So, im going to be running a light campaign soon with my group & am looking to see if i can find an alternate system to run. I basicly don't want a level based game. I am familiar with, and had turned the idea over in my head of using L5R rules for a different setting.
Anyone have any suggestions? |

| You should look into Cthulhutech, its basically Evangelion+Cthulhu+Guyver+Robotech. Its really good. |

Shadowrun is definitely a lot of fun. I would recommend the 3rd edition. Its not d20 based. I really like the game system, though it can have a high 'mortality rate' until you get used to it. I'd also recommend reading one or two of the novels to get a feel for the world.
I also like the old WEG Star Wars system although it seemed like in that, skills didn't matter so much because there was no penalty for reverting to your attribute. We made a house rule about that. Its a pretty good game system, though. d6 based.
(SR has penalties for reverting to attributes, so skills are very important)

| I used to like to play Legend of the Five Rings (the pen and paper RPG for purposes here). It's kind of sort of like Jade Empire. |

Hmm, only level-less games I ever played were:-
Runequest, which was quite nice and all, but a person can get a little bogged down in tables and such sometimes.
Then there was the Hero system, which was quite nice and quite freeform almost. with not many limits imposed on character creation, so players can create a character they like in not much time. It's all points based too, so it's balanced.
There were the Werewolf vampire games, and I'd include Feng Shui in this.. which I found to drag by, and have so little structure as to loose the plot on a regular basis, or have players grandstanding as if they were the only epic storyteller in the world, and they'd taught that Shakespeare dude a thing or two. Ugh.
I would recommend The Hero System personally. I quite liked it. _________________

I tolerate it because of the freedom in character design, but have a few issues with it.
Sadly, it looks like I'm going to be going on a gaming dry spell because I'm so tired of fantasy D&D that I will not play it anymore, and no one around here will play anything *but*. |
