I've read a couple volumes of Welcome to the NHK, maybe not enough to get into it but maybe I'll have to give it another try.

It took me a while to get into Welcome to the NHK. The lolita complex and ero games in the beginning almost made me stop reading, but a friend told me it was good, so I stuck with it. I can't remember exactly when it all became funny . . . maybe after the main character meets the girl he liked in high school? I remember it became funny to me when he went with the girl to an island, thinking its was going to be a romantic getaway, but it turned out to be something completely different. I think thats when I started to like it.

I read more of Animal X, and I really tried to like it, but I could not get into it. It's just so violent . . . there's dinosaurs eating people, rape. and sometimes it was boring. There were history lessons of the dinosauraids (or whatever they're called), and I generally skipped those parts. The gender bender aspect of it is ok, and I got more interested in it after the first part of the series, mainly in the relationship between the two guys. I thought I might be ok with the manga at that point, but then, more people eating, more rape. I just could not deal with it.

Oh good to know, maybe I'll give NHK another try Very Happy

Has anyone seen the anime 5 centimeters Per Second? It's made by the same guy who did Voices of a Distant Star. I remember the previews for it, but I haven't seen it yet.

I've never heard of Light Novels before, is it like a doujinshi? So I suppose that you have to be somewhat familiar with the series before reading them?  Embarassed

Light Novels are pretty much just pocket sized novels of a series. Most of the newer series started out as light novels such as Suzumiya Haruhi, Shakugan no Shana, and Spice and Wolf. While I love anime and manga, there's a delightful connection you get to the story by reading the light novels. Thus far, I think Seven Seas and Viz are the top two publishers that are releasing light novels.

...I'm reading the second volume of Strawberry Panic right now.. and OMG is it intense. The story is different from the anime and longer than the manga.

http://www.baka-tsuki.net/project/index.php?title=Main_Page Baka-Tsuki translates a lot of light novels and some games. They've got almost all the volumes of Suzumiya Haruhi posted and you can read them online. I'm getting all into Fate/Zero, the prequel to Fate/Stay Night.  Very Happy

Here's a great gender bender I stumbled across on  http://Onemanga.com  today, it's called Hourou Musuko. I recommend it to all the manga fans.

Quote:
Summary
Shuichi Nitori is a 5th grade student who likes to bake and has always been something of a feminine boy. When he transfers to a new school, Shuichi is mistaken for his 6th grade sister on his first day. Then he ends up sitting next to Yoshino Takatsuki, a tall, boyish girl who everyone calls "Takatsuki-kun." They both have secrets they can't let anyone know....

Not the hugest anime fan here, but there was one anime cartoon I was crazy about when I was a kid. Watched all seasons. It's called Saint Seiya, can anyone remember it? I had tons of Saint Seiya action figures when I was like 8. Surely the only reason I didn't get beat up at school was because I was a girl, cause I had "geek" written all over me.

lol i haven't watched it but i know what Saint Seiya is so don't worry, yuna. :3

5cm Per Second is a BEAUTIFUL movie. as are all of Shinkai Makoto's work really but yeah. n.n; i think it's my personal favorite over Hoshi no Koe/Voices of a Distant Star and Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Bashou/The Place Promised in Our Early Days. it just seemed like he put a lot more of himself into it as it was supposed to kind of be a reflection of how because pretty much constantly at work, he felt he was becoming more distant from his wife, and you can really feel the sorrow he feels from being away from the person he loves. absolutely beautiful. :3

if you happened to like any of his films, i would definitely recommend seeing Toki o Kakeru Shoujo.

Welcome to the NHK i haven't gotten around to watching though i do have all the episodes. it just didn't grab me as fast as Genshiken or Lucky Star as far as the whole 'embrace your g33k/otakuness!' type of series but i'll get around to it eventually.

oh and by the way, Shoujo Sect now has a short oav animated series, with the first part already out. i'm...trying my best to translate it but it's slow with work and all. ~_~; anyhow, the couplings stay true to the manga though they added a bit more dialogue and some of the sexual encounters have been modified to fit  the new stuff. nothing...too major i guess but as someone who translated the manga, it's kinda like 'nnnuuuuoooo~ why did you change that~?!' XD

as for the sex scenes themselves, they're...okay. it comes off as more like B film sex at times, showing just enough but never getting too detailed like the manga did. it's somewhat disappointing considering the studio that worked on it also did titles like Black Bible but then again, there were sex scenes in Black Bible that weren't animated all that well either so meh... it just would've been nice to finally have a full-on lesbian hentai for once, rather than just the one to two scenes of a lesbian couple within a majority of hetero sex scenes. *sigh* ah well, maybe there will be improvements in the next 2 OAVs...i hope. Sad

What, no explicit sex in the Shoujo Sect anime? That's no fun at all. Sad
