So, the game is coming out in a couple of days, and I was wondering if anyone here was planning to get and play it?
I know me and one of my good friends are getting it and will be playing together, and would love to have more people to be able to play with.

Steam is an online game distribution/game social networking tool.
It is REALLY awesome as it allows you to invite friends to games, buy games and download them, as well as a bunch of other nifty stuff. IMO it is one of the best things to have for any PC gamer.
http://store.steampowered.com/ if you want to check it out. |

Sooooooo...I wonder why they decided to go with GameSpy instead of Steam to do the online games? I've never seen any other games use GameSpy before so it's just a bit odd to me.
Anyways, I like the game so far though it does take some getting used to. The necessity to actively aim/zoom in to get a decent shot in is...different. I suppose that's why they put it on right mouse rather than using it for melee as per usual. Not a bad thing but again, just something I had to get used to.
While the game does have a single player mode, once you get to the first boss fight, I think that's where it really shows that the game is really meant to be played co-op. I consider myself to be a bit more than a casual gamer and even for me, the first fight seemed a bit unbalanced for a single player, having a boss with a shield and 2 skags that, for lack of a better word, seemed to be 'elite' rather than a normal. I kissed floor quite a few times before figuring out a cheesy way to do it, and I was doing it as a lvl 5 soldier. Maybe I should've gone out and leveled more since one of the guns I got from the grave of TK's wife was a lvl 6 rifle? *shrug*
One other thing that kinda irks me is the lack of a key bind for healing items. Or should I say ITEM since you're only allowed to carry one at a time? What RPG only allows you to carry a single healing item, them requires you to go into your inventory screen to use it these days?!
And okay, I can understand mobs still being able to attack you when you're in a shop but when you're in you status/inventory/map/etc menu? That generally counts as a 'pause' function but not here? Geh...
Regardless of my complaints about the game, I am still enjoying it and look forward to doing some multiplayer runs with people since boss fights seem to hand my ass to me like it's going out of business. _________________

Yeah the first boss was definitely interesting, I personally had a lot of fun fighting him as a Siren... Though that was mostly just drop all my grenades on them, shoot them, then run around invis when my shields went low. Eventually going to kiting the skrags to survive.
Though I do have agree, so far the single player is a TON of fun. However, the multiplayer pisses me off because it just DOESNT WORK! Me and some friends tried to get it to work, but it requires some port stuff, and well my ISP just doesnt work for anything connecting to me, another friend who is on campus and doesnt control it, and another who should be able to, but even following all the directions it wouldnt work.
This game would be AMAZING for multiplayer, but it just doesnt work! Oh yeah, and for the joining of a public game, the game FREEZES when you go to the listing for them... Ugh, some serious flaws that need to be worked out! And if they can manage to fix them it would be an absolutely wonderful game! |

Yeah, I really wish they had given us the option of using either GameSpy or Steam because having to adjust ports and crap to do multiplayer is just a bit asinine. Thankfully, one of my friends was able to do it so we were able to play together but I guess at some point, I should put those settings in too to be fair. Just couldn't do it at the time since other people in the house were using their computers and I didn't want to randomly shut them off from the internet when it has to reboot to make the changes.
Multiplayer is DANG FUN though. I played as Siren until my friends got to lvl 6, then I switched to Roland for some turret-y good action! My friends played as Mordecai and Siren so save for a tank, we were pretty well off. We kissed ground every now and then but no super wipes thankfully. We managed to get to lvl 11 before it was time for people to sleep for work and such. Good, good times!
Anyhow, to add to the list of small complaints...what is with the steering with the mouse?! I mean, steering with ASWD keeps things simple and well...standard. And the guns on the vehicles are kinda weaksauce too. Most of the time, it's easier just to ram or run over whatever it is that's attacking you. If you do go with a weapon though, go with the rocket launcher.
Anyhow, my GameSpy ID is askfortrouble if anyone wants to do some multiplayer! Add me if you like! Although, I'm sure at some point, L4D2 demo will eat my soul... _________________

Yeah, the mouse for steering is definitely weak, and I have to agree with the running things over being WAY easier. It really doesnt matter how tough the thing is, just run it over and you kill it and free XP. :/
I will be sure to add you next time I am in, my ID is Caelrin.
