I love Megami Tensei!!!!! But I have a bit of a beef with Persona 3. While definately a unique twist on the schoolhouse occult mystery rpg genre Persona pretty much created, it was a pretty big dissappointment story and presentation-wise after Atlus set the high bar with Nocturne and Persona 2 Tsumi/Batsu Devil-Summoner and Avatar Tuner weren't as good as they should have been either, but at least they were had tight gaming mechanics and some gorgeous areas to explore. With only one dungeon and a system that forceably breaks up the action into 15-30 minute chunks, it was hard to find myself immersed in the game. And the story wasn't nearly as dark or deep as it needed to be to make me happy...
Persona 4, from what I played last year at Game Show, is exactly the same system and production values in slightly tweaked packaging
Even my glasses fetish can't make me shell out the 6,000 yen for a copy. ATLUS owes us better -- enough with the rehash! We've been looking at Nocturne monster models on PS2 for 5 years!!!
I just can't get into the dating sim mechanic... especially when combat and storytelling is so weak T.T
I'm waiting for ATLUS to jump to next gen and remake some of their older classics for DS and PSP. I'm more excited about the Persona spin-off coming to DS next year, truth be told. |

hmmm... really interesting thoughts here! luckily for me, i started with persona 3 FES, so persona four can only be a step up! i actally love the dating sim mechanic, but i can totally see how you could dislike it if the series didnt have it before, just go with it and dont fight it... it's the only way to get through something like that!
but anyway, IM TOTALLY getting this game (which so far looks WAY better than P3!), and then im going to check out the first two and see what all the fuss is about!
oh man im so excited for it! _________________ Go ahead, T-bag me. I like it. |

Don't bother with Persona, the controls are so clunky it makes it nearly unplayable in retrospect. Hoping for a PSP remake one of these days to update the controls.
The localization in the US is also easily one of the worst localizations in the history of video games. The translation resembles the original very little It isn't worth playing, it'll only make you angry.
Persona 2 is split into two halves in Japan -- but thanks to nazis, homosexuals and rather screwed up child murder -- the US only saw the 2nd half (Batsu) released as "Persona 2" on the PS1. That localization is actually really very good (if lazy). Unfortunately, you're missing the first half of the story |

I've played through nocturne and p3:fes, I liked them both a lot.
Its been annoying trying to get p4 though. >> I seriously regret not pre-ordering it now. |

i wondered why they didn't do this... seems silly to me. nothing wrong with the PS2, but i do believe it's time to move on, and i think it's definitely time for a next gen SMT game.
though i must confess that i've only played digital devil saga and persona 3 from this franchise. i LOVED persona 3, until the end... then i was pissed.
i'm sure i'll probably play persona 4, though, eventually. |

I most Shin Megami Tensei games- but the Persona series is especially great because of its homoerotic undertones. Yukiko and Chie/ Mitsuru and Yukari as so gay for each other it's crazy. Mitsuru+Yukari make me so happy inside.
