So what comic books, if any, does everyone read? Some random ones that you own? What are some that you just like that are finished? Just any general comic discussion.
(not webcomics)
Here's a list of some of mine.
X-Men (many different series)
Walking Dead
Runaways
Buffy Season 8
Strangers in Paradise
Echo
Watchmen
Spiderman Loves Mary Jane
Fables
Pride Of Baghdad
The Ultimates
Amoung others I just can't think of off the top of my head. |

Oh comic books, they ate my soul a couple of years ago, though lately I haven't had time to read much.
Love Runaways, though I have to say I'm not really enjoying the latest arc that Whedon is writing. Liked it so much better in the first two volumes with BKV. Fables is pretty awesome as well though I haven't kept up past the like fifth trade.
I was happy this year that Y the Last Man finally finished (it was a good run). Other than that I can't say I'm reading much anymore. I used to follow Birds of Prey religiously but after issue 100 I sort of dropped it.
Tranquility was pretty good too, but I think that's on hold. Can't think of anything else I'm really reading at the moment. |

I agree. I love Joss with all my heart and soul, but Vaughn was better for that comic. personally I think Joss's strength is in television.
Fables I haven't really caught up on yet. I'm still having trouble deciding how much I really like it.
I agree I'm glad Y the Last Man ended simple because it would loose appeal if it were dragged out, I just miss it terribly. I love Vaughn's work. I really recommend Pride of Baghdad. Vaughn writes it. I can't remember the artist is but it's wonderful. He did some in The New X-Men too. I'm too lazy to look up his name right now.
I've concidered looking into Birds of Prey. If there's trades out I prolly will. I tend to prefer the trades. I only really buy the issues of things I collect. Which right now is just Buffy Season 8 and Strangers in Paradise. Still trying to find the issues for that. Kinda hard now. I really REALLY recommend that one too. I would have to say it's my favorite. It's in pocket books so it's easy to find it all. (don't let the name fool you, the "pocket books" are THICK!) Terry Moore is fantastic. He does the whole thing, writing and drawing.
I have really looked into Tranquility. I think I've heard of it though. |

Yeah, I think Whedon has some really strong points but Runaways is definitely not one of them.
Fables I liked at first because it was all my favorite fairy tale characters made...awesome. I just loved the whole theme, though it got really weird around the fifth trade. The 1,001 Nights of Winter side story collection though was quite good. And the cover was gorgeous.
Oh, yes, I read Pride of Baghdad. I really do love the majority of Vaughan's stuff. He's amazing and I might even get around to watching Lost one day because of him.
Birds of Prey was really fantastic for a while. Barbara and Dinah had some of the best interaction and it was just fun. I haven't been able to get into it though since Canary left. =/ But definitely check out the arcs by Gail Simone. She's a really fantastic writer and does a lot of great stuff.
Other things by her are Villains United/Secret Six. Each is a six issue mini-series. Villains United takes place during the whole Infinite Crisis arc but if nothing else, you get some canon lesbians and the story continues then in Secret Six. Scandal Savage is pretty awesome if her monologues can get irritating.
I have to be honest, I'm like the only person in the world who couldn't get into Strangers in Paradise. I tried a lot but I don't know, I gave up after the first volume or so. Just not my type of thing. =/ I tried reading some of the more recent stuff but again, I don't know. |

my love for comics tends to wane, more because of lack of money to support it, especially when i try to buy it per issue rather than waiting for trades. series i do like and will eventually catch up on are Fables, Runaways and (Cable &) Deadpool because he's such a brilliant moron.
in general, i find it easier to follow manga than comics because it's a much easier choice to wait for the trade/graphic novel/tankouban rather than to buy the huge Shounen Jump, Nakayoshi, Ribon, etc magazines that contains the 1-3 series i like out of the 10-something they offer.
...but i've been quite lazy about both lately, really. or just too broke. :/ _________________ Currently stuck on:

| I agree. I really don't have the money anymore either. I can still wait for trades for the most part. Sadly I'm catching up to the series I like so it's getting harder to wait for the trades. |

Yeah, it's hard to keep up on comics. I used to read X-men religiously (and still have a huge X-men collection) but right around the time Grant Morrison was finishing up his run I was just getting sick of everything on X-men that wasn't Grant Morrison's run (I believe Chuck Austen and Chris Claremont were on the other X-books at the time-- the former may be the worst comic writer I've ever read, and the latter needs some newer, better tricks, badly.)
Has anyone here read any of Mike Carey's stuff? Not his superhero stuff, but Lucifer, Crossing Midnight, My Faith in Frankie and the like? I'm a big fan, but Carey doesn't seem to get so much attention from comic geeks in general. Not that he has any trouble getting gigs or paying the bills. |

I collect the Anita Blake Series because I am a huge fan of the books. I really wanted to see this series come to life and the best thing out now is the comics. I am hoping it is a bridge to a movie or a tv show, though. Has anyone else read the comic?

I honestly can't say that the name sounds familiar. I'm always interested in the lesser knowns though so I'll probably look into him when I go to the shop today.
Anyone reading Echo? |
