OMG! I think I have just fallen off my chair!! How can you not like Carmen. You HAVE to explain this to me... she is adorable... gorgeous, sexy and hot hot hot! Tell me what you don't like about her.

Carmen is completely uninteresting to me as a character. Her personality is kind of bland. She's conventionally attractive, but I don't find her particularly attractive, personally. As oliemoon said, she had absolutely no chemistry with Shane, and I'm not even sure why Shane went for Carmen, except for the fact that Shane goes for almost anyone.

I disliked Papi, I find her public persona repulsive. However I will admit that she has some depth, because when she isn't acting like an idiot and is actually herself, she seems to be a sweet person.

I liked Lara and Dana. They were good together.

Dana is my favourite character. I also like Alice, though I didn't like how obsessive she got when she was with Dana, but her neurotic tendencies make her an interesting character.

Gahh, Uh Huh Her is close to you and you're not sure if you're going! Uhhhh, not fair!! I wish they'd come to the East Coast. I am in LOVE with her band. I bought the album off of iTunes (something I never do), and listen to it constantly. They're really really good!

Oh trust me, I REALLY want to go. From what I heard on their myspace page, I really dig it. I'm kinda in need of a new band to like. I've been too googly eyed over Paramore/Hayley lately. XD

Totally agree with you here. Lara and Dana were such a cute couple, I was devastated to see how things ended with them to be honest. Lara was such a sweet sweet character. I was pretty gutted she just disappeared after sleeping with Alice..

Oh about Papi.. can't stand her.

Yes, I really liked Dana too. She seemed so...real. Like, she wasn't perfect, she was kinda clumsy and...you know, she just seemed like a real person. I thought that was cool. I really liked her and Alice together.

Carmen is okay. I thought she was pretty, but...I dunno. She was just okay. I liked that she was a dj though. That's cool.

I don't really like Tasha too much either. She was so grumpy and defensive when she first met everyone. Although I haven't finished the 4th season yet (just one or two episodes left), so I don't know if she changes her attitude or not.

I like Helena. I don't really find her that attractive (I think she's pretty, don't get me wrong), but there's just something about her that I like. I didn't at first, especially when she was with Tina (I wanted Tina and Bette to be together so badly). But now that she's 'poor', I think she's really interesting. It was pretty funny when she was just kinda sitting around Alice's house not knowing what to do, or how to do anything.

I'm so-so with Tina right now. I hated her when she went 'straight' and was with that guy, but now I'm just kinda...meh.

I liked Bette a lot in the beginning, but now I'm not so sure either. I don't really care for her with Jodi. I don't like that Jodi says she can't be monogamous. That would drive me crazy.

I think I kind of like Jenny, in some odd way. I just kind of marvel at how horrible she can be. Like when she went after 'the vagina wigs' girlfriend. I was just like...wow. How can she do that and live with herself?

Of course none of these people are real, but...who cares! They seem real! haha

Me three. I really like Lara, and as much as I hated how much Lara/Dana destroyed Alice, I still can't hold it against Lara because she was just too darn likable. She was even sweet with Alice while having emotionally fucked up sex with her. And nice while Alice was being an obsessive-abusive ex. She had class.

Though it was painful to watch Alice fall apart after Dana broke up with her, she's definitely my favorite character. The actress has brilliant comedic timing and they just give Alice such great lines. "I'm a little low on the sperm tonight. A little low on the sperm."

Dana was totes adorable, and her death was so very, very wrong. I don't really understand why the show wanted to throw away one of their best. It makes no sense.

I'm really not a fan of Bette or Tina. Bette is controlling and emotionally abusive, and Tina's personality keeps changing to fit the writer's purposes. She was okay in Season One, but quickly degenerated in Season Two, IMO, and hasn't picked up since. I liked the changes to Helena's character in Season Three, though they never really bothered to explain where, how or when Helena managed to get a soul. I reserve the right to adjust my opinions on all of these characters (except Bette--she's not so bad now, but even if Tina forgave her for the cheating, I won't) however, as I have yet to watch Season Four.

I wish the show would feature some positive portrayals of poly people, instead if just making it seem like they're all manipulative and selfish, incapable of real love until they just meet the "right person."

I love the character of Alice...I agree with the comment about her comedic timing and great lines...one of my favorites "this coffee tastes like poopie sh**".

As for the original topic on the presence of Betty...I think it is because Ilene Chaiken doesn't really care about what the fans think...it's all about what she wants...I used to get all wrapped up in the complete 180's the characters would seem to have...then I heard Ilene in an interview talking about how she treats each season like it's a new show...now the lack of consistent character development makes complete sense...I also recall her stating she most closely relates personally to the character of Jenny...that should explain to us pretty much everything we need to know...

I think Max is cool. I don't find him attractive though... (or her, before he changed...slightly confusing). I didn't like how he got all angry and mean to Jenny when he was on the steroids. That made me dislike him for a while, but now he's nice.

I feel for Max when people treat him badly though. Like at his work, and when his mom died...it was so sad!! I think that it's hard being a lesbian, but I can't imagine how hard it is for someone who's going through the same thing Max is.

agreed!

how about some Linkin Park, or Funeral For A Friend, or Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (this band has a GREAT anti-abuse-against-women tune called 'Face Down' - very, very empowering to anyone who has suffered from, experienced, this abuse)... could it be the L Word is discriminating? after all these great bands i've just mentioned are all males. is L Word trying to feature grrl bands? if so, why focus on just one? there are many classic and upcoming grrl, and women, powered bands out there. why does it always have to be Betty? are they stockholders? does Betty have the L Word founders by the short-n-curlies?
