell ya... final fantasy XIII comes out and i won't leave my bedroom unless necessary.  Laughing

Is part 2 really that good? I've only played 1 and I mostly did it for Sudoku, which I quickly grew sick of.
akiahara

sudoku looks like math, and even thinking of that makes my brain... age.

HAR HAR HAR.

Loud laughter.

I didn't know how to play sudoku until I read the instructions on Brain Age, it's really simple. Really.
akiahara

i'm sure i'll get it whenever i get a DS... sometime in this lifetime...

it's kinda nice to have another game to want to play on the DS, though, because the only one i'm really interested in is the (yet to be released in the US) kingdom hearts spinoff that's all about roxas.

I knew nothing of this!!! I still need to get Chains of Memories for the PS2......
akiahara

me too!  i've never played CoM, so i'm missing a huge amount of information about organization XIII.  waaahh... so many games i'd like to play right now... though i'm afraid to get KH obsessed again because i dunno when i'll see another KH game after CoM.

i can't wait for that roxas game... 358/2 days, i think.  i was super bummed that there wasn't more roxas in KHII.  the DS game is supposed to cover roxas time in the organization... after sora goes to sleep, i think.  or maybe i'm getting mixed up on timeline here...

i wonder when we'll hear about KHIII, because  you know it's coming eventually.  i was hoping there'd be news after FFXIII is released.
Pescean

Yeah, the short clips at the beginning of part 2 did no justice on the backstory of CoM (supposely the best one). If you ever get a DS check out either The World Ends With You or Phoenix Wright. I think Phoenix Wright series is probably one of the best games I've played in a while with a great storyline and so many twisted and turns. Get your mom started on that one.

The World Ends with You, honestly, I have it, but never played it: I just think the art looks great, so I just keep it around.
akiahara

phoenix wright?  as in, phoenix wright ace attorney anime, phoenix wright?   Shocked

ah, i've heard of the world ends with you.  it has even more kiddie type art than KH, which is what put me off of the series for so long.  but i've heard good things.  one more game to add to the never ending list of to-be-played.
Pescean

What the hell, there's an anime? Play the game, I don't think anything could do as much justice as the game. A lot of the lines are taken from American Pop culture ( "No Maya, this is SPARTA" or "I know her milkshake rings bring all the boys to the yard." ) It's a classic. You need it.

akiahara wrote:

LMAO!!!!

that was too funny.

Brain Age made sudoku so easy that I can't play it any other way.

That was a good play on words right there.

Made me chuckle.
akiahara

i only knew of the phoenix wright anime... didn't realize it had branched out, though i guess i shouldn't be surprised.  Laughing  i've actually never seen it, either, but i've seen a whole punch of PW cosplayers.

i feel wity, oh so witty, i feel witty... and pretty... and... gay?  Laughing
Babycha

I'm pretty sure Phoenix Wright is only a game. Oh wait, there's a manga too. The games are sooooooo good! If you have a DS you should definitely check them out.
URSwhizkid09

I've wondered if the games were worth anything but after seeing you guys say such good things I may scrounge up the money to buy the latest one.
Babycha

You should! You could probably find a cheap used copy at gamestop. Good ole gamestop.
URSwhizkid09

Definitely but I used to like EB more... ahh well.
Gamestop is good.
akiahara

where did i get that it was an anime?  i could have sworn...

sigh.  sorry about that.

I liked EB better too, but i'm learning to live with Gamestop.

akiahara wrote:

It'd probably be a cool anime. I'm surprised there isn't one already.
Pescean

There's a musical in Japan with an all-female cast. Can't wait to youtube it later.
URSwhizkid09

^^^
Well that'll be interesting to see.

I think games are WAY easier to figure out then women.. no matter what game! LOL!!!!

I'll randomly be at work and think about running around in GOW 2 and planting grenades and such... or Fable II wondering if my 9 wives are pissed.. LOL!

games are GREAT! where would we be without them?  Shocked

I was so into Mass Effect that I almost drove my car off the road because I thought I was in the Mako, I almost turned my car to head onto the hills!

I dream my games, they take over my dreams. Often if I'm trying to complete a challenge that is difficult I'll start working it in my sleep.

I live in a small rural town and even when I lived in a city, I never really did the "scene." I certainly didn't meet many women and never any gamers. I guess it's okay if she's not a gamer as long as she doesn't care that it's what I'm doing. And, if she were a gamer and we liked different games I'd be back with my online buddies quick enough. What if we liked the same game? I guess it would mean consoles in our own rooms so when would we see each other?

Besides I like my own jar of candy.
