Hey I was just wondering if anyone here played the old LucasArts adventure games like Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit the Road, Full Throttle, and my favorite game of all time: Grim Fandango. I was just curious because Monkey Island was the one that got me hooked on gaming in the first place, well that and Age of Empires II =P

I love adventure games! Its true they don't make them like they used to...

I remember installing games like "indiana Jones and the last crusade" from a handful of floppies, that was probably one of my first adventure games.

I love all those games, and it was probably Monkey Island that got me adventure gaming properly as well. I also loved The Dig and the Indiana Jones games (Fate of Atlantis was good, Last Crusade was frustrating). I still need to complete Zak McKraken and I downladed Sam and Max episode 3 because it was free on steam, so I still have a couple more things to play.

Unfortunately, i've had to start to play games like Call of Duty 4 more, no Lucasarts humour there Sad

You know, I missed most of the LucasArts adventures when they were coming out. I was a Sierra kid-- King's Quest, Space Quest, and Gabriel Knight-- which had their own brand of humor I guess. Those and Mario are probably most to blame for making a gamer of me.

But I did catch one of the Monkey Island games many, many years later, and I liked it a lot. Guess I should try to play more of them, huh?

If you like that style of game, you should check out http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/5days/. It's a free adventure game made with AGS by the guy who does Zero Punctuation on the Escapist (if you're familiar with that phenomenon.) It's short and the graphics & interface recall gaming days of yore, but it's a neat little supernatural mystery with some interesting puzzles.

And it's hard to argue with free.

Well I've looked around and there is a ScummVM project going on to aid you in that but I think right now it's still kinda unstable http://worldsmainorganization.org/scummvm/
it's the Residual file but I'm not sure you want to play Grim Fandango bad enough to risk messing with your computer =( but isn't there some way to install Windows on Macs now? I think it was called Bootcamp or something if you really really want to.... I'd do it actually Grim Fandango is my favorite games of all time, hands down, no game has competed successfully for the title, but That's just me =P

Monkey Island 2 was my favorite too and it was actually the last one I played in the series I;m hoping they return to Adventure games at one point, I miss'em =(

But if any of you guys need one of the games, cahnces are i have it and I could sen dit to you somehow, so don't hesitate to ask I'll find some way to get it to you guys!

I'll have to check it out, thanks!

also has anyone played Hype The Time Quest by any chance? It's an old UbiSoft ca and  it was based on Legos except it was called Playmobil, it was a nice little RPG/, Zelda kinda game. =)

Oh, I loved Gabriel Knight. I was also a Sierra kid.  Smile

One fairly recent adventure game I enjoyed is Indigo Prophecy. I've been checking around for new adventure games, but it's hard to know which ones are actually good and which ones are being hyped. Anyone have recommendations for games that came out in the past year or so?

I enjoyed the gabriel knight 2, I haven't played the other two though. The Discworld games were good too, as were Broken Sword.

I can't think of any good adventure games which have come out recently, I think all the newer ones i've played are just older ones I have discovered, I'll have a think though.

I'm going to check out that link as well, I have absolutely no problem with free games!

I just finished 5 Days a Stranger last night. I'd definitely recommend it, but I'm not sure why. Greater than the sum of its parts.

I loved all the LucasArts point and click adventure games.  My first was Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.  Indeed it was my first PC game.  I played all the rest with favs being Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and Full Throttle.

Also enjoyed Loom which I thought was a delightful adventure game also made by LucasArts (I think before they were called LucasArts).  Anyone else remember that one?
