That's because the game is modeled after Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Not Mass Effect like everyone thought.
I've played KOTR, it's basically the same with Dragon Age as far as dialogue goes.

LOL go for it...u wont regret it no matter how much money it FUCKING COSTS YOU.  I hate being forced to keep up with human evolution.
The voice thing though? It was so misleading haha. I had great joy in choosing my rather annoying sounding voice...now im pissed off coz she only talks when im annoyed with her. I just wish i could go back and make her mute now lol.
I hated KOTOR. Probably the only human in existence to say that lol but i only played it for th first time like last year and so there was no nostalgia to make up for the crappy graphics. I couldnt bare it.

Yea, KOTR wasn't my favorite game either...
I only played it cause my bro was like DO IT NAO!!?
But the lack of in-game dialogue on Dragon Age isn't really that big of an issue with me.
Long as I get to hear Liliana and Morrigan bicker, I'm good. XD
BUT it WILL piss me off if my character can't talk in Mass Effect 2.

Uhhhh...I hate to break it to you guys but I'm 98% sure you can't get with Morrigan if your character is a girl( a shame I know). I wasted all my gifts on her -_-.
Leliana is actually the girl on girl relationship option...I hated her at first but I'm almost done the game and she's super cool. Won't ruin anything for you guys though.
