Our TV went out a few months ago so my Sweety and I have been saving up to buy a new one. We're looking to get a big flat screen thing and do a sort of home theater.
We've done a little research and are thinking about a Panasonic plasma, 42 or 50 inch.
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has any experiences or advice to relate on the subject. This is a pretty big expenditure for us so we're trying to be cautious.
Thanks _________________ Margali

not sure about Panasonic but i know i haven't people complain about their Samsung monitors or flat screens. i could ask the AV guys at work what seems to be the better brand of them all without breaking the bank. are there any features that you're especially wanting for it? like DVI/HDMI inputs in the back and such? _________________ Currently stuck on:

We bought a 50" LG and the batch released has some software glitch, we're still trying to get it fixed. Yes LG were swift to set up a home service for free where the guy comes out, hooks up the TV to his laptop and does a software update, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
Other than this it is a good TV for the money, but the fact it loses the HD signal now and again can be really annoying (especially if you're watching something!!). I'm assuming they've since fixed it in later models, but be ware if a store is offering you a fantastic deal for a 50" LG.. check the model number and look it up online first.
Good luck!! I'm sure you'll love it when you get it, it's great for gaming and movies! |

I've heard that Plasma TVs are a bit easier on the eyes because they don't have the florescent light behind it that LCDs do, but are still pretty expensive. I'm looking to get my Mom a new TV soon because hers is pretty small and not compatible with the digital conversion going through in the US in a year or so, anyway. But everything is so expensive if I want something bigger than the 20" CRT she already has. I've noticed that a 26" widescreen really isn't any bigger, picture-wise, than than 20' box screen she has, so I'd have to get at least a 30' since it seems all the new TVs are widescreen.

We got a Samsung 50" plasma with a Yamaha surround sound system. It's very cool, but wow, expensive. Ended up spending about $3000 on the whole package. Now we're talking about redoing part of the basement into a home theater. (Which means ALOT of work for me ) _________________ Margali

oooh sounds awesome, Margali. well, minus having to reorganize stuff. n.n;
...y'know, in theory, you could probably use the Samsung as a monitor as it likely has a DVI or HDMI connection in the back... imagine raiding/PvPing on that baby! XD _________________ Currently stuck on:

a really good HDTV flatscreen is from the company Vizio
they're like #1 in hdtv's and are a lot cheaper. smart marketing?
mine for exmaple haha my parents weren't letting me go over $450 for a tv, so basically all i could get was a 20 inch samsung or a 20 inch LG.
vizio 26 inch was $450
my friend's vizio 32inch was a lot cheaper then the samsung/panasonic/philips/whatever tvs too
its a really great tv
you should look into that |
