| As I've told most people who know me, thoughts of Dune occupy at the very least 10% of my waking hours every day. I'd be interested to know the opinions of the membership of this site of the series. I personally find that (especially in the later books) the series is overflowing in positive female characters, and that it is overall an excellent series. |

| I really liked dune but then got stuck after the first two or three sequels. I may go and check them out again though, it's been a while! |

Woah! I just ordered the first 2 books in the series and I'm planning to read them during my 2 weeks vacation.
I was looking for some kind of space-sci-fi-book to get me off Battlestar Galactica and I had no idea what to read.
Dune seemed like a evident choice.
Can't wait to get them! _________________ - Kin Corn Karn "A winner is you"

It's an epic story about dependance on oil, conflicts rooted in cultuarl differences and the way in which men and women see the world in fundamentally different ways which shapes our lives.
Books 5 and 6 are by far my favorite as they expose the inner workings of the Bene Gesserit. Anyone reading the first book should keep in mind that the painting of the BG as villians is on the part of the Male characters who really just don't understand what is best for them and can't handle the idea that their own self-destructive path might not be the best way to go about things, it has nothing to do with the way the author thinks of them. |

I read the first two books but I never got around to finishing the series I actually want to but my attention span is dwindling lately and I don't think I'd absorb as much as I'd like ><
That and Sci-Fi books are not easy to find here : / I found the first one by accident in a random store, the other two I own I got in NY. _________________

| I love the dune books, I remember reading them in highschool but I never got passed the 3rd book, I think the fourth book was too political or something but I stopped reading. I always loved the bene gesserit (villain or not) so maybe I should look into finishing the series. |

Ask any Dune fan what their least favorite book is by Frank Herbert, and that would be book 4, God Emperor of Dune. Since the titular character is a living God who has stewed in his own mind for thousands of years it is actually slow on purpose. I barely made it through and found myself skimming some chapters.
You can just skip to Heretics and Chapterhouse since they look at the events in book 4 as history long since passed. |
