What do you look for?

All this talk of wanting to meet people have me thinking what other lesbians really look for in a person.  So, my LG buddies, what do YOU look for in a girl?  What "seals the deal" as far as making you more than interested?  And what automatically makes you NOT interested?
Babycha

They say opposites attract, but I'm looking for someone with similar interests. So a similar music taste or sense of humor are important. It's a huge plus if they're a gamer, comic book/manga fan, or an artist. I can't think of any automatic turn offs at the moment.

*edit*

I'm not a party girl at all, I don't drink or smoke (boring, I know) so if a girl like's to go to clubs or bars and such, that wouldn't work for me Neutral
FallenRose

Yeah, I get ya. =]

I look for similar interests as well but I definately have to say that opposites can attract.  I hate drugs, so they definately can't be into that scene.  I really don't like heavy drinkers.  I like a girl that's smart and wants to eventually go somewhere with her life.  Respectful and open minded.  Nice and sweet helps too.  I definately look for gamer girls but I can settle with someone who at least can bare my geekness and will at least play or watch from time to time.  Especially because I game a lot. XD

DEAL MAKERS

I just want to be with someone that WANTS to be with me, LOL!

Honestly though, I like someone that's affectionate. Hugs, cuddles and kisses go a loooooong way with me, especially when it's one that I didn't initiate. I'll take those over a diamonds, expensive cars and what-not any day! I was joking kind of but I think affection is an important part of showing someone that you WANT to be with them! And I'm not talking full on sex. Sex is great and all but I can feel a person's love more so when it's just a sweet kiss.

An appreciation for music and dance. They don't have to like every single artist I like or be Michael Jackson on the dance floor but I do like to take a spin on the dance floor with my loved one. There's just something about losing yourself in the feel of them being that close to you, almost to the point where the rest of the crowd around you fades away. It's kind of like a secret that know one else knows because YOU'RE the only one in that crowd that gets to hold them that close and sway with them and against them...and take them home, LOL. Mmm...and slow dancing... So good...

Geekery is welcomed but not necessarily expected nor needed, so long as they understand that I have my reasons for liking such things and don't try to make me 'grow up/out of it'. It's something that makes me happy and it doesn't harm anyone so...why would you want to take that away from me?

DEAL BREAKERS

Can't be super materialistic. Sure, we all like our shiny's but apart from the essentials (food and shelter), material things should NOT determine how happy you are. Life is too short to waste worrying about who brings the better toy to the sandbox!

Smoking. No cigarettes. Yes, I smoke hookah but 1) it's actually got a pleasant aroma to it and 2) it's more of a social thing to do rather than a HABITUAL one. Cigarettes are soooooo GROSS. Cigars too. Ick.

Drinking. I like me a good night out and I may drink til I get a bit tipsy but I DO NOT do toilet worshiping DRUNK. KNOW YOUR LIMITS. I mean, if it happens on like...New Years or such, fine but if it becomes a weekend habit, GROSS. Why drink so much that you get sick and/or ootherwise miserable?

Drugs. Now I've dabbled. I had all of 3 pills of E during my raving days and really, that was more than enough. I might be tempted to do it as a special occasion thing again but again, its not a HABIT. Weed, meh. Never really got it and don't really see the appeal in it so would rather not have to deal with it. Anything stronger? DEAL BREAKER.

That's all I can think of for now. Might add to it later.[/u]
Kat_Edw

LOL wow ur all so picky  Shocked Razz joooke. Dont hurt me

Honestly i have no idea what my type is. Im usually an absolute sucker for strong looking girls (mentally i mean i dont have a muscle fetish...i think  Shocked ) and girls with brown eyes. Id like to say i like girls with the same interests as me but looking back at my previous girlfriends that couldnt be more wrong lol. Every girl ive ever dated seriously for over a year or 2 has been really sporty or into martial arts. and BIG weird here...theyve ALL hated video games Shocked  . Id say xbox theyd be like  Rolling Eyes .

They were also a LOT more social than me, ive always been able to count my best friends on one hand. I like small groups but i think of the 3 years i was with my last ex i still didnt meet all her friends. Maybe im one of those opposites attract people or maybe those kinda girls are just attracted to me. I tend to scare away girls who arent stronger or more confident than me since ive always been kinda tall and im an extremely hands-on person. Apparently people get put off by a girl who likes to get things done and doesnt whine about things. Its a gift...or curse i dunno? Yea its deffinately a curse hahaha.

Im very put off by bad habits though. Smoking, excessive drinking and drugs are a HUGE no. I wouldnt even consider a girl if i saw her doing any of those things. Drinking i wouldnt mind at special occasions, but alcoholics are something i avoid like the plague. Dont get me wrong i dont look down at people who do that shit, each to their own. I just can see myself with someone like that.
Im also put off by girls with no honor or morals. Its a simple task to be a good person but so many people fail at it. Why? ill never know.
GeneralPayn

I've never been in an actual relationship so I don't know what I'd look for in someone but I guess someone that's shy and senstivie that likes to be spoiled (because I like to spoil!) who also likes books and such just liek me. I wouldn't mind if she wasn't really into games as long as she was smart enough to enjoy a good book.

As for turn offs...someone that likes to go out partying and drinking. Smoking's a turn off too. Also, I'd hate a girl that thinks reading if for weirdos. I've actaulyl emt a few girls that called me weird because I like to read 0-o
Caelrin

How is reading weird? It can be really fun, though I dont read nearly as much as I should... >.> I have a big list of stuff I need to catch up on reading, but I doubt I will ever finish it due to how little I read. :/

Anyways, for turn ons/musts:

I need to have someone who is intelligent, I dont think I could ever date anyone who I considered dumb. Also, it is really nice to be able to talk about politics/religion/etc etc etc.

Ideally I would want to date someone who is physically active, sports, martial arts, camping, hiking or what not. I love doing that sort of stuff, but I have never really had anyone to do it with.

And of course, I would love it if they played games, though really I dont think I want to date someone who plays as much as I do. I want someone who gets out of the house and can drag me along with sometimes, as I have a hard time going out to do stuff on my own.

I could not date someone who:
Did not appreciate gaming/nerd culture

Heavy drinker/partier/drug user. I think I am noticing a common trend with this one, that most of us dont want someone who is using drugs which I think is pretty cool!

Wanna come to my place sometime?  Wink I know exactly what u mean though. I LOVE playing rugby and tennis and going to the gym. I think id have to have a gf like that too. Maybe thats why all my gfs have always been like that. I havent been in a team since high school, but i still enjoy sports...and watching other girls doing sports HIGH 5!
Meeks

someone who will love me! ^_^ heh. that's the main thing.

but other than that..just someone who have some interests as me! and to be able to actually chill and be open with. sorta like a friend?

I don't seem to like girls who is all about themselves..and well. pretty much,. is all about "looking good for everyone" like..D: not for herself. but for others? you know? D:  person who can't make decisions..
Rynnbow

Hmmm I drink and like going out.... I suddenly realize why I am single >.>
Vickie

I'm a bit of an intelligencist </not proud> so anyone who fails to stimulate me intellectually immediately disqualifies. I'm also a semi-linguist, non-smoker, atheist and a very, very logical person. I can't date anyone who's superstitious. I also dislike people who focus only or mainly on superficial qualities. No, "but I think you're pretty" doesn't mean anything to me. I don't expect to change anyone in a relationship so it's hard for me to like anyone who expects to change me that way. Like nekotine, geekery is a bonus but not necessary.

And this probably explains why I've been single for so long. Razz
Babycha

Rynnbow wrote:

hahaha! Nothing wrong with being social!
I like going out and doing things with other people, but I don't really go anywhere by myself. I HATE going out by myself. Lots of annoying people tend to bother me Neutral

In fact, I'd have to be with somebody at least a little outgoing, because I'm not outgoing at all (by myself), I need a partner in crime.
chie

I have a penchant for relatability. I mean, really. It's the best trigger to get me talking. I'm severely shy, so conversation doesn't come easy unless I feel that I've clicked with someone. Whether it's common interests or similar personality traits/humor/etc -- I just need someone who "gets" it and vice versa. Otherwise, I just feel like a nuisance or, weirdly enough, an outcast within a relationship. Yes. Yes, I do feel perpetually single because of this.

The negatives, the positives:

( + ) gamer. animanga fan. reader. a sweet cutesy pie.  and bonus geeker points if she role plays.

( - ) heavy boozer. superficial. pothead. heavy smoker.
nekotine

Rynnbow wrote:

LOL I don't hate drinking. That'd be pretty damn hypocritical of me if I said such a thing!

I love going out and having a good time with my friends and coworkers, whether it's a club or bar or whatever, but again, it's a matter of being responsible, for yourself and your friends, and knowing your limits. I do find it kinda annoying if it seems like we have to drink -EVERY- time we go out though. It's like 'Geez...are you that dependent on liquid courage to have good time?' Not to mention a single night of drinking can drain an entire check away once you factor in the cover to get in, food and gas/transportation.

...then again, I can drain an entire paycheck on a single night out to a musical as well so yeah...
Blind_Monkey

Well let's see. A main thing for me is that the girl has to get my sense of humor, and that I like to be really silly and make lots of jokes. I'm rarely ever serious, so they have to understand that when I make a comment, its usually a joke. They would also have to like my friends. If they can't get along with my friends, then we'd have a problem.

They would have to understand they my job is everything to me. I love every minute of my job. And yes I would try to make time for them, but at the same time my chosen career takes a lot of my time. As a chef apprentice I spend a lot if time at work. I usually work 10hrs everyday, 5-6 days a week. And when I do eventually get my own restaurant, I'll be putting even more time in.

As for things I don't really like. Someone that is always sad/mad. I like to be happy, and like to make other people happy. Smoking isn't really a big deal to me, everyone I work with smokes, so I'm kinda use to it, though I never picked up the habit. Like just about everyone else, no drugs and heavy drinking. I like to go out after work sometimes and have a few beers with the people I work with.

I think that pretty much sums it up. I'm definitely more picky than I thought.    Wink

Not the first time someone has said that to me for the same reason. Unfortunately I feel I'm to young to get married. Wink  But if you love food a really good cook book that i absolutely love is "The Sugar Club' by Peter Gordon. Surprisingly not a pastry book. It was hard for me to find, I ended up buying a used copy and it was so worth it.
Kat_Edw

Crying or Very sad I am a terrible cook. Its horrible. I am a pro at chicken, anything chicken lol but other than that? NO. I have an absolute fetish for women who cook hahahaha. I swear if a girl cooks for me its love. Maybe im mentally a little on the manly side.

Chicken is delicious, I absolutely love it stuffed with goat cheese. Then again, just about anything with goat cheese is delicious. I see, well I do love to cook, but I think that's the first time anyone has told they have a fetish for cooks.

I drink, i used to smoke, i still occaisionally smoke weed, i go out to pubs blah blah blah. Its just about having a good time. Is that all there is to me? heck no! I also hike, mtn bike, abseil, canoe, read, game, discuss politics, discuss shit, talk shit, eat shit.  Razz

I like women who are chilled out and interested in living life. I couldnt care less if once a year i hold her head over a toilet bowl because she's had too  much too drink so long as the following wkend we're down sth camping on the beach or something. Its all good by me.

Pet hates are arrogance and suffocation, ie, i like time alone with my friends and my family occaisionally i dont need you by my side 24/7.
Nimbo

Honestly i never look for anything special. There's the basic stuff that every living breathing human being wants- a sense of humour, not clingy and all that shit.. but that said i have never really gone "I want a blonde haired, blue eyed martial artist that larfs at my jokes."
I kinda just go with the flow xD

I'm going to agree with Kat about cooking, I can't really cook much... or maybe I can, but I'm too lazy to try. So someone who cooks would be great.

A deal breaker would be dishonesty. I couldn't date someone who constantly lies or embellishes their stories.
NightSky

omg, I was all reading this thread all nice and innocently on my couch and this huge freaking spider decides it's snuggle time. Not cool man! lol Anyways, well I have a lot different outlook on dating right now. I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo over LTRs right now (can you tell that I'm really over it? haha). 7 1/2 yrs is hardcore especially since I didn't even really have an "out" time before it, so I'm looking to have fun and that's it! I don't drink or smoke or do drugs but going to clubs and getting dance sweaty with girls freaking rocks man.  Cool lol It's looking like a strong possibility that I will end up going to school in SF, so it's all workin' out well.
-Marin-

Well, I'm a very calm and shy person, so I'm not into going to clubs, dancing or that sort of stuff. I like to go out for dinner, go to cinema, spend a nice evening at home, watching a movie or playing some games. So I would like to find a girl that is more introverted than extroverted (hard to find, if both are...), likes art and games and philosophises about life.
Eeh... I don't do drugs, I don't smoke or drink alcohol, so it would be nice to have a girlfriend that thinks alike.
I hate romance... It's much better to show love the creative way than bring some flowers  or just say "I love you", but at the same time I believe at the one and only love. I can't kiss or sleep with a girl if there are no real feelings. Many people think I'm too prude to ever find a girlfriend Wink
As for the body~ I have a fetish for backs and necks. I always turn my head when I see a girl with a beautiful back. But altogether it's totally unimportant what she looks like.

Your lucky! I've been looking for a while, found a girl that just took my breath away. But she ended up being flakey and got my hopes crushed. And what's worse is I was her supervisor so when my store manager (worked at starbucks) heard we kissed when some co-workers and I went out, she transferred me. And my manager was never okay with the fact that I was gay so it really sucked!
But still looking for the right girl that not only make me double take from her beauty but blow me away with conversation. Not picky on looks but I gotta say...I love nerds, and I'm a sucker for eyes! Oh yeah! Preferably living on the same continent! Lol

for me a lot is in the eyes, I think you can see so much in them.

I enjoy a good gig now n then, but not huge on clubs never have been, I would rather go for a meal or drink, a trip to the cinema, but my fave place is the great outdoors. Sitting on a fallen tree in the middle of a forest after a walk or cycle ride with all that is great and wonderful surrounding you.

I love cooking, and as yet I'm glad to say none of my friends have died from my culinary creations, in fact most of them love my cooking and make excuses to pop over as they know I'll offer them food Razz  I like spicy stuff myself, but alwyas like to try new stuff, meddle with recipes, and do some of the more traditional stuff too.

And finally I am bonkers, I love to laugh and make other laugh or smile at least and always have things popping into my head, characters, comedy sketches, poems stories... friends keep telling me to do stuff with them all but  always feel they're just not good enough .. My humour has got me through a lot in life and I hope it never leaves for distant shores as i get older.

But if you love food a really good cook book that i absolutely love is "The Sugar Club' by Peter Gordon. Surprisingly not a pastry book. It was hard for me to find, I ended up buying a used copy and it was so worth it.

I love cookbook recommendations since I'm working towards becoming a chef myself. I'll have to try find a copy of this, I looked it up and it seems like theres some South Asian influences in a lot of the recipes; I try to do a lot of Asian and Indian fusion in the food I make.

Anywho, back on topic. I've pretty much found what I look for, but I guess I'll say what it is I look for just for the heck of it. I enjoy someone who likes sci fi, literature, and video games. Them not caring or liking how big of a nerd I can be is a plus. I have to be able to talk to them, and really just enjoy myself around them. They could be the worlds biggest sci fi fan but if I don't get along with them its over. I don't like people who smoke excessively or do drugs. But like I said I found someone.  Smile

Hmm it seems i might have derailed the topic a bit, i guess i'm just that smack-able xD

On-topic:
I look for someone that "gets" me, someone who i click with and who makes me want to be a better person. She doesn't have to have the same hobbies as me, she doesn't have to spend every minute with me. She can talk about anything and still make me intrigued. I'll want to do stupid things to make her happy and i'll enjoy it. She can handle my sense of humour. I'll want to hear every tiny detail, dream, hope and thought she has ever had in return she'll make me want to tell every embarrasing thing i've ever experienced.. I'm all about the personality Wink

i would never derail a topic! *whistles innocently* and somehow my post ended up waaaaaaay later than intended!

and after dealing with two girls who somehow though they should become my number one person above my friends (whove i've known between 7 and 10+ years ) and i've known the girlie-friends less than like 2 years. oh an no more clingy-ness.. i'm sorry when i get busy i dont always wanna deal with a needy girlfriend!
but really i think i could be ok with most anything else!

i am really into personality and am DONE with clingy. but i get along with all kinds of people but i suposse i was exaggerating but i ment  as long as the person doesnt completly drain my mental energy. it is also possible that in trying not to be picky i'm hoping the 'one' will just fall into my lap XD

I know what you mean.  Unfortunately, clingy is very common it seems.

I can bear some.

But my ex didn't know the meaning of "needing some space."

yeah and some can just make it worse by laying on the guilt when you ask for space! ugh. girls can be so silly and by silly i mean passive aggressive and mean.
