Basically it's running to the finish line in a closed track... some areas are more open than others so you can attempt 'shortcuts'. Water slows you down, as does knocking into stuff. There are 8 skills you can use if you get them... you only start with 3, that are usable once and are refreshed at checkpoints. You can enable the other 5 skills by hitting boxes to get the 'powerups'. These are usually a little bit out of the way.
There are some tight corners but it's not a tricky track... once you run it a few times you should get a feel for where the powerups are and where you can cut corners. It's a lot like Mario Kart to me... everyone's grouped together and spam their attacks... whoever gets away from the pack should be able to place easily.
