Ok, I've got to know. When you hear "lesbian", what do you think?
A lot of times, people are surprised I'm not interested in guys when I like all these cute things. I have a pink DS. XD haha, it's my favorite color. So stereotypical, right? *cough*
Anyway, I think if it weren't for videogames, I would have no guy friends at all. But this is also bad because hardly any girls play, so that complicates things a little. Gah, I really don't know what category I'm supposed to fit into.
Usually, I've found, when girls hear that L word, they think "butch", but when I ask a guy about it, they think "hot". It's kind of funny.
How many of you are actually "butch"?
Posted mainly out of curiousity, but partly because I'm doing my final project on it. Fufu... Yeah. Also posted here because I don't think this fits anywhere else. ^^; |

I'm not butch... I took the lesbian test thing and apparently I'm a "Portia" lol Which means people wouldn't know I was gay unless it was pointed out.. which is a little annoying, but I'm not going to shave my head so I 'look' like a lesbian.. whatever a lesbian looks like lol
Oh well. Don't try and fit into a category, just be happy with what / who you are. Well other than the lesbian category if that's what you are.. I wouldn't worry about all the other categories attached to that.

Hey I'm not butch, maybe inside, but I don't feel comfy being butch outside. Not for any reason other than I like having my long hair. I think everyone just has to be who they are. I love butch girls or femme girls, makes no difference to me to be honest,
I think some people are just more comfy being a certain way. Although I have to say I really would like to get my hair cut short because let's face it.. sometimes it just gets in the way.. ahem.. |

Wow.
I've really been thinking about this kind of thing lately.
Last week, a neighbor told me "You don't look like a lesbian."
So that got my brain churning about what a lesbian looks like and stereotypes and how so many people have a need to stuff everyone into a neatly defined catagory in an effort to make their world feel orderly and safe...blah blah blah...
But then I concluded, she was just wrong. I look exactly like a lesbian because I am a lesbian and this is what I look like. So F**k stereotypes!
I prefer leather to lace, but I'm certainly not butch. I wear a leather jacket but it has a long fringe. My is hair long but I hate fooling with it so it's usually a mess. I like soft, girly tops, but I wear them with jeans and sneakers. I'm a left-wing, pagan, leather dyke with with dreams of a lesbian utopia that I know will never come true. I drive a chevy not a harley or a subaru. I like S&M on a Saturday night and play D&D on a Sunday afternoon. I drink tea not coffee, have 4 cats and 0 dogs, wtach sci-fi, anime, and anything with Sandra Bulloch on TV. And I love playing computer games in my own personal spaceship in my basement.
So, that's what this lesbian looks like. _________________ Margali

People tend to see me and know...I've hated stereotypical girly things since I was young. No dolls and playing house for me...I was out in my creek catching salamanders and playing in the sandbox with trucks. I hated dresses and skirts and still do. I've been called "sir" and "mr" accidentally quite a few times in the last 2-3 years, so...take that as you will. Although, I just let people think what they will, I hate labels like that. Though I will admit to being a metal-head, geek-gamer, computer-nerd and WoW addict. _________________

great topic! since my move Mass I have been working very hard to avoid lables....
But i guess they are unavoidable in society....so here is my breakdow:
I have always been a tomboy growing up.....did my girly make up and clothes thing during my teens.....i came out of the closet twice....the final time was at 18....shortly there after i chopped my hair off....i love it...tried growing it back a few times for all the wrong reasons....i am just more comfortable with it super short.....i do get get called sir....it doesn't bother me at all.....i am def not butch though....even though i get sterotyped as one do to my guyish apearence....i consider myself androgynos....i am into sports, outdoors, video games, and beer but i also enjoy watching the clouds, meditation, reading and writing....my dream car is an SUV (i miss the one i use to have...damn gas prices) also since my move to Mass i have really been exploring the trans and genderqueer community......due to some of my own internal confusion.....currently i consider myself a genderqueer lesbian.....i am leagally married to a lesbian.....i have two cats and a tortoise though i would perfer a housefull of dogs.....i enjoy all people in the GLBT spectrum....i am not one of those bisexual hating lesbians....lol there was quite a crowd of those where i use to live....i have been with both men and women and i just perfer the ladies like a million times more...so thats who do my thing with :0) |

Hardly any of my 'friends' (not sure I'd call them that, seeing as I never really do anything with them) know I'm a lesbian. Although I think if I told them, no one would be too shocked. I live in a small town, so it's generally unacceptable to be gay. And just about everyone I know is a Christian (me included - although they would probably tell you I can't be gay and a Christian), and will preach at me about going to hell. Bleh.
Anyway, I've always been a tomboy. I have short, funky hair (it's bleached blonde on top, and black on the bottom), and my wardrobe consists of band t-shirts, jeans, vans or converses, and my white studded belt (never go anywhere without it). Guess I kinda have an emo look. I sometimes wear a black blazer over my t-shirt too. When I get 'dressed up', I'll wear like, a black button down shirt with a white tie. I need to buy more skinny ties. They're hard to find though (for me anyway).
But Margali, you're right. No matter what we all wear, we all 'look' like lesbians, because we are!

I hate stereotypes but I fall into many. In terms of identity, I'd say I'm more androgynous than anything else. It was like a question I got asked by an acquaintance, what do you i.d with first (in terms of race, religion, sexuality etc....) My answer....lesbian before birth, Nigerian born, Raised a muslim, still a muslim, fabulous by choice lol.... |

Heh, hard to tell what "label" I am. Personally, I don't like labels, since it's just an easy way to categorize everyone when it's not even possible.
Anyway, I'm the kind of girl who likes the darker things in life. In love with horror and the macabre. Not necessarily goth, since it's become a silly little fashion trend that every depressed teenager with a livejournal account wants to emulate. I like to say that I'm the kind of person that can see beauty in destruction.
I have both "butch" and "femme" qualities. I'm a geek, a practitioner of the Asatru religion, a b*tch, a gamer, a somewhat feminist, a republican hater, a metal head, etc etc.
That, along with being a lesbian, makes up who I am.
I must say though, I'm kinda embarrassed about my lack of fashion sense |
