I've played KOTOR (Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic) now... finally... and it was just "OK"... in my very humble opinion. Maybe I'm just too spoiled with the newer games from BioWare, and maybe it would have been a different experience for me had I played it when it first appeared way back then.

I've heard so many people talk about how it changed their gaming lives, and how deeply connected they are to it.

Please tell me if I just missed the point of it, and why you love (loved) it so much. Share your experiences, and don't be shy  Wink

Please also don't let my nonchalance about the game offend you. Thanks

I played KOTOR about 4 years ago on a PC and I remember it pretty well. I enjoyed it and got all the way through to the end. BUT, I'm not really that into RPG fighting and I found the fighting tedious and kind of hard. I ended up using a cheat to make sure I didn't die during the battles and that made it more fun as I didn't have to start over a lot. Ultimately, as you say, it was just okay.

Haven't played the second one and would like to hear from those who did if it was better.

Its the  " Shocked " moment, I think, that make it memorable for most people

That, and it was pretty much stand-alone as a d20 Star Wars RPG game, at the time.  Everything "star wars" before then was action based.  (and since really, because KOTOR 2 was so royally fucked up by Obsidian)

Personally, I like Mass Effect and Jade Empire as RPG games more than KotOR now, as they have so much more depth

Ah well for me its the fact that I'm a big fan of Star Wars and RPGs and it was a well done game. I know its not 'epic' or anything but my geek side still squeals over the opportunity to play as a jedi ^_^

I finished KOTOR and working on KOTOR2. I have no idea what compels me to the game, but I couldn't put it down until I finished. I thought the story line and characters were well created compared to the other games that I played around that time.

KOTOR2 is about the same as KOTOR1. But there's more features when it comes to being evil/good. Everything that you do effects your teammates, which I found awesome.

I didn't "change" my life, but it's definitely a game that I would play over and over again.

The main reason I liked KotOR so much is that I'm a HUGE  Star Wars fan. I grew up watching the original trilogy and waving sticks around while making lightsaber noises with my mouth. It's really nice to play the role of a Jedi.

Now, if you're going to analyze the game more deeply, there are better RPGs in the market. The storyline wasn't so great, the combat system was a bit boring and I found the lack of lightsaber sound effects disturbing. But overall, It's a good game, and it has a great "Star Warsy" feeling to it.

Also, Juhani and Mission are adorable.
