I just wanted to share my joy at finishing Mass Effect last night. Ya know I posted about this at my main forum and the response was dire. There is nothing worse than being totally excited and happy about something only to have other people show no love for that fact lol ...So pathetically I've limped over here to say 'I finished Mass Effect' and it was an awesome gaming experience.

I hope that if a few of you get it we can actually chat about it in here... or even if you don't have it but want to chat about it. I don't mind.

Ooooooooo looks like this might be a slow burner as people pick up their copies this week. Looking forward to hearing what people have to say about this one.

It takes a while to get into it because there's no tutorial really, but stick with it and when it all falls into place you will begin to see what makes this game so cool. It took me a few hours to 'get it', probably around 5?. To finish it without doing EVERYTHING, but also without rushing through took about 20 hours.

I just thought the controls were similar to most third person titles, like GRAW and those. For levelling up, don't worry about it too much at first, then spend your experience on things you think you'll use the most, I was a soldier so for me it was all the weapons skills. Also don't forget to level up your team when you get them and check you all have the best possible armor and weapon. I didn't realise how to do that until I was like 10 hours in!!! lol.

I love this game so much! I've played for like 26 hours but am only like halfway done. I'm one of those people who has to do everything. On top of that, I just always play games very slowly and cautiously--I really hate dying.

Mass Effect isn't really like Halo at all; it's very much an rpg. I use the in combat pause all the time to micro-manage my party's abilities and whatnot. Also, I'm playing as a biotics speceialist, so I don't do much running and gunning anyway. And yeah, since it's an rpg, you have to manage your inventory and make sure you have all the proper stuff equipped (armor-piercing ammunition for mechanical enemies instead of anti-personal ammo).

Yay!!!
Glad you're feeling the Mass Effect love Kerrigan. I'm totally stunned more grrls aren't playing this game to death given the cool dykey commander.

I'm going to play it through again I think and be a total bitch to see how it differs (I was really nice the first time through).

How are the biotics? I never used them, I think I might do that as well next time I play through.

The biotic powers are so much fun to use! It's just so satisfying to set enemies off flying all over the battlefield. Once you get powered up and get your prestige class, you're pretty much unstoppable. The only real weakness biotics have is against enemies that are in fixed positions like turrets or enemies that float of their own power like drones; you can't use 3 of your main powers (lift, throw or singularity) to their full effects against those enemies. Fortunately, I haven't found myself in that situation too often.

You have to use the quick-pause feature a lot more if you specialize in tech or biotics to select what powers you're going to use, but since I'm more of an rpg than fps gamer, that doesn't bother me at all. I've actually started using a party with two biotics and one techy and haven't had any problems.

I always play through nice the first time; I have such a hard time be evil in video games. I don't know why; I have no problem being evil in real life.

I was planning on playing some sort of tech class next, but how was playing playing a combat class? The only weapon I've even had a chance to use is the pistol; do the others handle very differently?

i totally pre-ordered the game and picked it up the day it came out...and was immediately sidetracked by rockband. i popped in the game yesterday and i have to say it ate up my entire sunday afternoon/evening/early monday morning. i finally got off the citadel, but i finished up all the sidequests within. i can't just leave stuff like that hanging. plus i put a ton of points into intimidation and have been bullying people around.

i already LOVE this game. LOOOOVE. it's definitely one i will be playing through multiple times. characters, storyline, dialogue...all great so far. it took me a while to figure out where all the inventory was which was a bit frustrating...and driving the vehicle once you touched down on a planet. like whoa.

unfortunately i have two weeks of school left (complete with tests and papers) and then finals...so this might sit around for a while...

I'm in the same situation. Fortunately, I can't afford Rock Band, so there will be no other games distracting me from Mass Effect once my schedule opens up a bit (at least I'm able to put a positive spin on lack of money).[/i]
